For me, Olly feels neurodivergent to me. And just so you have the context here, I have ADHD and in the past (especially as a teen) I did a lot of masking and some of her behaviour and story arc made me think of that. Olly came across to me as someone who was masking. For me growing up, no matter how hard I tried to mask my ADHD, it still had a way of coming out (much like Olly’s powers). Olly’s journey of self acceptance in this episode really spoke to me.

This isn't my favorite episode in terms of story but for comedy, this is the best in the season for me. In particular Boimler's pose after his injury and the 'ice a cube' line stand out in my brain. And I didn't notice as many moments where the characters feel like star trek fans rather than people in the star trek world other than Mariner instantly name dropping Kirk from the episode the demigod ensign is inspired by.

16:54 The "female" sphere was voiced by T'Lyn VA Gabrielle Ruiz. "Her" line of 'Don't...give...him...juice' was probably the most obvious bit of dialogue highlighting it was Gabrielle, since it was very T'Lyn in its delivery.

This episode proves you really can fit a square peg in a circular hole, if you know what I mean. Laughed a ton at this one, particularly Eugene Cordero's delivery on, "You got a nickname! Fucko!" I also liked the bit about the cubes objecting to article 10 of the peace treaty because the zero was too round. It's good to have something to laugh at for a few more weeks. Starting to feel like we've actually been in the mirror universe timeline all along.
@yza5168Ай бұрын
honestly that cube ejaculate is practically a work of art. you could call the style cubejism but as for boimler, since episode 1 of this season i've had a suspicion. i think maybe mirror boimler is no, in fact, bradward boimler. what if he's our william boimler? last we saw him he joined section 31 but that was never followed up on. section 31 could be behind the portal stuff doing black ops into other universes or something. in 5.01 when he takes command of mirroritos he gets off his chair using the riker manuveur. also that beard is a little riker-esque, right? having bradward unknowingly trying to copy his own transporter clone would be a cool twist. even better when it turns out that this more successful boimler who got what he wanted in season 2 joining the titan actually went down a really dark path. there's something there, i think. it's not just an au boimler, but a man he could have become if he didn't by chance get sent back to the ceritos. mirror boims is casting a pretty big shadow over this season, after all.

I remember learning-before _Lower Decks_ was announced, and as a fan of her from the X-Men days-that Rebecca Romjin was married to Jerry O'Connell, and my reaction was: *_"Him?!"_* but after seeing the warmth, humor and affection he infuses into Ransom's character (and also the *super sweet* Easter egg lines like him "admiring" Boimler's Una Chin-Riley poster), I'm rooting for their relationship (as much as it's healthy to Stan any celebrity marriage).

I think there's a treatment of this arc where Alternate Boimler served as a positive role model for Prime Boimler, and there was this honest evaluation from our Boims of "Hey, I'm stuck in a rut, I just met my best possible self-let's take inspiration from that and realize the ways I'm getting in my own way that AB overcame." But this was not that.

I love that the solution in the end turned out _not_ to be "You gotta be what you were _born_ to be; embrace your inherited identity." Instead, Olly saved the day by _being an engineer_ - the thing that everyone told her she couldn't be. That being said, a minor lesson in Olly's arc was also, "Don't try to deny or suppress your heredity. You can't get to where you want to be, if you won't acknowledge where you are now." If she hadn't tried to hide her powers, those electrical surges could have been accommodated and compensated for - but because she hid it, she earned a false reputation as a bad engineer, even to the point of being transferred out of Engineering for being "a menace". This episode kinda tries to put the much-loved plot line "Starfleet must mediate between two groups that just plain hate each other for no good reason," to bed, by reducing it to its platonic ideal - _literally._

This episode gave me some of the best laughs of the season so far. I don't usually laugh a lot when watching stuff by myself, so that's really something. I just found the whole concept of cubes and spheres floating around really funny, I totally lost it when they were drained of energy and could just bump into one another, also the joke with both Rutherford and Tendi not noticing that the padd is red was just so perfectly delivered, and I could go on. So while this episode didn't quite land with me on an emotional level like some others did, and I found the new character somewhat irritating, I really loved the humour.

I hope to see a V'tash Ka'tur actually in Starfleet. Lower Decks is the perfect setting for treating the idea much better than the episode of Enterprise that first gave us the Vulcan word for people like Spock and Sybok. Enterprise just straight up ended the episode by saying that because 1 of them had control issues that he was wrong to not be practicing Vulcan Logic. What he did to T'Pol was wrong. That says nothing about whether he was right or wrong to not submit to Vulcan stoicism. We definitely need to see more of the cultural differences between different sects and even non-believers.
