You've inspired me to play Lylat Wars 64 again! I haven't played it since I was very young, and even then I definitely wasn't at this level of proficiency. My partner and I are now competing with each other for the highest score runs and this video is a great little tutorial to help us! I loved watching this series of yours - I can tell you genuinely adore this game and it's great to watch you play something you enjoy~

At 41:00, Slippy is being chased by the butterfly shaped enemy fighter, and must save him from retiring for the remaining of the game, making the last level chaotic. So save Slippy at all costs from that enemy, even if Slippy's health meter is about half full, and a chance to get a medal. When attempting saving Slippy by shooting down Andrew, and instead of Andrew quoted, "Ahhh!", Falco accidentally fly to me and Falco quoted, "Get out of my way!", even if Falco got a full health on his health meter, but it stings for both Fox and Falco, in Venom 2 in the All-range mode.

Man I feel so inadequate now. As a kid, my highest score in SF64 was around 1900, and I thought I was an amazing player lol. Me and a friend of mine at the time were always competing for better scores and we'd share tips and work together to optimize our runs. We thought the perfect path was Corneria -> Meteo -> Katina -> Sector X -> Macbeth -> Area 6 -> Venom.

It pretty much is still the perfect path if tricks aren't used to score bonus hits.

@@GoodOldDaysGaming Is it a shame that, you cant HS run it without the stupid green ball? the best thing about the game was the crazy hammering of the blue laser, it felt so good. So im kind of put off doing a hs run now if the whole time you have to charge up etc....thoughts?

@@jacko2059 I think the charge shots feel great once you get the hang of them but it's a little awkward timing and aiming them properly at first.

Hey Bill, look how long it’s been since you played this game and look you were just a few enemies shy of your high score, you play this for a few more days I’m sure you’ll master your highest score. Also look how long speed runners spend playing the game. I remember I thought I was good at Halo CE till I saw Garish Goblin do speed runs, that dude is done with 3 maps in the same amount of time to accomplish one map. I remember challenging myself to get a lot of points in this game as a kid. My route was always Corneria>Meteo>Katina>Sector X>Macbeth>Area 6>>Venom. I practiced day and night up until my early 20s just so i can obtain at least 1733 hits. If i remember correctly my PB was 2023 hits on expert and that was on the 3DS remake. I even managed to earned all the medals on both expert and normal modes just so i can unlock the true potential of this game and play it freely. I started to get worse as I grew up in my 20s as I was pushing myself too seriously. That's why nowadays I play the red line route a bit casually and still end up beating the game in under 45 minutes without cutscene skips.

if you're accurate enough, you can explode the crashing starwolf ships (when they talk after you take them down) with a torpedo for an extra H+1. i remember doing it always when i was a kid but damm my highest was arround 1950. you've got mad skills dude.

Apparently, Star Fox 64 has a true path from Corneria to Venom, it's Meteo, Fortuna, Solar, Macbeth, Area 6.

My highest is close to 2200 a tip i reccomend is corneria-meteo-katina-sector x-macbeth-area 6-venom is better than your current route unless you can fully take advantage of the aquas techs to get close to 300 I have a similar aquas score to you and choose this route instead

Zoness was my favourite level as a kid. But I couldn't beat aquas so my brother was constantly having to play the first 3 levels for me to keep replaying it 🤣 nor could I beat area 6 🙄🤣

My highest score on Venom 1, via Bolse on the easy path is 201 points and barely get a medal. Venom 1 on the easy path and Venom 2 on the hard path does count as one medal, but both. The maximum points for Venom 2 is 227 points. Destroying all 4 Star Wolf members gives you 204 points before the final showdown with Andross which is 23 points. 204+23=227 and a medal if Peppy, Slippy, and Falco must be alive at the end of this level in order to get a medal, so save them at all costs.

Wrong, my PB for Venom Hard is 311. Venom Hard is one of 2 levels that has 999 as Max Score.

There's a glitch in the stage menu where if you beat Aquas you can't retry it. You'll just be forced to go to Zoness as soon as you press A

Those who have super high scores are the people who play every single day for years. At first, maybe they weren't so good. You haven't reached your potential- not even close. Keep working on it, and you'll improve. No need to beat yourself up for not becoming a GOAT a few days after picking up a game you love. Imagine if those guys had done that! It'd cheapen the game if you could become a high score runner in like a week. Who'd wanna play and master an insanely easy game? So rejoice and practice :D

I never learned the hard path. Just not for me. My best was 2240 with Co-Me-Ka-SX-Ma-A6-Ve with my console locking the score at 511.

I play this on my Nintendo switch im stuck with the version that your score won't go past 511 there probably not on way to get the version on the switch that doesn't have that

Don't be so hard on yourself. If you use score running tactics to get a higher score, you're a score runner. You don't have to be the best. I'm not much better, my high score is 2244. I use a different route though, I go Corneria, Meteo, Katina, Sector X, Macbeth, Area 6, then Venom. I know it's not technically as good, I'm just better at that route. Also, you don't have to stop yourself from going past 511 with the type of cart you have. It'll still show your route/score at the name input screen, before you input it. After that, yeah it deducts points. But don't let that stop you from doing your best!

Congratulations man! I just checked out Corneria in the WR video (I'll have to watch the rest later), but your skill is nuts. My wrists are pretty shot and I don't think I have it in me to be a top tier score or speed runner in really any game, so I'm not really trying for anything anymore besides casual replaying of games. I doubt I could even beat my best. But it's awesome all the groupings and splash damage that are still being found, and it looks so good when a stage is done near flawlessly.

I'm confused. I just loaded up my N64 and my top 8 scores are all 3577. Was I just a beast as a child not paying attention to score, yet getting 511 on every level? Or am I missing something?

The gameshark code "tons of hits" gives you 511 on every level if you press the GS button on the Gameshark device. I used it too, but then deleted those old saves.
