“What’re ya standing aroun’ for?! Do ya not know a jailbreak when ya see one?!” - Montgomery Scott/James Doohan

Every Star Trek 5 video clip I watch has people saying something like "This wasn't a good film but I love this scene". Every single one. People can't admit that they like the film. I can. Love this film

They just had to do most of them on the cheap. I liked ST5...had some good lines. ST4,5,6 were the cast having fun poking fun at their younger selves in a 1960s Galaxy Quest series. The writers hung a lantern on every dramatic plot hole in TOS.

I for one wasn't a fan of this movie. That was a silly unnecessary moment mined for cheap laughs. Just as bad was the fact that they dubbed over Nichelle Nichols singing, despite her protests. I thought it was a poor move as well.
@Romulan24694 жыл бұрын
@@houseofno Apparently James Doohan wasn't happy about this scene. He believed that Shatner (who he never liked to begin with) has set this scene up to make Scotty look like an idiot and full of hot air. I'm not sure if that was Shatner's intention or just for a cheap laugh as you say, but I think it was in poor taste as Scotty really did know the Enterprise that well.

1989, the Cinematographer from this film spoke at my college not long before the film came out. A student asked "what kind of film would you like to work on next?" He replied, "a small dramatic film about human relationships without a lot of special effects." I think that's a pretty telling although indirect review of ST5. And I am a lifelong Star Trek fan since 1976.

James Doohan HATED this scene and voiced his displeasure publicly multiple times. He felt it made Scotty look like a buffoon for a cheap punchline laugh and was a disrespectful slap in the face to his beloved character. Some fans ate this "hilarious" scene up, while others most definitely agreed 100% with James Doohan, including myself as a longtime Trek fan!:(

I'm not going to say this is a bad movie, but at the same time Star Trek didn't quite know what to do after the comedy of Star Trek IV. They tried to keep the slapstick elements in V (Scotty bumping his head, rocket boots), and VI (The translation scene), but they really didn't work. In Star Trek IV, the comedy mood is exactly what was needed. Star Treks II and III were heavy movies with some really dark moments and we needed something a little lighter. But keeping the slapstick in the remaining movies brought them down a notch.

***** This Film had one hell of a troubled production history: Less Money than originally planned, another Effects Studio than ILM (for these reasons, the originally planned visually exiting Ending had to be scrapped), a Writers' Strike and the Studio butting in to insist on more humor in what was originally a darker Story (due to the success of the rather light-hearted STIV). And if you ask me, that is goddamn sad. In terms of Camerawork, Editing and how to use the Actors Shatner isnt actually that bad of an director. The Character-driven Moments are enough proof for that. If he had been able to make the movie he had originally planned, it would have been much, much better. Damn, he asked for a chance to make a Directors Cut for release on DVD, but was turned down. :(

A proper explosion would have been nice. How hard is it to put some detonators on the other side and set them off? You make that part of the wall as expendable, add some explosives and set it off during the scene. Good enough to make a hole in the wall without injuring the cast members.
