To be fair, Enterprise has plot armor and Shinzon was trying to take Picard alive. NPC's dying to prove how powerful the bad guy is while not threatening the actual heroes is a classic trope. The Valdore class were a bit light on defenses in comparison to the Sovereign class, though - they were more aggressive ships, probably filling the role of interceptor, I would guess. Shinzon also may have had a better idea where to hit them since I assume his team had access to basically all Romulan ship building data while making his doom ship.

2:05 Warp core goes offline. Not only does it enable warp drive but provides the lion's share of the power to all the ship's systems, including shields and weapons. So both were much reduced in strength for the whole battle.
@Freddie19802 жыл бұрын
The warp isn't the power source though it's the mechanism that controls the matter and anti matter explosions and needed to maintain warp travel. After they come out of warp the energy can be redirected to where it's needed.
@Sovereign012 жыл бұрын
@@Freddie1980 Actually, it is. It's referred to as warp power and could be applied to other systems, in this case the shields and phasers. When the warp core went offline, that source of power was no longer available. Against a ship like the Scimitar that proved to be very costly.
@DayneTreader2 жыл бұрын
@@Freddie1980 The warp core was taken offline by the Scimitar's weapons fire. That's why the ship came out of warp in the first place. If the warp core is offline then that means the matter-antimatter reaction was interrupted by damage or interrupted by a failsafe triggered by other damage. Without that reaction, there is only the fusion reactors' power generation, which is probably an order of magnitude less than the warp core's.

I don't see the hate of this movie. I liked it. I didn't like that Data had to die, but I totally understand the reason why he had to. If you really want to know, Data was more human than he could have ever been. He sacrificed himself, for his fellow friends, and crew so that they would live on. I'm pretty sure Data would go on in memory, and truly never be forgotten.
@meiray2 жыл бұрын
The script and pacing. Data dying isn't my issue, but it's surrounded by tired Trek tropes and half-baked ideas. Shinzon is played with verve but poorly fleshed out on paper - those scenes with Picard should sizzle, but they are all so very flat. The Romulan characters are dull as dirt. B-4 as an idea is not up to snuff. The dialogue has no zing to it. Troi's mind rape and payback is just a rehash of things the franchise did before. The space battle is exciting at times but also derivative of The Undiscovered Country, full of technobabble and shield percentage warnings, and the kamikaze run is somewhat non-sensical. The budget is stretched to its limits in many places. What little humor there is feels forced. The Remans are style over substance. The villainous plot to destroy Earth is not interesting. It's always nice to see the cast together, but this just felt tired and the action often was very tacked on, and the only thing the director and John Logan were really into. Logan in particular is just not a good fit for genre fare. You look at his resumé and all the really great work is not his sci-fi, horror or fantasy. He's a big fan of TNG, but he couldn't come up with a really fun story. Contrast that with how Picard Season 3 is shaping up and it's just night and day how much better the show is approaching a cast reunion versus Nemesis. IMO of course.

Yes and the Romulans, although known to build tactically dominant ships, have a long history of building inefficient and glitchy propulsion systems. Having a ship that can travel a Prometheus speeds would constitute a quantum leap in propulsion technology for a civilization who, in short years past, had to sacrifice ships just to keep up with a Galaxy class ship. Nemesis is such a criminally underrated movie. I absolutely loved it then and still do. Yeah I can definitely critique it scene by scene but I still love the movie. Certain parts were definitely stupid. Data flying across space and being so well placed to find a unlocked door on the Schimitar. Simply turn off or disconnect the magnetic containment field? Don't get me started on how easy it is to overthrow the Romulan Star Empire. Then the "clone" of Picard.... I went to see Nemesis opening day at the old Magic Johnson Theaters at the Baldwin Hills Plaza, I've seen the movie countless times since, and I have NEVER understood why is it hated so much. been saying for decades that everything should be a much igher framerate, the stuttering shit and blur when anything moves or pans is awful in films. This is great being able to not only see things move naturally around without juddering like some console game but you lose no detail either

@setsuna20011 ай бұрын
The Enterprise ramming into the Scimitar was not CG. That was two physical models of the ships actually used for that scene. The part that was cg was the part where we see the missing section of Enterprise E. But all of that part was practical effects. They built a separate model of the Scimitars hangar bay as well too for that scene.

The problem I always had with the battle scene at 2:35 is that it indicates the photon torpedoes are unguided, which of course we know is incorrect.

@@TheSighphiguy right, once the ship is cloaked, but in that scene we can see that the phasers had disrupted the cloak. I realize that this movie is an entertainment vehicle, and not supposed to make complete sense, but sometimes the inconsistencies are annoying 😉

@@jim2lane I get where you're coming from. I recently realized that, despite spending millions of dollars to make a movie, it's evidently uncommon to pay an intelligent person to review and revise the finalized product before release. In my head, I'm imagining the Scimitar has some Romulan prototype jammer. Maybe there was an explanation in a scene that was cut for time?
@lukedavidrobinson Жыл бұрын
@@hanrockabrand95 My theory is that because the Scimitar was mostly cloaked, the torpedoes were probably aimed manually, or coordinated to launch when the phasers make contact but they probably couldn't track the Scimitar once launched.

@@Darth1Marik it wasn’t specifically, but do you actually think among the thousands of species they assimilated over centuries, that there were no cloaking technologies? And even if that were the case, they have assimilated Klingon and Romulan tech (which is canon), so they have it.
@Darth1Marik2 жыл бұрын
@@xamalion7334 thing is most species that have cloak tech have escaped the Borg and those that didn't destroyed their tech before assimilation. I don't recall in lore that even though they have assimilated Klingon and Romulan technology that cloaking technology was not specified among it. We can assume yes but as far as Borg efficiency goes I would think they'd use cloak. Imagine how many species run or get away upon seeing Borg ships. The Borg can ambush them to where they can't escape. Also while not specifically canon a mission in Star Trek Online where you affect the timeline to where Romulus never was destroyed but caused the Borg to advance on Romulan space and assimilate their technology. When you arrive Borg ships decloak.

I projected this in a Multiplex, and there were only handfuls of people to watch it and sometimes only one or two. In fact, we had to cancel the showing if it was so small because the electrical usage costs more than the screening made. First Contact was much more popular.
