I really love the 2d20 System and have enjoyed working through the latest version here in Star Trek Adventures 2E! I had a question for Nathan that I hope can be covered in an upcoming episode when you talk about extended tasks. I'm not familiar with how extended tasks worked in 1E, but in Dune Adventures in the Imperium the chance to fail an extended task was conditioned on you having a limited number of attempts to complete the extended task. In 2E, it's not clear to me how one fails an extended task, and was hoping for some advice around a limited number of attempts or other options to make sure the pressure stays on with the possibility of failure clear.

@MarcDotson Basically, there's no single hard limit on Extended Tasks in Star Trek, but there are numerous ways that a GM can apply that kind of limitation based on the circumstances, and it's recommended that you use Extended Tasks in situations where there's tension, pressure, or peril. This could be a limited number of attempts, or a time limit (with each attempt taking a at amount of time), or some danger or potential for damage. I often put Extended Tasks as non-fighting objectives in a combat. A fun option is using the Extended Consequences rules (p331 of the core book) as the opposite side of an Extended Task (pass a roll, add to the task track, fail and add to the consequence track).

New to STA. I got the Humble Bundle and looked at the community on YT. Was filled with so much goodwill that I took the leap and bought 2e. Thanks to your whole team, even support through email was superb. 🖖
