Star Fox Event Horizon - Intro Narration

Merry Christmas everyone, I didn't have a time to put together trailers for the new releases of Star Fox or Hyrule Conquest by Christmas, so I just uploaded the opening cinematic from Event Horizon. One of the things I love about this cutscene is not only that we actually see Andross BEFORE he became a floating head with hands, but we actually get a legitimate motivation behind his actions. He wanted to save his people, but bureaucracy and war profiteering prevented him from doing so.

I agree, I like that Andross wanted to save his planet from destruction by using his knowledge and expertise as a scientist to make a terraforming device that is classified. I personally thought, "A terraforming device to save his homeworld? Not a bad idea." Really changed the character quite a bit, or added onto it I should say.

More like Pepper was right to fear the use of Andross' technology as a weapon of mass destruction-which Andross did employ-but he was wrong about how to act on that fear. I see this as an expansion of the canon lore-which states that Andross was banished to Venom for experiments gone horribly wrong-more than anything else.

Yes! This is what a new Star Fox game should be! If they’re gonna keep remaking the original Star Fox, they should add more expansive lore to the story than just little bits of upgraded gameplay and graphics.

what a unique spin on the Star Fox story. i can get why Corneria was so apprehensive about Andross invention. on one hand, the AORRA can help terraform planets with inhospitable enviroments into worlds suitable for colonization. however in Corneria's eyes, while built for good intentions, such a device can be weaponized to render habitable planets lifeless. and it pretty much snowballed into something worst. Andross was going to great lengths to save his world and he got punished for it, no wonder he wants revenge.

While I question whether Pepper would have been one of the ones to say No to this Andross’ invention, this would’ve been a much better “secret technology” than Star Fox Zero’s wormhole teleportation. (Seriously, why was Pepper in Zero so keen on exiling Andross over teleporters?)

I find sympathetic villains more interesting anyway. I’m doing a n original Star Fox fan fiction events after the aparoids and one of my favorite villains I’ve done thus far is a mercenary working for the main big bad in the first part of the story. He’s a human from another galaxy altogether who came to Lylat after leaving a group of dangerous and violent assassins due to his conflicting with their merciless ways. Once in Lylat he allows himself more freedom to exhibit morally ambiguous ways and takes jobs irrelevant to whose side they are on. The kid works now with the main villain Icepick, a polar bear who started off as a common mob boss and gained a considerable force in Lylat after the aparoids. The boy can’t stand his thugs and hired goons as most are abhorrent gangsters, hired mercenaries or Andross leftovers. The only one he truly admires is a man named Wolf O’Donnell who Icepick hired to capture Fox Mccloud the greatest obstacle in gaining control over Lylat. His admiration turns to affection and borderline obsession after Wolf dismisses and ignores him and when Wolf finally does capture Fox off guard, the kid makes his move and blatantly turns against Icepick leg sweeping O’Donnell and Icepick in the hopes of gaining Wolf’s respect. In order to keep Fox safe the kid takes him through his galaxy and plots to have Corneria fake his return so that he may bring him back under the villains nose knowing full well they would prowl the Lylat galaxy until they got Fox back. With Fox’s Arwing having been destroyed in the ambush he was captured in and the kid having only his (albeit very powerful but still one ship against an army) Stinger, he decides faking Fox’s return and bringing him home at a later date after going through his galaxy and around Icepick’s known affiliates he can fly fox back home safely. In that time he becomes closer to Fox after having a run in with his former associates known as the syndicate he begins projecting his feelings for Wolf onto Fox after the two have been sharing personal information on things like Fox’s father, his releasing Krystal in order to protect her and having lost contact, as well as the boys struggles with his family having been killed by Cornerian forces after being misled into thinking his colony was harboring terrorist and his father sending him away after finding out his bisexual tendencies. His feelings grow and he begins to see Wolf would never care for him the way Fox does and unfortunately dampens their friendship by making a move on Fox after trying to convince him to run away from everything with him and leave his problems in Lylat behind for a life of freedom. After seeing Corneria isn’t as perfect as he intially thought and having his morals questions by the kids care free ideology’s and lifestyle he considers the offer to leave with him and this causes discomfort between the two especially as Fox initially reciprocated the romantic feelings but couldn’t follow through after memories of Krystal resurfaced and his fear of disappointing his own father. This leads them to reconcile and finally bring Fox back. Fox offers the human a chance to join Star Dox and he declines due to not wanting to be tied down to anyone else’s rules or standards enjoying the freedom solitude brought. Fox regrets this and tells him the offer will always stand and the kid briefly kisses him goodbye and tells him so does his offer. It isn’t until the kid is back in space do the readers realize he is scornful of the rejection and it has caused him to become even more mentally unstable than he was previously. Star Wolf attempts to capture him and he goes willingly revealing that he wants to speak with the furious Icepick and reveals that not only has he betrayed Fox by leaving a bug that uses echo location to show the entirety of the Great Fox and Cornelian Armies weak points and blueprints, but he also uploaded a virus into both in order to shut down all security and protective forces. He falls back down the rut of falling for Wolf who now intends to use him against Fox and he mistakes this for admiration cussing him to feel affections for Wolf again.

