I've loved star sapphires since my father gave my mother one as a give when I was about 10 years old (too many years ago for me to admit). I was SO excited when I discovered that they can now be synthesized and bought inexpensively. I bought my wife a sterling silver setting and stone for under $25, and she loves it. I'm so glad these beautiful stones are getting some KZbin love now.

My new favorite thing is definitely this color change garnet gemstone I got recently. It turns green, blue, and purple under certain lights. Maybe more.

I remember getting a star amethyst ring for my 7th birthday (I don’t know why my parents gave a really expensive ring to a 7 year old but whatever) it was a gold ring with an oval star amethyst in the middle with two smaller diamonds on the sides of it in a twisting manner and I absolutely LOVED it and still do(amethyst is my birth stone so that was a cool part about it too). My grandparents are gemologists so I learned a lot about gemstones and probably got my fascination with gemstones from them. This video was really cool to watch and I learned quite a bit from watching it, so thank you and have a nice day.

Hi, so happy to have found this channel. Can you please let me know if the structure of a natural blue sapphire differs from a lab created one? Also, have you heard of Indraneel( a specific type of blue sapphire). Thanks in advance.
@gems3 жыл бұрын
Both natural and lab created sapphire have the same atomic structure and properties as far as refractive index, density and hardness etc. are concerned. Color will be dependant on the trace elements use to color the lab created stone. The outer structure or habit will be quite different. For instance, many blue sapphires can occur as a bipyramidal hexagonal barrel shaped prism. Lab created flame fusion sapphire will be formed as a cylindrical boule, almost a teardrop shape. Though I have not heard of Indraneel before, I know neelam is the Hindi word for sapphire and Indra is an ancient Vedic deity, so I imagine Indraneel refers to a blue sapphire to which metaphysical properties aligned to Indra are ascribed.

Good as this is, I can't resist pointing that the plural of "phenomenon" is "phenomena". One phenomenon, two phenomena; this phenomenon, these phenomena; that phenomenon, those phenomena; such a phenomenon, such phenomena; every phenomenon, all phenomena. You get the idea. The same is true of "criterion" (singular) and "criteria" (plural).

"Asterism" also means a recognizable, named group or pattern of stars that doesn't constitute a constellation. The best known is the Big Dipper (a/k/a The Plough), which is only a portion of the constellation of Ursa Major. In southern skies, the Southern Cross is an asterism of four (or maybe five) stars within the constellation Crux (which is of course named for the Southern Cross within it).

oh so that's what a star sapphire is. I've been wondering about that since i read the inheritance series, in it there is a giant ruby carved into the shape of a perfect rose that they called a star sapphire and for some reason i never looked it up so thank you (btw is a ruby that displays this property called a sapphire) Edit: Flapjacks (i wont forget next time, sorry matpat)

Bad aspect of this video, it doesn't show its crutial part: asterism is light phenomenon. Thus, you should show how it looks in shaddow too. All gems shown here under same light, so it looks like simple drawing/texture on gem, instead of light effect.

I love rose quartz. i never had one with asterism it must be beautiful. I found a huge chunk of rose quartz on Mount Washington in the Presidential Mountains of New Hampshire that was about the size of my head! It happened to be on a day that I was having a rough time of it hiking. It helped to bring my spirits up a bit. It would have been impossible for me to carry it out, though I think in this case it was best to leave it for others to enjoy too. I have not been back to that mountain since, so I often wonder if it's still there. Either way, my memory of that crystal and of that day will stay. When I think of it I swear that I can feel it's good energy.

darrick steele 4 hours ago ,"I love rose quartz. i never ..." darrick, and others reading this, I suggest in future events like this you photograph it with a GPS enhanced phone and supply the photo to a site like google maps, and then it becomes a destination for others to see online and in person(as it then is GPS retrievable)and you could then ask others to visit it and witness it's future well being. Good Luck. P.S. most phones are GPS CAPABLE, but might need be GPS enabled just prior to the photographing of it. (Check it beforehand)
