@@vincentjay7429I mean, it's subjective. I find your examples pretty far from heartbreaking, as well. Watanabe on the swing in Ikiru, when the turtle swims off at the end of The Red Turtle, Wade calling for his mother in Saving Private Ryan, Kirin Kiki thinking a butterfly is her reincarnated son in Still Walking. These are all more WAY emotionally impactful to me, but someone else would maybe be completely dry-eyed watching these scenes. It isn't a contest. We all have our reasons for reacting the way we do.

Yeah I keep going back and forth with him, but in a good way. There's a nuance to his character that keeps him from being one note. My issue with him now, especially in this scene, is that he feels too indecisive when things take a turn towards things he doesn't expect. It takes three people to tell him to run while he's standing there like a deer in the headlights. Not bad writing at all, and given the situation it's understandable he's shook. But I'm just like, c'mon you're a Starfleet Captain. You can't freeze up everytime weird stuff happens.

When we first come across him he's all business and all about the rules and regulations. Posterboy for Starfleet. Then things go sideways and he has Picard, Riker and Seven to say to him "There's a time and a place for that. Now is not the time or the place." Because they all lived it, learned it and that's why they're legends.

Something that just dawned on me when rewatching the scene with Jack. We now know that the red door represents his connection to the Borg, and for that brief moment when the door fully opened his resistance broke and the Queen temporarily took over. It was the Queen, through that connection, that killed the four Changelings, thinking they were Starfleet officers keeping Jack from leaving the Titan to seek her out.

The Borg Queen also said that she considered the changelings and Vadic expendable. In this moment where Jack takes the ensign's weapon we know from the red color of the shots that it is set to kill. The Queen obviously wants Jack taken alive, but if it came down to him or the changelings in a life-or-death situation, she'd choose Jack. She allowed him to tap into his abilities to survive this encounter.

For those wondering why the Intrepid is still in good shape, Ro intentionally targeted the nacelle so as to cripple its ability to pursue the Titan but not harm the crew that aren't changelings. For those wondering why the Titan had to power up her warp core, the Intrepid ordered the Titan to power down when it arrived. For those wondering how the Intrepid beamed changelings onto the Titan when both ships' shields were up, it becomes easier if you have some kind of mobile pattern enhancers, so maybe they had something like that built into their combadges.

Pattern enhancers won't let you beam through shields but knowing the shield frequency of the ship would. Pattern enhancers are amplifiers to cut through interference and background noise. Shields aren't interference but active energy dissipation, absorption or deflection. That means that you either have to drop the shield or have the exact harmonic frequency to negate the shield. Changeling infiltrators could get that information easily.

The Changelings have to have access to Starfleet Command Codes, likely Admiral-level access allows them to bypass internal security aboard a Starfleet vessel. What is actually disturbing here is that Jack Crusher took on four Changelings in hand-to-hand combat with a phaser he took off of one of them-and killed them all without a scratch. Then that door he is glimpsing appears in Reality and he seems to have to force it away... Methinks Jack Crusher may have been born Human, but he either is or is becoming something else.

my suspicion is that Starfleet Intelligence got word of the rogue Changeling faction that splintered off from the Founders' homeworld ... and did whatever was done to Jack Crusher to neutralize them. The fact that he killed four of them in ten seconds flat would show that (if I'm right about this much) that part was absurdly successful. I'm also suspecting that the Changelings (upon infiltration of Starfleet) found out about Jack, and are hell bent on using Jack Crusher as a weapon against those who created it in the first place ... wouldn't be the first show to do such a thing. hell, the Changelings' infiltration of Starfleet could very well be DUE to Jack Crusher himself. creating a weapon like that would reach pretty high in Starfleet's rank-and-file, especially since the data that Ro obtained (and died passing along to Picard) from Daystrom was highly redacted.

Shapeshifting, red vines in visions, potentionally telepathic, and willing to sacrifice own people all the time... That thing that gave Vadic orders didn't look like a Founder AT ALL... doesn't sound like the Changelings either. It does, however, look like - and sound like a lot like Species 8472. They definitely have a reason to resume their Starfleet infiltration plans now that the Borg have provisional membership in the Federation. Much higher skill at impersonation thanks to telepathy. Also... I'm fairly sure that the Borg nanite infused torpedoes would be stored at Daystrom.

The number one rule for any spy series is that a spy is never confirmed to have died until you have seen their body - sometimes not even then. Ro Laren is a high-ranking Starfleet Intelligence officer who has faced this situation multiple times. I'm sure she knows how to fake her death and escape undetected. Plus there are rumors Paramount is looking for a new lead for the upcoming "Section 31" series to replace Michelle Yeoh. Given her significant sci-fi resume, Forbes would've been a prime candidate for it. Then again she had a long track record of turning down previous Trek cast roles (DS9 and VOY) and had her character killed off in their prime (Admiral Cain in BSG).

The showrunner Terry Matalas told in an interview that they considered Ro Laren to have survived the explosion by having been beamed off the shuttle on the Intrepid and that in another scene Picard would've freed her and Tuvoc from the brig. In the end, it was not done officially for time and budget reasons. But it would've cheapened Ro's sacrifice.

I'm surprised when the shuttle collided the entire ship didn't experience warp core failure. When the Ent-D collided with the Bozeman coming out of that time displacement, she experienced a warp core collapse and explosion. This would be very similar.
@MarieaMcMinnar
@MarieaMcMinnar 4 ай бұрын
Interesting point. I have a theory on that though. Shuttles are much smaller than the Bozeman, so it's possible for creating much less of an impact. Strong enough to cripple the her but that's all. Now the full length nacelles of two capital ships going at cruising speeds might've had a bigger impact leading to cascade failure.( Plus take into note the anomaly could've messed with the situation more.) Think like a tugboat ramming a slow moving destroyer vs two destroyers colliding at cruising speeds in turbulent wanters.

Does anyone else find it odd, that the Changleings when confronting Jack, were respectful while holding a phaser to him? It seems odd to me they'd be respectful and tell what they're doing with someone they're obviously terrified of. And the whole mess with Vadic, they are desperate to get him for some reason without harm. I wonder if its related to the Changleings being more "fleshy" now than before.

@@Bitchslapper316 well there's all the wild theories, and I try to come up with something original 😆 The whole Locutis nanites could be it to, especially with him having nightmares since a child, or a combination of the two. Him seeing the red tree roots on people in the transporter room as their transporting could be a clue to. The rogue Changleings could also be turning Starfleet personnel into Changleings, which would explain why they seem to be everywhere for a supposedly small faction that left the Great Link. Them being so different fits that idea, and the Dominion were experts on genetic engineering... In the past, they couldn't stand to lose one of their own, now they don't care. Which was another oddity that stuck out to me, along with them not being gelatinous any more. There's gotta be a reason for those differences, because unlike all other modern Trek, whoever's writing this season of Pucard is showing an incredible amount of respect for the show in the past, so it would make no sense for them to change the Changleings without reason.
