The tale of the translation for this game was absolutely nuts, too. Game got translated into English, but the person who did so refused to release the translation unless he was paid for it. Meanwhile someone else translated it into French, which was freely available for _years._ Suddenly and only a few years ago, an English translation popped-up online and spread like wildfire. No idea if it's the original and some kind Anon paid the price then told the "rights holder" (ha-hork) to f-off and spread it online, or if someone else translated the game into English on the sly (as others had started doing so but the original money-monger would bully then into stopping). Yeesh. At least, that's how I THINK it all went down it was weird & wild...

The English translation appeared on the Internet when someone sold cartridges with this translation. it was the original, you can see the signing at the bottom of the file. Nobody bully to the other translators, it's just that this specific game is complex, even the developers didn't want to translate it. 1547 maps with text and a lot of menus, is tiring.

This is to the GBC what Trials of Mana is to the SNES, a masterpiece swansong for pushing the system to the max but just a little to late. Im 8 hours in and all i can think about is how much this wouldve blown my mind as a ten year old

I just started playing this, and it surprised me with how high quality it is. Despite a relatively simple combat system, the rest of the game is full of polish and quality of life that puts a lot of other RPGs past and present to shame. As an RPG fan (and even moreso a GameBoy fan), this is one is a must play imo.

I put it into the same category as Tales of Phantasia Nakiri Dungeon and Lufia The Legend Returns games that suffered from being on the Game Boy Color and were clearly too ambitious for the hardware.

Very true, The Legend Returns is pointed to as some people's favorite Lufia but man...the hardware limitations.

I just play the translated rom on my GBA micro it is so cool. A whole RPG in 8 bit! I love the smallest pixel font size thats even possible :)

So I discovered this race in Star Ocean called "Blue Dolphin" from looking at the Jumpchain document for it. From the pictures on the Star Ocean wiki they're pretty cute. But when I searched "Star Ocean Blue Dolphin" I saw results for this game instead. And this video is the first video that appeared on the search results. So... why does it have a bad reputation? I've not really heard of this game before. Also apparently "the setting of Star Ocean is that of a giant VRMMO that would dwarf SAO several times over." Is that true in the slightest? It didn't look like that from what I know of the series - is that supposed to be a twist?

star ocean 1 = great. the remake first departure r = significant upgrade. star ocean 2 = great. the remake second story r = significant upgrade. star ocean blue sphere = great. if a remake was done with the upgrades the second story r got, perhaps as a dlc release to second story r. oh my lord. take my money. star ocean (3)til the end of time = great except for the ending. star ocean (4)the last hope = meh star ocean (5)integrity and faithlessness = average all around and will remind you of final fantasy 12 and wild arms 3. star ocean (6) the divine force = jury's out. i can't decide yet. i go back and forth. a lot of good. a lot of meh.

the original blue sphere was amazing and i will hear no slander against it. star ocean blue sphere, using the technology from second story r would be amazing. they could release blue sphere as a DLC to second story r to keep the fanbase engaged and bring in new people.

20+ hours GBC RPG unheard of before? Try Dragon Warrior 3. Certainly takes 20+ hours of grinding for the monster medals to fully unlock the post-game Ice Cave & defeating GranDragon & getting the Rubiss Sword.

Game looks fine for the platform and why would you try to do direct comparisons to other games in the series on superior hardware? why stop there? how about Pong vs The Last of Us, Super Mario Bros vs Super Mario Odyssey, Zelda 1 vs Tears of the Kingdom, or Final Fantasy 1 vs Final Fantasy 16? I can keep going if you need more genius video ideas.
