Great transcription! I always think of this as the "kiss gets interrupted by the intercom"" theme, because they use it that way so much. But Marlene got there first.

Your studies in cues like this one have opened up an entirely new dimension of Star Trek enjoyment and appreciation beyond anything I might have anticipated.I’ve said it before , Star Trek is the gift that keeps on giving,thanks to guys like you Dave! I see/HEAR now,for the first time,how repeated use of the cues fostered such intense familiarity and personal relationship to the series. It’s why I am so intimately familiar with “Marlena”-the cue music but don’t specifically remember it exclusively from MirrorMirror!!!! Hearing this Played, I am transported in both time and space;A mental and emotional phenomena unparalleled to any other experience I know! It’s like an Old Friend.Great job Dave thanks again

Aww, I reallly appreciate the comments. Thanks. You will likely recall this same cue used in "The Deadly Years" for Kirk's relationship with Dr. Wallace, his one time flame. And you're right, they're like old friends that never fail, hurt or betray. Thanks again for viewing!

Wow, so cool, thank you for this! I only recently began to appreciate the music dimension of the show. Seeing the score magnifies the experience, even though I'm a pretty amateur music reader, and makes it even more impressive, just as it also magnifies the nostalgia. Many thanks David Page

Very cool. I really enjoy the music Romulan motif from one Star Trek TOS Episode Balance Of Terror .

That is really interesting. I guess I never associated the two cues. You can hear the "Romulan" theme a bit

Just discovered your channel, you do great stuff with the Trek scores! I'm really looking forward to you discussing George Duning's score for The Empath at some point. Gem's Theme is hand's down my favorite melody in all of Trek.

I love this score from the Original Series. Thanks for doing this David. You might want to check out a KZbin post "Star Trek Music, with Shem von Schroeck" Shem is just noodling around on a piano for a few minutes but the themes are so familiar, you are guaranteed to smile. The romanticism of the Original Series was really great, and the music was as important as any other part of it.
@davidpage93552 жыл бұрын
Agreed! And if Shem's video you mention is his exhaustive analysis of Kaplan's Doomsday Machine score, well that was really much of my inspiration. He even checked out my video of the same and left a very nice comment! Blew me away.

One of the most beautiful, sweeping romantic themes in TV history. I really don’t think the bare bones version played here does it much justice.
@davidpage93552 жыл бұрын
No it doesn't. It's only what I could produce on MuseScore.. just a facsimile to show (with hopefully some accuracy) the parts and melodic motion. Nothing compares with real players in a real studio.

@@davidpage9355 Understood,and no offense meant. I really appreciate what you do, explaining this stuff to those of us with a real appreciation of music but with very little in the way of musicological knowledge.

Also the notations shows a lack of understanding of basic theory of tonality!

aw yeah.. got that dark ship rise & fall going on in the back. :D and the romantic crescendos are very reminiscent of Debussy (or Ravel).

@@davidpage9355 Yeah that may have given Kirk pause for a minute or two. But I suppose he had reasoned out that there was Marlena's counterpart waiting at the other side of the transporter beam, granted not as sexily dressed but who cares! haha.
