One reason this video works is because Star Trek is so well established that so many people know what essential Star Trek is like the original series. This video meets those essential standards in a very nice way.

Thanks! I did the Adventure series to satisfy my Trek nerd need to DO Star Trek and not just passively experience it. All very amateurish, but fun to tell a story and play in that world… Star Trek was definitely a formative experience of my youth, defining much of my foundational beliefs and perceptions. 😀🖖

TOS was a formative experience for me. The humanistic viewpoint inherent in that Trek was one reason I got two degrees in Philosophy and had a career as a public school teacher for 30 years. It has been a cognitive challenge to learn the modeling/animation/video editing and an aesthetic challenge to try to tell a story with just spaceships and such… But all fun… And all the time I spend doing this “keeps me out of trouble” 😁 Thanks for the interest! 😃👍🖖

The Excelsior class would not be there. It was only a 10 year mission. If it was launched with the fastest engine Starfleet had, that would have put its departure 18 months prior to the events of the 1st movie. Kirk than did a 5 year mission with the new Enterprise. That puts us at 6-1/2 years. Kirk than takes the promotion and spends enough time to make full admiral and grow to feel tired and old. Enough time passes for Sulu to from Lt. CMDR, through full Commander and awaiting promotion to Captain, at the start of TWOK. That right there is 10 years worth of time. The events of ST3 with the introduction of the Excelsior are approx 15 years since V’GER. Your time line doesn’t add up.
@bobfischer
@bobfischer 18 күн бұрын
Hello. According to the “Official Time Of Star Trek” on Infographics (link below) the Adventure could have launched in 2272, a year before TMP. It was an experimental prototype engine and possible faster than the typical TMP era engines. It would have returned in 2282, just three years before ST3. It would be reasonable that The Excelsior Class was years in the making and that they had two prototypes at the space dock. Perhaps they were essentially empty shells, just placed there as part of the “honor guard” arrival ceremony. I have no idea how official this timeline really is, but it might with just a little stretch of the imagination work. I really just wanted to depict TMP technology with the scouts, and a glimpse into the cutting edge tech with the Excelsior, contrasting it with the beaten up TOS era scout class Adventure. All fiction anyway, but some artistic license is essential in the process of creation. A large part of the fun of Trek is formulating “Trek logic” that would explain the myriad of inconsistencies present throughout the Trek universe. It’s all about the story, not the fine details. As Leonard Nimoy stated: “Canon is only important to certain people because they have to cling to their knowledge of the minutiae. Open your mind! Be a 'Star Trek' fan and open your mind and say, 'Where does Star Trek want to take me now'.” Anyway, I try to have good “Trek logic”, but not having a writing team, voice actor team, animation team, music team, video editing team, Trek canon team, etc. I am just doing the best I can myself. 😃🖖 coolinfographics.com/blog/2019/11/26/official-timeline-of-star-trek-video

@@bobfischer, I’ve been into trek since 66, when it first aired, and did my first CON in 74. So as you can see, I am old as dirt. So I am painfully aware of the passage of time. TMP was 2273, the events of 2-4 were 2285. That’s 12 years. Even if your ship delayed launch until only a year before TMP, that’s 13 years, putting your ship getting back 3 years before Excelsior’s launch, which meant it would barely be beyond the laying of the keel, not a complete empty space frame. Yes, Nimoy did make that quote. But sometimes canon IS important, because the extended timeframe is critical to the story to explain Kirk’s weariness at the beginning of TWOK. It’s his journey from that to his sense of wonder at the end, his “rebirth” as it were. The 3 movies in fact, were a rebirth of the franchise; TWOK was Kirk’s, TSFS was of the crew, and finally, VH the Enterprise herself. The passage of time showed how it affected us, both as individuals AND as the Trek Family. If you dismiss that, then you dismiss much of what makes Trek so important, the Human Journey.
@bobfischer
@bobfischer 17 күн бұрын
Yes, the passage of time is important for both story and character development. Easy fix for Adventure: I never said the ship came back in 10 years. I said in the narration “near the end of the 10 year mission” It was sent on a 10 year mission, but it might have taken longer and probably would have. So, it might have come back after 12-15 years later and better matched your timeline. Strangely I had originally wanted to make an issue out of this, saying the 10 year mission actually lasted a year or two longer. But there is only so much narration possible. I really did not think it would matter… 🤣🖖

