Yes watching tv first episode the more I watch it the more I think that the good captain Birman is still alive somewhere and the meaning that the Klingon said we ate he skill together mean it could me the evil one he was talking about. That leader could be a great grand son 900 years from the future of the Klingon human hybrid to start the war early in the federation rather then later

Love that part about the lullaby. My theory is that whatever blew up the dilithium also put that song in everyone's head. Some kind of frequency broadcast on some level galaxy wide that did that to the dilithium also left that song in ppl's head. analyze that song and it may give you a clue to who was behind the burn.

How could Starfleet not figure out what happened to the dilithium crystals after they exploded I'm guessing whoever caused the dilithium to explode had the power to somehow alter the minds and memories of everyone in the universe I bet that the Terran universe is responsible the fact that copies of individuals from each universe exist in each universe makes it possible to somehow connect the minds of both universes as a conduit to each other the end game would be to cause a neural link and wipe the memory of everyone in implant new ones

There must be some kind of way out of here... said the joker to the thief.. 😉 Honestly though, why could it not just not be som old tune or federation anthem? Why assume some mystery right off the bat? Also a bit annoying that it is yet again Michael Burnham who notices it. Would have been great if some one else makes an critical observation now and then.

7:37 I quite liked this little bit of friction between Seru and Burnham about working around it and doing it their own way Vs following the system and showing they can follow protocol because I feel like it touches back to the very first episode with the Battle at the Binary Stars, as Captain Georgiou wants to do introduce herself to the Klingons by the book and with the system but Burnham thinks she should do it her own way and takes matters into her own hand. I quite like how things go full circle because it shows some growth with Burnham as last time she was in a situation like this, she took matters into her own hand and things went very wrong but now she's willing to listen to the captain and follow on realising that even though she thinks they should be doing things differently, acting out on her own accord is not the best idea. (just my opinion though)

You forgot the Uss Nog reference 😂 And also after the opening credits if you look at the floating data before Saru, Burnham and Adira enter the room it said one word, Kazon, so from the looks of it the federation once it was able to get out to the Delta Quadrant made peace with the Kazon even got them to join from the looks of it maybe, well see Overall I loved this episode, shame Nhan stayed behind but can understand her reasoning for staying, think there maybe a little bit of theme going with starships where certain starships cannot hold onto more then just one senior officer in department, enterprise D was helmsman and now discovery with chief of security, first landry, then Tyler and now Nhan 😂 please just settle down with a chief of security, maybe promote lieutenant Reece, he seems to be Discovery's weapons officer, make him Chief of Security 😂 Overall it was a brilliant episode, wasnt as impactful as last weeks but it was still good and had some fanboy scream worthy moments.

You completely forget to mention the whole melody subplot of this episode. Personally, I hope they are going with the route of the Discovery and its crew never having won at the end of season 2. Instead, they are all stuck in some kind of simulation and Michael notices the breadcrumbs of that over the course of this season. Makes sense considering that they were fighting against an AI in season 2 and would make quite the bombshell ending when season 3 ends and the crew realizes that they are prisoners in a simulation. Otherwise I would not know how to explain the melody... At least atm

@@hawhite2000 - We were meant to feel protective loyalty to Discovery, as cultivated viewers. To them, She was an antique... with an old fashioned crew. Imagine the Monitor or the Merrimack, from our civil war, asking to join a modern aircraft carrier, in some conflict? (Might be cause to pause!) Perhaps, a Trojan horse, within a struggling and self-admitted time of the dark age. Prove your loyalty... prove your value... prove yourself! We still haven’t figured out the Burn? What can you bring to the party, other than a ship in need of modern retrofitting, and a crew well behind the times! For me, it represents a reintegration of traditional StarFleet, and Federation values to the rebuilding of the Federation. Imagine, if Washington, Paine, Franklin, and Jefferson... showed up in present day America? “What have you done with the freedom and Liberty... the very republic we gave you?” Imagine how poorly they would be treated, seeing their nation-state creation heading to Marxist ideologies!

