Goes to show that Kirk is a man meant to travel the stars, discover new worlds, experience things many don't get close to experiencing in their entire lifetime, and be in command of a ship of his own. He's meant to die amongst the stars, not in an office where he's living a mundane life.

A true man has a wife and children to pass on all his greatness and achievements, one of Star Trek's biggest negatives

@@normanred9212 That's the most pathetic thing I've ever heard in my life. There's no guarantee that a wife and a child will pass those things on or provide a legacy for you. Your wife could cheat on you or leave you in the lurch without so much as a pot to piss in. Your child could become a murderer or an abuser and bring dishonour upon your name. A real man asserts his own greatness in the small amount of time he's given on this planet, only a parasitic, insecure failure would place that kind of burden upon their child or spouse and expect them to carry the weight. Some of the men who contributed the most to the development and advancement of the human race were bachelors and plenty of husbands and fathers live lives of quiet desperation and die forgotten and unloved. Nikola Tesla never had children or a wife and everyone remembers his name and achievements.

I'm in my early fifties, traveled the world serving in the US military having amazing adventures. Not married, never had kids. I have lived an amazing, purposeful, fulfilling life full of freedom and abundance. Kirk has been a key inspiration in my life choices, and I have no regrets.

This shows kirk vulnerability of his great fear of losing command of the woman he so loves and growing old alone. This is by far the best of the 6 movie ensembles!

False. Whales is pretty good, as is first contact, as is undiscovered country... voyage home is one of the most underrated movies ever made. Truly the best of times

Look at the set decoration. You just don't see that anymore. Every set these days looks like it's an IKEA catalog.

A shame that Admiral Kirk's friends didn't plan a surprise birthday party for him at his apartment before the Enterprise went on a training cruise.

McCoy is his friend. As is Spock. The rest are actually just people in his chain of command. It is what it is. It's lonely at the top.

I know they needed a sub-plot to add to the plot of the movie about Kirk feeling like he's getting old, and I love Star Trek and love this movie, but just to point something out, according to this movie, Kirk was turning 50 on his birthday. My point of this is how can Kirk be feeling "old" at 50 when in the 23rd century living to over 100 years old is commonplace? So, with that being a factor in the Star Trek universe, shouldn't 50 be sort of like the "new" 20, or maybe 30? I mean in the first episode of The Next Generation when McCoy is talking with Data, Data reveals McCoys age to be 137 years old! So someone at 50 years old should be considered a "youngin'" yet wouldn't you think?

This is one of the several reasons WOK is actually one of my least favourite Trek films. That, weird silly dialogue about hairstyles and shit.

Tell someone turning 30 that they're actually young. Are you new here?
@poetink
@poetink Жыл бұрын
@@JetEngine787 No, I'm not new here but I'm actually 52 years old and wish I WAS 30 again LOL Any one I see who's 30 is a kid to me. But that's by today's standards. I'm referring to the Star Trek lore where it's commonplace for someone to live a healthy life way passed 100 years old. So being 50 in that universe should be like a spring chicken yet.

@@poetink I think that's the point: someone turning 30 today IS still very young. If they're lucky they might have another 60 years or more ahead of them. But in that moment, many turning 30 _feel_ like they're 'leaving youth behind.' It's emotional rather than logical. Kirk here is turning a mere 50 years old, still very young in his era, but as Bones points out, it's not really about the years. He isn't old. He's just "feeling old" because he's stuck behind a desk instead of out exploring the galaxy, doing the job he loves. Bones is trying to snap him out of it.

Picard was actually seven years older being born in 2305 and taking command in 2364 vs kirk being born in 2233 and the wrath of khan taking place in 2285. Also you have to consider next GEN taking place 80 years in the future with advancements.in medicine.
