I like how the Nexus missile simply blew up in Soren's face without fanfare the second time around. Also, the Nexus was a scary-looking mass of energy on the outside, but inside, it was truly Heaven.

Love the elegant movement of practical models, especially the "big" Enterprise-D. The last movie to have this "feel" in space was First Contact. After that, it was ALL (early, by today's standards) CGI, all the time.

agreed because the war criminals saw the operating systems and the "weak points" of the ship and also I believe riker was doing standard protocol and was trying to get out of orbit so they could have room to fire and the chance the enterprise went down the warp core breach wouldnt make the planet unihabitable...oh and too protect the bridge... the only dumb thing he did was not trying to fire phasers to at least scare them into cloaking

even though the crash landing of the enterprise was one of the best parts in the movie, I just wish they could have shown her putting up more of a fight before taking the final dive. there have been episodes where they would fire literally dozens of torpedoes and phasers at a single target. but here, they fire a single phaser, make a 180 degree turn, and then fire a torpedo. for a ship that has endured so many battles, they should have at least made the final battle intense for both sides.

I know this is way late, but apparently in the Generations video game, the battle actually *was* more intense, with the Duras sisters instead flying a Vor'cha cruiser and having BoPs as escorts. Honestly that should have been in the actual film, or at least a battlecruiser of some sort rather than a damn frigate going up against a battleship.

I like the FX in this movie except for the recycling of scenes from Start Trek 6. The FX are pretty crisp and they did a good job of trying to make the Enterprise seem big especially at 3:42 ... something that they couldn't do on the TV show budget

Well, another possibility is that the battle caused the ejection systems to go offline. Think about it, the shields were useless because Soren gave the crew of that Klingon bird of prey a way to see through Geordi’s visor, thus allowing them to see the shield frequency. That meant the Enterprise was getting systems battered hard with each torpedo fired at it.

The only changes I liked to the Excelsior I liked are the nacelles. The added impulse engines did nothing for me, and even though the added sections to engineering prevented any damage to the original model, it made the ship look ugly.

After such a grand intro for the Enterprise B, which is written out of the film in about 10 minutes, it's a little wild that that the Enterprise D is presented with so little fanfare, almost like they were eager to get rid of it. I'm sure the sailing vessel was a nice change of scenery for the cast, but could you imagine if the last shot of that starfield after the B passed transitioned to 70 years in the future with a nice glory shot of the D passing overhead? So many creative choices in this film just seem like wasted opportunities.

Depending on where and how starships are damaged, a lot of things can go wrong. In this case, I suppose warp and impulse were shut down due to the warp core breach that occurred shortly after.

Actually if you look at the books they released all they Klingons hit were the deuterium tanks (not the antimatter) and while that might shut down the warp drive the Enterprise D and E can run all systems, minus warp drive, at full power without the warp core. Also the primary hull can run weapons at full power by itself (Best of Both Worlds).

The Federation/Star Fleet Corps of Engineers are going to have a difficult time removing any traces of their existence (transforming the surface to eliminate the gulch, transplanting trees to match the age and species of the remaining ones, fix sheared off hill tops, ect...) before the bronze age inhabitants on the forth(?) planet evolve their sciences, that will result in space flights to this planet and, despite the Corps work will most likely find something they missed ;-) The lore of the shimmering sky snake and the sun that had awoken and died.

Yeah, look at at those beauty shots of the E-D (even while being shot to Hell!) and just _try_ to tell me with a straight face that she was destroyed because she "didn't look good on the big screen." She did, and it was obvious beforehand that she would. Berman (or someone above him) thought he could sell more merch with the next movie if he had a shiny new spaceship to dangle in front of the fans... and he was right, I'm afraid.

This has to be the dumbest battle scene this entire genre has ever had. Why in the worlds would a battle ship turn and run from a light cruiser? Nevermind that there's no way its going to evade without warp. If in ST 3 the enterprise out-gunned the enemy "10 to 1" this would be more like 50 to 1. All they had to do was floor it and empty the torpedo bay.

Kirk be in the future was stupid but i give a pass to have the only look of the enterprise B. Also kirk death dont bother me since in the 24th centry he would be dead anyway.