Very interesting lore bits for your version of the SF lore. Pepper leading a junta coup, essentially taking over, Andross getting exiled for creating a process that could save lives instead of just weapons. Quite interesting twist.

The intro cutscene gives me movie vibes. Love the updated models and especially how this little scene gives more depth to the tension between Andross and Pepper. 😉 Always interesting to wonder what went thru Andross' mind during this rough time. The scientist had good intentions, but his ideas were considered far too outrageous for Pepper. And as a result, we have the Andross we are used to seeing...the ape who lost all sanity to even risk his own life conducting terrifying experiments on himself. Man, its easy to feel bad for him when one thinks about his past. Ambition has the tendency to blind even the most pure hearted soul.

I really enjoy how the more accurate character and ship models were used here. Wow! Some of them look to be from Zero, like Peppy, Andross, and some of the ships and craft. Amazing work soo far and as a die hard Star Fox fan since the mid 90s, I wish you the best on this project and cant wait to play the finished game!

Actually, Andross originated from Corneria rather than Venom at least according to official sources. But I love the direction that you took with this project so much that this should be enough to inspire Nintendo to make another Star Fox; one that follows along the likes of Assault!

Well, Starfox got rebootet like 2 Times, once they planed a sequel of the Original Starfox on the SNES (which kinda got released a while ago) but then the N64 came and they rebooted the story and then they did it again on the Wii U with Starfox Zero. It wouldnt suprise me if thex Reboot it again and make it like this.

Though I appreciate Andross getting a sympathetic background, I don't appreciate that it basically colors the Lylat government as the original enemies. I mean, seeking vengeance is understandable, but the way it's shown here makes it seem like the lylat government tried to stop him from saving a dying world. I do like the revenge route itself, but it seems like the lylat government were the instigators. Now, Andross striking the first blow to recover his research that was confiscated to begin his work to save a planet? That would be more fitting of the scenario shown in the games of the lylat government being the good guys while still having Andross be sympathetic. But, the way it is here just makes it seem as if the Lylat government were totalitarians, which doesn't seem to fit the good natured loyalty that seems to be on display in the games. Won't deny that I do love the idea for Andross's origins for both the first and second wars though. Just that it seems off in how it colors the Lylat government based on what is known of it. Though, as always, I loved the animation and voice acting. Your works are always breathtaking.

I mean even canonically Corneria is portrayed as a totalitarian military dictatorship run by a general. I don't think it was entirely unreasonable for the General to lead a military attack against a group of rogue secessionists that could potentially use Andross' atmosphere altering device as a planet-killing weapon. Corneria banned the use of the technology and didn't even arrest Andross. It's a really sticky situation morally, for sure, but I don't see Corneria just sitting by letting potential enemies get their hands on weapons of mass destruction.

@@UndyingNephalim I did not know those facts. I was just basing it off of what I knew from the games. And it seemed to not make it clear enough to understand the depths of that issue. I mean, now that you said it was the potential of a planet killing weapon, it makes more sense. But, just the way it was portrayed here just made them seem more the enemies at first with Andross merely striking back. I mean, it makes sense for his desires for both the first and second wars. It just felt off on that one single aspect. The rest of the video was amazing.

My only complaint was the way the cornerian government was colored, since it didn't seem to match up with what I knew of the games. But, at the same time, I never did delve into the deeper details about the history of the franchise, so there were details I was unaware of.

