I emigrated to North America in 1976 when I was four years old. We had a small TV that only picked up a few local stations via antenna. One of those stations played reruns of the original series Star Trek. Within six months of arriving, I was speaking perfect English and had developed a strong interest in science and math. Fast forward and I eventually got a degree in electrical engineering and now live a comfortable life. Thank you Star Trek for inspiring a young mind! :-)

This original starship design is the number ONE reason why I liked the 60's TV Star Trek. But leave it to Hollywood to mess with this awesome design when they rebooted Star Trek in those latest big screen movies. There are some thing that are just to hard to improve, this first ship design is one of them. Lastly you did a outstanding job on this recreation of this starship Enterprise build, thanks for sharing!
@mesner5x7 жыл бұрын
Job38 Four Personally I find the rebooted enterprise to be quite good looking. Proportions were wonky in the first film but I can look past that. Guess it's a generational thing though, I appreciate both though, the original for its classic simplicity, the newer version for its updated and modernized look. It unfortunate trekkers tear each other apart over it though. Weather people like the reboots or not, Fighting over it goes against the ideas fans have learned over the years.

I had a model of the Enterprise I put together, I had a wooden Vulcan nickel, a Star Trek Lives T shirt I made a Science officer’s uniform shirt complete with insignia and braids and had a Star Trek technical manual that was stolen from me.😡My nickname all through Jr. High was Spock. I met a friend at riding school who was a Dr. McCoy fan. She made a uniform doctor shirt like I made mine. She went to conventions. I even turned a small transistor radio into a communicator with the flippy thing. Who knew the concept of a communicator would be a flip phone decades later. Unfortunately my VCR can’t be connected to my flat screen but have in my movie collection Star Trek The Wrath of Khan, the first movie, a Star Trek episode tape of A Private Little War, another video where it had bloopers, and all the episodes of the original series. Can’t play ‘em but still have them as sentimental items. Dr. McCoy sorta looked like my late uncle. My I have in my IPad The Doomsday Machine and A Balance of Power videos. Bravo!!!! Wonderful video. JJ's Enterprise was built on Earth (In Iowa ffs, a physical impossibility). Even though Roddenberry's Enterprise's dedication plate says San Fransisco, I've always pictured it being built in space, maybe it was the SF shipyards in orbit. StarTrek Experience in Vegas originally wanted to build a full size Enterprise with all the decks etc. It was going to be a hotel, have restaraunts, gambling and tours. It could have worked (though not fly into space lol) But, Vegas' zoning laws prevented them building something that large.

I think what must have occurred to J.J. Abrams--and it didn't occur to me--was that if a starship had the power to exceed the speed of light, it had the power to escape a planet's gravity. (Which it did, as we saw in "Into Darkness." But in real life, anything as big as the Enterprise would have to be built in space, as we don't have the power to lift anything of that mass into orbit. Not yet, anyway.

That's not the point! The point is that there should have been NONE of James Horner's symphonic NOISE played over ANY of it! That was all Horner EVER vomited out, symphonic NOISE!!!

Absolutely outstanding job of CGI!! Having done a little bit of it myself, I can totally appreciate how much hard work and how many hours must have gone in. Since this is at least five years old it would be terrific to see an updated version with much more detail on the exterior of the Enterprise's skin. Kudos on a job very well done!

People fault the original TV ship for being too simplified, but I always liked it. You wouldn't embellish the outside much, you would keep it simple if you were building an actual machine that got shot at while it was doing whatever spacetime manipulation magic the outrigger pods do. It's a nice space catamaran :-) And the JJ-prise just looks dorky. This one is clean.

It was the 1960's. SciFi wasn't as big as today, and given the fact that NBC almost cancelled the show after the first pilot, there was no money to make things more elaborate anyway. That said, if it wasn't for Star Trek TOS being the trend setter that it was, the SciFi genre wouldn't have become as big as it is today. We wouldn't even have the Star Wars franchise or TV shows like Stargate or Battleship Galactica to name a few. My favourite Enterprise incarnation is the refit that first flew in TMP, with the flat warp nacelles and the blue deflector dish. The evolution of the original Constitution Class and the most beautiful of all ships named Enterprise.

LTU932 Imagine the TNG crew or Voyager crew trying to figure out the TOS Enterprise consoles work. For example, Science station, Communication station, Navigation and Tactical stations, and Engineering station. I don't think they would make it out space dock yet trying to go to warp.

Remember the crew of the ISS Enterprise in the mirror universe episode "In a Mirror, Darkly". They were able to figure out how to operate the USS Defiant (the original Constitution class ship from "The Tholian Web") when they found her inside that asteroid near the gas giant. So I'm sure the TNG, DS9 or Voyager crews would have gotten the hang of it.

Not to mention, the crews of ALL the series were always able to figure out how just about any alien technology worked!

I really enjoyed this treatment. You took a few liberties with lighting and such, but I have to admit I got goosebumps when the ship's systems started to come online. Nothing will ever replace the original Enterprise at the top of my Star Trek ship list, and this was the treatment she always deserved.

Neat video. God watches out for fools, drunks, and ships called the Enterprise.
