1:08 Whoa!! That final line changes the ENTIRE MEANING of his question. Put simply, he effectively said "Oh. No wonder I lost." Japanese is a very contextual language. This line is specifically telling us that he KNEW about the original legendary Star Fox team, and that him losing to them "makes sense."

In the early summer of ‘97 my family traveled to Japan for a few weeks, and my sister and I each got to choose one destination for our itinerary. Of course, I chose Nintendo headquarters since we’d be in Kyoto at a certain point. It was a huge thrill to brag to my nerdy friends back home how I got to play the new Star Fox game a few weeks/months before it was released here in the ‘States. The demo they had on the sales floor was of the first level, and I remember being very lost as to what was going on, except it seemed to loosely match the SNES story. The voice acting was memorably over-the-top, and this was a great reminder of that. I also remember thinking how cool the rumble pack was (first time I used it, I think) It was a great trip, needless to say🤘🏻 🎮

I think in general JP VA tried to make the player feel seriousness of the story, people getting killed for example, it felt more realistic acting in Japanese standard. There are a lot of well known Japanese anime voice actors in SF64 which is what loans it that distinctive "scifi anime" feel. Wolf's actor Hisao Egawa would go on to voice Arthur Goodman in Gundam 00 and Hanza Nukui in Bleach; Katt's actress voiced Kei from Dirty Pair one time in Flight 005 Conspiracy film; Andrew's actor Daisuke Sakaguchi played fucking Uso from Gundam Victory; Pigma was voiced by the legendary late great Daisuke Gori, known for Dozle Zabi in the original Gundam, Mr. Satan in Dragonball Z, Uighur from Fist of the North Star, and Heihachi Edajima in Sakigake!! Reminds me of how Japanese players prefer the English dub of Kingdom Hearts. It’s part of why the Final Mix versions were originally made: not just for new content, but to give Japanese players an English version with Japanese subtitles.

Remember when you were young, and everything wasn't on the internet day 1? The first time I fought Andross 2 and he turned into brain it blew my effing mind, and having the escape run, oh man, it reminded my tiny childlike self of some good old Return of the Jedi and shadows of the Empire. Man I love this game so much. I wish I could go back and forget it all and experience it all over again. I wonder if kids today would dig starfox 64 as much as we did.... This was without a doubt a console seller, my first time playing the N64 it was at Kiosk demo with star fox, and I still remember the Toys R Us and give thanks my grandma Ge for taking me. She kept up with the kids' hobbies, and she would talk to the clerks and catch the latest gaming and beanie baby or pokemon buzz. Ge actually was the one that insisted I play this Zelda (wtf is that?!?) game Ocarina of Time that became one of my favorites of all time. She even asked if I wanted it, and little me who is hardly reading yet said, "naaaah, that's okay :)" But she got it for me anyway because she was told it was the most anticipated game of all time. It blows me away the length she would go through to keep up with the cutting edge of our hobbies. Really love her for doing that all those years ago🥲🥲🥲😊😊😊

Jesus Christ, Andross’ seiyuu is like… actually fucking nightmare fuel. I would’ve been absolutely horrified by that if I played that as a kid lmao Despite growing up with the English versions, Fox and Falco’s seiyuu also seem far more fitting than the English VAs I do wonder if the soundbyte at the start of each level is the same though, or if it says ‘Ganbare!’ Or something. Still so iconic either way haha *G O O D L U C K*

Andross improves so much in Japanese. The filter on his voice makes it sound like he's coming from everywhere, and the cold vibe with which he self-destructs is incredible acting for an N64 game.

The: "So Andross, you show your true form!" Doesn't do the justice to the: SoreGaKisamaNoShoutaiKa?... Andross! I guess adding the "Andross" at the end of the scentence gives it more... I wanna say punch. "Kisama" is a disrestectful form of "you" so I guess, adding the "you" at the beggining of the scentence (in english) can be interpreted as "you (bastard)" This is how I would have done it: You, ...finally show your true form ! ...Andross! (English is my second language and Jap is my third so, not 100% sure if it will sound "right")

English version: Fairly lighthearted and Hammy. Japanese Version: Pretty much Mobile Suit Gundam. Seriously, We're missing "The Red Comet of Loum" for some of the scenes. I guess its due to the Voice Acting. Fox in the Japanese Version at the end clearly sounds like he's withholding tears.
