Probably because that wouldn't make any sense. The Enterprise is HIS ship. He can't just assume command of another ship in 2 minutes. Otherwise, what would hinder any captain from just assuming command of any ship? 🤷 That would be too convenient for the plot.

It's not necessarily "bad." It's a sweet film that really examines the relationship between Kirk, Spock and McCoy. It's just not a great film. I like to think of 2, 3, 4, and 6 as one big story and 5 is nice little side quest. And 1 just ... doesn't exist.

Dr, McCoy was right. Starfleet had a lot of nerve to send Kirk and his crew on a rescue mission while the Enterprise-A was in pieces and with less than a skeleton crew on board her, even after the bridge on the Enterprise-A got redesigned.

Well, they are much older. It makes a difference. The tv show is when they are their prime youth, setting into the galaxy not knowing what to expect. By the time of the films they are mature and set in their ways and also have a much different mission.

I never noticed this before- the con and ops stations were touch screen. They downgraded back to push buttons in Star Trek 6. There are certain things I actually like about this movie. I really wish they would go back and do a special edition where they fix all of the shoddy FX work.

@@TonyTube407wasn't so much that it was loved, it's only crime of the storyline was a bit contrived and Shatner apparently didn't know how many decks the ship had. It was an imperfect movie bookended by two well loved movies. Which is why it gets so much hate, I would argue the motion picture was worse. This at least had some entertainment factor. If I wasn't a Trekkie I would have gotten about half way through the motion picture. At which point I would either get bored and watch something else or I would fall asleep.

2:19 Perfect reason why I like Kirk more than any other Captain. Doesn’t need to waste time with some fancy ass quote in lieu of saying go. (Ex. Engage or hit it.) Sulu knows to engage, he doesn’t have to be told. All Kirk has to say is “All possible speed Mr. Sulu.”

Sending out your best captain in a borderline derelict ship is a crime of the worst magnitude for Starfleet. You can build a new ship but you cannot easily replace the experience of a veteran captain and his equally experienced crew.

Last we saw the Enterprise, she was under running order. WTF happened to her between Star Trek 4 and 5? 🤨 Plot twist, the bridge which looks like it's going under diagnostic refit repair is just the movie set that didn't get completed in time of the filming, so stage crews are just dressed up as Starfleet yeoman trying finish the movie prop installation. 😏 Which explains why Star Trek V got such a rating, lol.

Forget the lame story line. What is great about this scene is that it make it seem more down to earth (so to speak). The character interactions were more relaxed. This is the Enterprise I would have liked to have seen in TOS. Below Decks does this but they go a little too far towards silly.

I always love how the Federation has thousands of ships, hundreds of member worlds and yet somehow no matter where they are, only the Enterprise and her (constantly changing) crew are experienced enough to deal with the issue. The Starfleet Chief of Staff Kirk was talking to could've tried to convince the Federation Council to have Kirk reinstated to Admiral. Kirk wasn't the only Starfleet Officer to command a starship at flag rank.

It’s not a bad film. I like it as it’s more like an old episode of trek. I like the relationship story as well as it’s not forced down our throat like on next gen. The script really needed a little doctoring and story needed a little fine tunning but it is very enjoyable on its own.
