Below are a series of comments demonstrating why Star Trek might never gain mass appeal. The fanbase are judge mental gatekeepers of their own fandom that reject any notion that people that do not conform to their notions of what constitutes a Trekkie. Trekkies are the least knowledgeable of what makes Star Trek great. They claim it's about openness and diversity but go on witch hunts against who they deem are not true fans. As I said in an earlier comment, in fairness to the doubters, of all the celebrity "I love Star Trek" stories, this is the most generic, to a point where, you can swap out the words Star Trek with virtually any other franchise/series and nothing will change. Not even a mention of what her first series was, WHICH series her dad introduced her to, or her favorite captain. I mean Whoopi Goldberg has that infamous story of her running to her mother in excitement to tell her about Uhura. You could change the words Star Trek to James Bond and you'd never know it was supposed to be about Star Trek.

James Bond is a movie character, so she really wouldn't mention watching a "first episode". But I do love the gatekeeping though. Also, let's not pretend as if she had named her favorite character, scene, or series, people wouldn't nitpick her as "trying too hard". In case y'all didn't know, for PoC, Star Trek, especially TOS was one of the few shows that actually had PoC in non-subservient roles. That was a HUGE deal, especially when ALSO at that time, you could see black and brown people being beaten in the streets of Montgomery and Birmingham AL on national TV. In TOS, we were still there in the future, being treated as equals (or more equal than had been portrayed on TV during the 1960s). Considering her father came of age during that time, it's not impossible that her father didn't introduce the series to her. That's what my mom did for me.

in fact this song is as uninteresting as most pop songs, would have been nice to hear a bit more trekkie feel in the song. even if "faith of the heart" is just a covered version in enterprise, it matches the tone of the series very well and the melody is far more interesting and - just better - than sledgehammer. sledgehammer is basically three chords looped over and over again IN EVERY PART OF THE SONG with a few audio effects, lazy beat and a text which has barely something to do with the film.

The TV show's being made by the same people as the movies, so you won't be getting away from anything. And most likely, they're not going to go back the the old continuity (Prime universe) that you and people like you love.

The tv series will not only be set in the prime universe, but it will have zero connection to the JJ films and is not being made by Paramount or have any input or involvement from them, it's being made by CBS. CBS own the tv rights, and Paramount own the movie rights. Two completely different companies, two completely different creative teams, and two completely different universes / timelines. Neville6000 Again, CBS does not have the rights to anything having to do with the JJ films, so they couldn't set it during that timeline even if they wanted to. The people working on the show by and large are people who worked on the old shows and movies, and the showrunner, Bryan Fuller, has already heavily insinuated some of the actors from the 90s shows will be reprising their roles. Makes no since to bother with that if this is the clean-slate JJ timeline.