Corneria is not shown to be a military dictatorship in the games, I don't think it is ever shown what is their government. General Pepper is the leader of the army, but it is not said that he is also the governor. It's ok to give Andross a sympathetic background, even the games have some hint of that, and it's perfectly understandable that Corneria has some skeletons in the closet and some unsavory characters (i.e. Colonel Shears) while Venom has some nobler figures to add shades of grey to the conflict. That said, it is also explicitly shown that Andross in the games also became pretty much a self entilted madman conducting very dangerous experiments with little care and quite of a god complex, and then became basically Hitler. In the original comics he also tried to kill James McCloud with a car bombing in order to steal away his wife Vixy, getting her killed when she took the car instead of her husband. I don't think that the fact of Andross being an evil asshole should be changed too much. Sometimes it's not wrong to have a clear bad guy, and you can have a very much evil villain without making them one dimensional.

Vocal performance, storytelling, the complete revamp and new motivation of Andross: I love just about all of what this trailer has! An amazing job, I gotta say! Though, one minor detail that's been bugging me: The star Lylat, after which the system is named, is supposed to be closer to Venom than to Corneria, according to the original works. Was this done deliberately and if so, I wonder why? Also, placed further down to avoid spoilers for anyone reading: In particular, I like how Andross and Pepper are portrayed here, with Pepper being stated to have staged an usurpation. Really makes Andross' call to Fox in the later cutscene to be seen in a whole different light. For goodness sake, this minor detail even makes me somewhat sympathetic for Shears after the fact! That is how storytelling goes right and I applaud you for it!

Star Fox was one of my favorites franchise from Nintendo, it could be a golden opportunity for them to try something new instead of just giving them another game, why not give them their own show or maybe new comics, they could try to make it a little bit like Sonic the hedgehog of expanding their franchise of having more new characters, new worlds to explore, improving their characters designs, personality, give them their own origins, as well as giving them character development as the story goes on, and rewrite the story like in Star Fox Adventures. I wouldn't make Krystal be a damsel in distress when she was trapped in a magic crystal until Fox saves her at the end of the game, I was thinking to make her the main character in the story when she meets Fox for the first time, but she didn't like him at first because he was a stranger on her second home planet and tried to kill him because of misunderstanding, then they work things out, and decided to work together to accomplish their goals while also getting to know each other more. Star Fox is basically a mash-up of every known Sci-Fi film and shows that's ever been made, why can Nintendo expand on their franchise instead of focusing on Mario, Link, Pokemon, and Smash Bros out of every other franchise Nintendo has created over the years?

Cause they have tried that. Was Star Fox for SNES, Star Fox 64, Star Fox Adventures, Star Fox Assualt then what I call the worse Star Fox Command. 64-Assault expanded on it but after 64 people complained about it changing but also same people complained about it staring the same. I do like the Lylat Wars and this twist on it. Also enjoyed the sequels to 64. I do wonder if it will make a come back after Starlink.

I love all the little nods to the game this mod is based on (FreeSpace 2/Open), using the same font, the map of Lylat reminds me of the map of jump nodes in the FreeSpace galaxy and I can't help but feel like Andross's commander outfit was inspired by Admiral Bosch

The narrator did his best to recreate a seasoned general persona. But it's very evident the guy voicing it is in is late twenties if not very early thirties. I would recommend picking up a voice actor in his 50's to successfully make that connection. That being said, the current voice actor you having doing this, is still really talented.

Really liking this version of Star Fox. This makes me wonder about more of the Background lore. More specifically the Cerinians, the Krazoa, and the Aparoids. It seems to me that in this game, the Krazoa had involvement all across Lylat, not just Sauria and Cerinia. The Cerinians seem to revere the Krazoa more so than the rest of Lylat. What happened to their world, I can only assume Andross had something to do with it. The Aparoids are a whole other mystery. I wonder, how could they survive the end of Assault if their Queen, who is the center of their Hivemind, was effectively deleted by the Apoptosis program?

I first discovered event horizon back in 2018 or 2019, and i only read about it. I didnt wanna watch any thing because i knew it'd be awhile before anything was playable. Now that ive downloaded and played it, I'm confident in saying that this is by far the best take on Star Fox. Star Fox has been rebooted multiple time and at this point its canon is as consistent as comics, so I'm pleased to see a take that not only consolidates elements from the various versions of the continuity, but adds new ideas in. This is by far my favorite take on Andross.

I mean, them cancelling Andross' invention makes sense. It is WAY too easy to set that thing into "Wumbo Mode" point it at planets and destroy them. Star Fox doesn't have much for Planet Buster super weapons... and people being all, "uh... no... let's not, please?" makes 100% sense And Andross being a highly intelligent dumbass does fit a lot of his characterisation. Like... putting a lot of thought into a bad idea _IS_ a form of being intelligent just as much as it is a form of being stupid
