Captain Rayner will end up being captain of the Discovery and Burnham is going to go off with Booker in the end.

@@SmartSmears It doesn't mean that enitre crew will survive. Also The Best of Both Worlds was also meant to be series fianle that would kill off Picard and let Riker take over Enterprise, when suddenly show was renewed and they had to film again part 2.

It's interesting watching this season knowing that its the final one, but also knowing that they didn't think it was going to be at the writing and filming stage. Because so much of this season has been about legacy, what we leave behind after we're gone, Stamets is struggling with that since the spore drive project got scuttered, and with the Progenitors, technically all of them are their legacy. Mol and L'ak feel like an intentional parallel to Burnham and Book's life before the Discovery arrived in the future, Mol turning out to be the daughter of Book's mentor, the guy he took the name of to carry on his legacy. Rayner feels reminiscent of Lorca, so not only is him getting a second chance a parallel to Burnham getting a second chance in season 1, but also like she's giving Lorca a second chance. Despite this not originally being written like a final season, it feels like a final season. And of course, like all good sit-coms do, it'll probably end with Saru's wedding

Picard, refering to the ship being built during our 14 century... "But when this ship was built, humans on Earth were just perfecting the mechanical clock, still using steel crossbows in battle."

I liked Rayner with his own ship, very reminiscent of Captain Jellico. I dislike losing Saru, and Rayner being removed from his ship with, what is effectively, a demotion.

Doesn't Starfleet practise their phaser skills by shooting at little flying orbs going all the way back to the NX era? Why did they find these orbs so terrifying!

It has been 900 years they can't start over like raw cadets scotty said that too geordi and this applies to the entire std crew the 1st officer was born in this time of Starfleet he should be smarter than all of them

I didn't mind these first 2. Great? No. But good enough. Probably be a good season because they decide to just wrap it up and not spin the wheels in the mud.

Captain Rayner is Captain Kirk .. They're sending a message. Raynar is the classic Starfleet Captain. It doesn't make sense to put him under a younger Captain. It's the message...
@thomashong2938

That younger captain was extending him a lifeline after Rayner torpedoed his career by going on an angry rant directed at the Federation president. He was being forced into early retirement. Burnham was giving him a second chance by offering to make him her new first officer.

The writing on Discovery is trash, but so is anybody who makes a personal attack on an actress’ appearance. Tilly is a cringe-worthy idiot - but you critique someone’s appearance and you loose all credibility.

I am thankful it’s the last season. It’s so desperate and transparent of them that they are pulling in a storyline from TNG - just desperate to get some attention from the fan base they disrespected for 4 seasons, before they realise their ship is sinking and their new fans can’t carry them forward.

Burnhams actress is really just awful, her facial expressions and the way she talks is so annoying and amateurish. She hasn't improved at all over the years. Tilly and Adira are still annoying and cringe. The other actors are all pretty good.

What’s crazy is the actress was so likeable in The Walking Dead. In Discovery, Burnham is DISGUSTING 😵‍💫🤢🤮 Aggressive, arrogant, angry, swinging from disrespectful to authority figures but sickly sweet and emotional with her crew mates which I don’t believe she has any real history or chemistry with. Compare the crew with the crew of Voyager, you believed they lived through something together - Discovery makes zero sense, and Burnham’s portrayal is a big part of the problem. Gross.

I hate the slightly messianic single origin of life angle, so Klingons, Romulans etc all come from one source species, really!?, What about Homo Erectus, what about Elephants and Stromolytes, what about Tribbles, where did the "origin" Species come from, it's just crap and feeds into the counter scientific UFO/Aliens bullshit.
@friday6448
@friday6448 8 ай бұрын
Well the TNG episode that introduced the idea states that it was all humanoid life, so elephants and tribbles wouldn't be included in that. It's just an in-universe explanation for why 99% of all aliens look like humans with stuff glued to their heads, its harmless. The progenitors evolved naturally to that humanoid form, then seeded that print across the galaxy resulting most advanced alien life being humanoid. Have you not seen the TNG episode that this season is following up on?

@@friday6448 Yes, and I hated the concept, it denies human evolution from primitive life and primates which is established science, and replaces it with something equivalent to a religious story, StarTrek is SciFi not fantasy.

@@logtothebase2I've always taken it as a bit less direct. Life still evolved like it did, it just had some sort of guidance towards a certain point
@logtothebase2
@logtothebase2 8 ай бұрын
@@thod8820 so did the life that did the guiding, aloso get some guiding as well form a previously evolved sentient species? it all seems a bit chicken and egg, and it doesn't sit well with me. If evolution science is really what happened (and frankly it is), it should be expected that it would come up with similar looking creatures wherever it happened, kind of like the multitude of Crab like animals on earth that are entirely different genetically. I know all bit philosophical for Star Trek discussion, but I think it should be more rigorously scientific on some things, rather dip into woo woo,
@thod8820
@thod8820 8 ай бұрын
@@logtothebase2 I mean, I'm not going to disagree with you about the real science. I just think Star Trek has never really been all that hard science fiction in this regard. There has been gods and species designing others since the original series. I don't think that means it has to keep doing that and I can see why you don't want it to, but I think it can be fun for a fantasy world to explore those ideas.
