You did a solid job. But realistically a Galaxy class should defeat an Intrepid class in a straight 1v1. Galaxy class ships just pack a huge punch.

the big problem with galaxy class especially early is how weak the shields are

An Intrepid class is a match for an older Galaxy glass. (pre-dominion war) But a dominon refit Galaxy class would definitely win.

If you target subsystems and use the tractor beam you can win it with an Intrepid class against the Galaxy class.