So we're 5 episodes in and we haven't seen or heard anything about the Romulans, whose ships are powered by a quantum singularity and wouldn't have been affected by the burn. I thought they might have been behind the burn, but if it was a simple power grab, they would have had more than enough firepower to finish off Starfleet and take control of the quadrant. Note; the Tal Shiar had a fleet of 200+ ships in the Picard season 1 finale and one would assume their numbers have drastically increased in the 800 years leading up to the burn. I'm thinking Cronenberg is probably the head of Section 31, and they kept a copy of Control because they're arrogant enough to believe they could keep it contained. Control eventually escapes (or takes over Section 31, again), triggers the burn and waits patiently for Discovery to show up. That's the kind of plot twist that I would expect from some lazy script writers. A slightly less lazy plot thread would be the Discovery crew forgetting to cull Airiam's implants before her funeral, centuries later a salvage vessel finds her coffin drifting in space. When the crew extracts Airiam's hard drive, Control takes over the ship and it's crew and again triggers the burn. Either way, Control then has a century to strategically place itself somewhere inside the remnants of Starfleet, knowing that when Discovery finally makes it to the future that they would try to make contact. I really hope it's not Control, that the melody is the key to the burn and it somehow ties in with Michael's mother being MIA.

And the situation is actually way better than I thought for UFP. 32 member worlds?Archer only had one when facing romulans, and there were only 4 when UFP was born. Yes it's only 1/11 of its biggest size but it's still better than the beginning. And on a side note,we didn't know about the size of UFP in 2260s,but if in 2373 there were 150 then in 2260 it might be around as low as 60-70 to as high as 110 because 2310s to 2350s saw a rapid expansion of federation

After the episode, I thought: Maybe the Terran came back to revenge and did all the Burn. Why would they spend so 'much' time talking about Terran and the last Terran crossing? Furthermore Captain Georgiou already seemed a bit suspicious. Also the man with the glasses, maybe he has to wear them because he is sensitive to light and therefore is a terran spy. Great episode!

Earlier in the series, I thought like most "is the enterprise still in existence." seeing that we have a new voyager, seeing a new enterprise is a possibility. I did dome mental maths and based on the fact that they went through 10 enterprises in 3 centuries (1701 to 1701-j spanning the mid 23rd century to mid 26th century). from the 26th to 32nd century we would go through roughly 21 enterprises. that is a total of 31 letters so unless thy slowed down they would have exhausted the alphabet. but if they slowed down then the enterprise could still exist. what I'm saying is that seeing the USS Enterprise 1701-Z is a possibility.

Firstly, Happy birthday! Secondly, The seed ship having every plant in the galaxy is ridiculous. Not only had they barely explored any of the galaxy by the 23rd century, but the ship would have to be enormous (think about how tall Redwoods get!?) and that's just from Earth. Thirdly, there really was no reason Yum Yum decided to stay on the seed ship. Other than that, not a bad episode overall.

Seeds, the ship only carried the seeds. The plants were growing due to the accident that killed that guys family. That's what they say in the episode iirc.

@@Aliveandkicking1979 ah ok I'll have to rewatch :) It still never explained how they had every seed in the galaxy by Disco era. I don't imagine the Kazon or the Jem Hadar kindly traveled to the Alpha quadrant to give Starfleet seeds from fhr Delta and Gamma quadrants lol

The Voyager-J has to be a reference to the Enterprise-J from the show Enterprise. If there was an Enterprise by then, it’d have to be an Enterprise-T or U by then (Off the top of my head) And they did mention a new Constitution class, but that reference must be from what they know about it from the Discovery’s (their) time. The Original Enterprise. Hope that all makes sense. ❤️

Discovery definitely needs an overhaul to be able to keep up with ships 900yrs newer. Sheilds, Torpedoes, phasers.....or whatever they are using in that time.

I also enjoyed this epside and the way it was shot and edited reminded me of watching a TNG episode. It was god to see the Doctor and Nhan in more detail with their characters. Being a security officer on the Discovery seems to be a curse, aren#t there very long haha. There was also enough mystery for the different characters as an ongoing background story for the season - still want to know if they will retrofit the discovery at least with modern transporter tech and shields?

So why is the Discovery crew still wearing 1000 yr old uniforms? Given that uniforms have been produced with replicator it would make sense that the Disco crew fall in line with current Starfleet dress codes.

CBS and Paramount should create a web series that are Trek stories from the past using all the hundreds if not thousands of hours of fan made films as distorted records from the 900+yrs that have elapsed on Discovery. And if CBS was really smart they would even show the fan film and Segway into sponsored episode that are produced on budget by CBS. But hey what do we trekkies know about what Star Trek should be.

This seems like the federations and MANY other races have gone into a paranoid, robotic nature. I thought to myself... How did starfleet not think of the Seed ship... okay I get it Michael is carrying the plot flag.. but COME ON. Replicators.. can you replicate the seeds? is everything located ON the seed ship. Okay lets keep some of this open for Plot sakes.. and an excuse to use the spore drive. They gotta SHOW them how it works... but this is like the asgard coming to ask the Tauri for help because they no longer think stupid.
