You noticed McCoy was respectful. He knows better than to piss off an Andorian .
@Starshipsforever5 ай бұрын
Or he has a completely different outlook on Thelin since both would be on the same page on many subjects. Unlike with Spock, McCoy can likely drag Thelin off for some good rounds of drinking in a bar or go on bar hops together. Another thing also needs to be considered: there were many moments were Spock and McCoy were respectful and professional to one another. This just may be one time where they were.

Actually, the original Thelin's gray complexion may have a logical explanation. In "Enterprise" we were introduced to the Aenar, a subspecies of Andorians who were gray, rather than blue. We may speculate from that.

The Aenar are blind, although he may be an Aenar/Andorian mix. Also TOS Andorians are all a lot less blue than Enterprise Andorians.

My pleasure! I have always loved the episode "Yesteryear" and thought that the idea of an Andorian as first officer in a parallel universe was wild. It meant that in that universe, Thelin took part in all of those adventures with Kirk and McCoy depicted in the live-action STAR TREK series and movies instead of Spock.

Thelin of Spock's universe appeared as a navigator on the USS Farragut in the animated episodes of that excellent fan series. However, he was represented with grey skin. In the originally aired and VHS release of the animated episode "Yesteryear," Thelin was erroneously shown with flesh-colored skin. In the remastered animated episode as released on DVD in 2006, Thelin's skin was oddly "fixed" to be grey. I made Thelin's skin to be blue like all Andorians seen in TOS and most of Star Trek: Enterprise. The grey-skinned Navigator Thelin on the USS Farragut was I believe supposed to be a member of the related species of Andorians called the Aenar who were depicted as essentially albinos with no pigmentation and pale white skin.

Logic is not owned by any race. "Commander" is a rank given to all captains while on-board a ship, a ship has only one Captain who may be of any rank.
@rsacchi1007 ай бұрын
Commander and captain have dual uses. They can refer to a position, such as the captain of a ship or a commander of a unit. It can also refer to the naval ranks of Commander and Captain (O-5 & O-6) in the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard. There are also Captains (O-3) in the U.S. Army, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Space Force. Yes, other organizations use the rank of captain as well.

I guess Spock is taking a vacation, so Thelin is filling in? It would be interesting to make him more unique. I would think that Andorians would be akin to Romulans and Klingons (due to their warrior history) and attribute "logic" to "honor". Maybe Thelin says "It is only honorable" to differentiate him from Spock?

Rewatch the video. The explanation of Thelin's presence is explained in the introductory narration. Spock is not on vacation, he doesn't exist in that universe.

But hypocrisy isn't a logical fallacy. In fact, the Appeal to Hypocrisy is a logical fallacy (ie. accusing someone of hypocrisy, is a logical fallacy.) We all know what hypocrisy is: when someone states a position, yet personally fails to honor the very position they state. For example a politician accusing his opponent of accepting gifts from lobbyists -- while he himself is guilty of the same thing. Everyone is aware of the hypocrisy charge -- they call each other hypocrites all the time. The problem is it doesn't address the argument itself -- and therefore the charge itself is the logical fallacy. Imagine for instance, Politician A says we need to get money out of politics. Politician B then says, "that's rich coming from you, who accepted money from megadonors for your campaign. You are a hypocrite." Yes, true, Mr. A is a hypocrite. But then what? Politician B succeeded in making A "look bad" and therefore made himself appear to "win." But THAT is the logical fallacy. His attack on Politician A's character, did not address Politician A's stated argument that money should be taken out of politics. This recognition of what Politician B did -- distracted from addressing the argued position, by pointing at the arguer's character flaws -- is known as the Tu Quoque fallacy (or "You Too" or Appeal to Hypocrisy). It is a specific form of Ad Hominem. Ad Hominem is when one attacks someone's character instead of addressing the argument.
