Unfortunately, young Anton Yelchin who plays young Pavil Chekov in this trilogy, was tragically killed in a freak accident shortly before Beyond was released. He had come home to his California home in his Jeep, jumped out to check the mail at the end of the driveway. His Jeep rolled downhill and pinned him to the concrete mailbox. So tragic. I loved his innocence as young Chekov. RIP.

One of Spock’s best features is that he’s snarky. It’s totally illogical but he comes off in his own way where people don’t question it, and it’s hilarious. It’s true of the classic Trek Spock as well as this new version.

I give JJ Abrams props for his spin on the red shirt jinx in this movie. Every Trekkie knows a red shirt means “Ensign Expendable.” In this film, you’ll notice in almost every scene, even though he doesn’t wear the shirt, Kirk is surrounded by red in some form (whether it’s a light, a shirt, or the wounds on his face). Solid foreshadowing.

As a Trek nerd, I can't stand how hated this new series is. I love that its a new series for a new generation. Since this series takes place in a diffrent timeline, it is canon. So people just gotta accept its Trek. If you like the other timeline more, thats fine. If you like this one more, thats fine too. Me? I like them both. But I love this new timeline much more. Now.... canon wise obviously the Trek tv shows are better of course. But going by movies online, not so much.

The movie is stupid and makes no sense. Also doesn’t fit in STAR TREK lore... plus it’s “cringe” as the kids say. I never thought STAR TREK should have been rebooted but the first movie in the first ten minutes was wonderful. Then slowly started losing me with ludicrous stuff. They changed the characters too much especially Spock who was overly emotional and had an inappropriate relationship with his student Uhura and Quinto played him too psychotic, angry and gay.

I believe that when we found Khan in exile in Wrath of Khan, that he was there due to be apprehended by Kirk and so had an intense desire for revenge on Kirk. But, as you say, this timeline is different, so this is either before that would have happened or perhaps the exile by Kirk never happens in this timeline. Khan's thirst for revenge has not changed though.
@Helbore
@Helbore 2 жыл бұрын
Khan first appeared in the original TV series, where the Enterprise finds an old spaceship full of cryogenically frozen humans. Its only after they revive them that Khan tries to steal the Enterprise and when that fails, Kirk maroons him on Ceti Alpha 5 as punishment. It was supposed to be a harsh, but livable world and Khan was initially ok with this as punishment, as he's all about survival of the fittest. But as he mentions in Wrath of Khan, the neighbouring planet exploded six months after they were left there and the planet they were on was laid waste. Khan was pissy because Kirk never bothered to check up on them and many of his crew died because of it. This is why Khan's crew are all in cryotubes in Into Darkness. Due to the change in the timelines, Marcus found Khan's ship instead of Kirk and revived Khan to be his little worker. Hence why Khan's ire was all aimed at Marcus in this film instead of at Kirk.

The set for the outside of the warp core, isn't actually a set. That's the National Ignition Facility at Lawrence Livermore National Labs. Where they are using the most powerful laser in the world to work on fusion reactions. Simon Pegg pulled the greatest prank here that involved the entire cast, the whole crew and even the scientists at the facility. He convinced Cumberbatch that they had to put on special "neutron cream" every day to pull the neutron radiation out of them. The makeup people even labeled a pot of just neutral cream colored makeup as neutron cream and would dab it on everyones faces in a dot pattern. JJ Abrams got involved. The scientists would lead the cast in special exercises to get the neutrons out. They had him believing it so much he would go around and make sure everyone had their cream on. There are videos floating around youtube of it.

Recently added this trilogy to my dvd/blue ray collection. I grew up watching the original Star Trek tv series. They have certainly taken this franchise to where no man has gone before. GREAT reactions from you as always 🖒🖒 Will search for you in Beyond!

I grew up first watching re-runs of the original series in the 80's as a little kid with my Mother. It was her way of exposing me to things like inclusivity, selflessness, and what people can accomplish if they work together. I've now seen virtually everything Star Trek that there is to see, and I know I'm a better person for it. There aren't many modern pieces of entertainment we can say that about.

11:07 I remember when I first saw this scene just this scene (I wasn't really paying attention to the movie, I watched it a few years after that and loved it) with my dad in the living room, when that ring exploded I just hear my dad say "holy shit!" I thought to myself like "ummm . . .", ah good times, good times

I am a Star Trek fan but not as much as Star Wars. But I do know how hated this trilogy is. I think this trilogy is pretty amazing, and I think it is cool to see a alternate timeline. I am a fan of the originals, and these movies do there own thing.

I honestly don’t understand the hate. These are wonderful films. I was born in ‘68 & grew up watching reruns of the series and movies. I feel this is probably the best reboot that’s been done. It’s a fantastic homage to the original series. Die hard Trek fans were never going to be happy, no matter what direction the movies took. They would always find a reason to be dissatisfied with them, which I think is sad.

When it comes to if another will be made, the short answer is that we don’t really know. Every month there is a new rumor about the next one being created or cancelled. But what we do know is that it will be a while before a new one comes out

It was Kirk who originally put Khan on that planet. Was in an episode of the old 60's tv show. The vengeance is about as big to this Enterprise as the Enterprise D (from The Next Generation) would be to the original Enterprise. Khan is basically a super soldier like Captain America.

The action, effects, music and sound were great, but for me the plot and characters destroy it. Kirk pretty much only makes terrible decisions but everyone acts like he's great because he's the protagonist. Also, Kirk repeatedly beating an unarmed man he just arrested? Not a good look. Khan's scheme makes no sense if you think about it after watching the movie and he was so much less interesting here than in Wrath of Khan. In the original, Klingons had their own culture and nuance but here they're just mindless orks. And Spock loses his entire character and just goes berserker until he finds out Khan's magical miracle blood cures death. It's just all so lazy. It would be fine for a Fast and Furious movie I guess, but I'd expect more from a Star Trek movie.

They originally wanted Benicio Del Toro to play Khan, but he wanted more money than they could give. Would have been interesting since Benicio does crazy like no one else. Cumberbatch did a good job, but I wish they had simply left as Harrison & not Khan. This is a divisive film, but I enjoyed it despite any failing's others have with it.

I was so angry over Marcus in this movie, he murdered so many crews. Really a good villain, also he played the villain character Paxton on Enterprise series. It was a good villain too. Peter Weller's acting is phenomenal, his evilness really get to your skin.
