The original Star Trek series was aired in reruns when I was a kid. I couldn't wait to get home from school to watch them. Thanks for reintroducing them to me.

Glad to do just that 👍

Haven't seen this one before, like others here as a kid I watched reruns after school with the cousins and this was after the wonderment of the " space race" we were believers in space truly being the final frontier. Thank you as always for the video and commentary, a peaceful and happy Sunday to all

There are a few clunckers from time to time, AF is one of them. Next week's is an all-time classic.

Vasquez Rocks! Wind machines! Trippy music! Galactic overlays! Inverse negatives! Batman style spinning dailies! And dig those whiskers too! If those remarks seem flip that's likely because I've watched this episode well over a dozens times since the seventies and different things stand out to me now than they did back when. The episode seems purposefully made to invoke a sense of frustration in the viewer, perhaps to elicit sympathy for frustrated Lazarus. Without the patch which was which? The twin first thought evil shows himself good by willingly sacrificing himself for the needs of the many. Twilight Zone popularized the notions of alternative realities and parallel worlds in tv fiction, but left the how and why to the gaps. Star Trek, on the other hand, as science fiction, needed to ground that concept in a narrative realism. This episode might be one of the first television science fiction treatments of what today we would call a multiverse.

Very interesting take which I hadn't thought about. Will be interesting on a re-watch to view it with that lense

This episode faced real production problems. For example, the actor who was scheduled to play Lazarus did not show up for work. He was replaced literally at the last moment by actor Robert Brown, who described the filming as "tight and tense". Also, a sub-plot involving a romance between Lazarus and Charlene Masters was dropped, which left huge gaps in the film: the gaps were filled apparently by endless shots of Lazarus running through the rocky terrain and wrestling in an inter-dimensional void. It's a pity, because the production problems damaged a decent story, making it a difficult episode to watch.

At least this gives some reasoning behind the story not being executed as well as it's potential deserved

Your analysis is pretty much like most of ours. They had an intriguing concept but the episode was "all over the place." Personally, I think it was a story that needed to be told perhaps a little differently with a touch more budget. Alas, even with less popular episodes character development/quirks keeps on going. Spock being perplexed at someone's reaction when he calls them a liar comes to mind.

Always a shame when the potential of a story is not fully executed

Everyone says SPOCKS BRAIN is the worst episode but I think this one is.

The Man Trap was awful. Today they would rename it: “Marriage without a prenup.

I don't know about worst. Return of the Archons was pretty bad. Its funny that this episode and the next began with big galactic disturbences that rock the galaxy.😊😊

Yeah, not the worst episode but definitely not one of the strongest

Good reaction, thanks. Good sci-fi story, but the production wasn't very good.

The low production sometimes brings it's own charm I feel though

The weakest episode of Season 1 imo. The initial idea is interesting but never fully articulated or fleshed out and I find the visuals of this "eternal corridor" to be badly represented with bad spfx fully realizing that the budget might not have allowed a more visceral representation of it., but oh, well. This episode's reach exceeded its grasp.

Great concept. Lackluster execution