@@bobfischer, actually I think you should have added the old girl herself if you really wanted to welcome back the Adventure, properly. Whether it was in her waning years as but a training vessel, or with a fresh lease on life from her rebirth, somehow a pass in review should include the Enterprise (depending on timeframe). Just doesn’t seem complete without her…
@bobfischer
@bobfischer 17 күн бұрын
@@kennethcollins7665 Good point. I just wanted my series to be Constitution free, considering the overwhelming appearances of that class vessel. I supposed the Enterprise was doing something else or the inclusion of the famous Enterprise would draw too much attention… This might be amusing: In “Next” I did narrate “10 years in their (Federation rivals) back yard”… I was going to resolve the timeline issue with an animation. The Adventure would be heading home on schedule after “Next”. A very high tech spacecraft stops them, says they have to be sent 5 years into the future to keep the timeline coherent. Some undetectable space time anomaly the Adventure passed through earlier had disrupted the timeline. Asked who they were, they just give the enigmatic answer “The Travelers”… 🤣 So, for the Adventure, it was 10 years… Even if I don’t animate it, that is what happened. 🤓😜

The special effects they could do on Babylon 5 in the 90’s took a whole professional effects team to do. With current technology I can achieve close to that with only myself and one computer. The current level of professional special effects in video is just beyond what a single person and computer can realistically do now. Also, the soundtrack I produced I create on a Korg Triton Extreme, which is a 90’s instrument and probably used on the Babylon 5 soundtrack. So, 30 years behind in production technology for producing 60 year old TOS style videos… All good… 🤣👍🖖

I wanted to have control of the music and do it myself. I like ELP, prog rock and such, so the synth sound fits with that aesthetic. If I had a choice of listening to the philharmonic do a classical piece, or ELP I would choose the latter… That being said, when you hear the distorted lead guitar that is an actual electric guitar I’m playing… 😃 If I was doing this to make money and wanted to appeal to the common taste and had the financial resources to hire a classical orchestra, of course that would be the way to go… But I’m not… Anyway, all subjective aesthetics… 😃🖖 P.S. You told a story, made it interesting, and had good adventurous music to boot. Thanks! The scout ships were named after four of my friends that have suffered through my crying about all the technical issues I had doing this series: Hardy, Helton, Oliver, and Bailey. The two Miranda class ships were named Steadfast and Resolution, the Excelsior class ships named Majesty and Grandeur. No research into canon, just threw out some names. There is definitely better fan animation out there, but I sacrificed better animation so I could tell a story. I believe that is in the true spirit of the original Star Trek, the special effects just a vehicle, in this case literally the scout ship, to tell a story and delivery some kind of meaningful message. Trek on! 😀🖖

10 year mission with only one nacelle? Taking a big chance there. Hopefully no battles along the way

@bobfischer 16 күн бұрын
I would generally agree, but in my scenario they need a super fast ship, (it has a prototype engine faster than a Constitution Class), one that can be equipped and launched quickly, and one that will not be noticed if it disappears. To mitigate issues with only one engine, the ship has been modified with a shuttle and a worker bee bay. This combined with new at the time replicators and manufacturing facilities in the ship, would allow them to repair the ship themselves. I actually have a scene in one episode where they repair a damaged nacelle. It’s humorous because in “canon” where two nacelles are needed to produce a warp field, if one was damaged you would be dead in the water as well… 😛 It’s all fiction anyway, but I think my “Trek logic” is sound enough for a fun little journey in the Trek universe… 😃🖖

@bobfischer 17 күн бұрын
If you saw the whole Adventure series, then the super weapon eventually added to the ship probably would have made that battle over in 5 seconds. The other augmented weapons and shield probably would have made it the most powerful Federation ship there. To try to keep that level of power consistent with later Trek technology, something happens in the story that makes those augments shut down and become nothing that can be learned from. Anyway, all Trek fun… 😃🖖

@@aeriel69 According to the Technical Manual, warp is a function of speed of light cubed… Warp 1: 1x speed of light Warp 2: 8x speed of light Warp 3: 27x speed of light Etc. In extreme cases in TOS they might get to Warp 14. In TNG Warp is limited to 10 which can never be achieved. So the fastest possible is Warp 9.99. Gene Roddenberry established the maximum velocity of the starship as ".73 of one light year per hour". This would translate to a top speed of 6394.8c (approximately equivalent to TOS warp 18.56, or somewhere between warp 9.975 and 9.99 as given in the Star Trek: Voyager Technical Manual For my series I’ll stick with TOS scale… 😃🖖

But as it is, it is just me putting these little stories together. Basic narrated videos is about as far as I can go.
