literally you can replay the first star ocean remake on the switch Its called First departure R And literally nothing in the first game is connected outside Claude being the son of a character in the first game but even that means nothing to the plot like they could change it and nothing changes storywise.

I remember the original Star Ocean Second Story being fairly challenging on Galaxy difficulty back when I originally played it. I wonder if they toned it down a bit. I'm currently in the middle of playing on Universe difficulty and it has definitely not a cakewalk.

I think because of the updates to the systems, and the ability to basically farm SP through jobs, it just has the potential to cap/peak above the difficulty would want? If that makes sense.

Cool review. I bought this game hoping this would finally be the one to get me into star ocean and though I love the overall aesthetic of the game and the beautiful hand drawn illustrations I simply cannot get behind the combat. I just dont like this kind of combat at all and find it awful. Wish it was turn based like octopath or bravelt default or persona or whatever. Could only stick it for about 7 hours and then dropped it. To be fair I bounced off a bunch of tales of games combat too and I did get those same tales vibes from the trailers but hoped this would be different. Not for me but glad so many love this game and I am happy to support this kinda remake so dont regret buying it. I am gonna jump into rise of the third power instead. :D

I will be honest I am not usually a Action RPG fan either, I much prefer turn based or tactics styles (The game I am keeping my eyes glued to is Unicorn Overlord! I already have the collectors edition pre-ordered! And as I said with the top 7 SRPGS I rarely, if ever preorder anything! )

@@SwitchScheme yes! same. Loved tactics ogre reoborn, looking forward to the upcoming FF tactics remaster (hopefully) and I am also excited for unicorn overlord (despite the awful name lol)

Understandable. I generally prefer turn based as well but at the same time get tired of it when every single JRPG is turn based. This is a nice change of pace, and for me came just at the right time after sinking 130 hours into Octopath Traveler 2. Beat it right before picking this up and was honestly incredibly bored with the combat for the last 10-12 hours or so, to the point where i was running from most fights and had the battle speed on X2 just so u could finally finish the game. The combat here can be pretty tactical too if you want it to be. Play more as the mages, have at least 2 in your party all the time, switch between them, and cast from your full collection of spells using the in-battle menu. Feels a bit closer to turn based doing that.

No kidding! Classics just have a way, remake or not we love em (but I don’t love paying 60$ for a port of a game 20+ years old, so thankfully this game isn’t just that 😂)

5:15 Choosing English audio was your first mistake. Just stick with Japanese. Sounds 10 times better.

You're not kidding!~ It was so hit or miss, the best part of listening to a games audio in another language... you have NO CLUE if its a bad line read.. at least I don't haha

@@SwitchScheme You can still tell when they’re actually putting emotion or effort into their lines. You don’t necessarily have to understand the language to hear that. But yes it’s definitely much less grating on the ears. Star Ocean is kinda infamous for really bad English dubbing. It’s a series staple at this point lol
