Episode: Vignette 2
Title: "No Win Scenario"
Length: 0:09:05
Release date: 08.10.2011
Stardate: Unknown
Writer: Erik Korngold
Director: Erik Goodrich
English Subs: IISisko and Peter Walker
German Subs: Stephan Mittelstrass
Plot:
After being pitted against Kirk in a Klingon version of the "no-win scenario," Kargh would hunger for the day when he and Kirk would meet for real. His hunger is soon satisfied!
Starring John Carrigan, Anne Carrigan and James Cawley, the vignette features appearances by Larry Nemecek, Jeff Quinn, Julienne Irons, Andy Bray, and Paul R. Sieber. Written by Erik Korngold, directed by Erik J. Goodrich, and with updated VFX by Pony R. Horton and Tobias Richter of The Light Works,
Originally filmed in 2005, this vignette is only made available to fans due to the stalwart perseverance of John Carrigan, with assistance from Graham O'Hare, and Pony R. Horton. John tracked down the original lost footage and made sure scenes that required re-shoots or pickups were done during various other Phase II shoots over time. Post production was supervised rigorously by John and completed in the United Kingdom.
Presented as a surprise birthday gift from John Carrigan to James Cawley on set in June 2011, it is now available for fans to enjoy this historic look back at what was then "Star Trek: New Voyages"!

Well, I guess even the Klingons have their own Kobayashi Maru simulation. But I love the part where Kirk tosses a random tribble. I guess this is probably actually how they proliferated all over the Empire, as Worf explained to Odo. lol!

It's probably a given that any spacefaring Empire would have their own no-win scenario for prospective commanders to face. It's a good way to properly vet perspective commanders to be sure they would do their job under pressure.

I truly do not understand. Not many things are as harmless in the universe as a tribble, especially plopped down in a situation like that. If the tribble didn't starve to death, and manages to reproduce, the worst it can do is create a pile that might slowly suffocate the dude. But why the screaming?

@@AmosPressley It was just for comedic effect. Even in the original series (S02E13 The Trouble with Tribbles), Scotty and Spock transported the tribbles aboard the Klingon ship to mess with them (and also to get rid of their evergrowing numbers on the Enterprise). So in this final scene we saw the tied-up Klingon having a "not again" moment.

Maybe you can explain then. Why was the guy so terrorized by a tribble?

... except made no sense. if he had a tribble in his cloak it would have been losing its mind by the fire and given him away instantly.

@@jv-lk7bc …if he was half human, or some other alien people, and also Klingon then he might not have been effected until later on….. doesn’t this happen to those who are allergic to one type of allergen compounds or other and taking meds for it until it wears off? Only explanation I can think of.

@@AmosPressley …. I will do my best ….lol. Klingons are warriors, thus as big as warriors as they are, they may have a fear and a weakness towards Tribbles whom in the past may have occupied areas on their planet and wreaked havoc with the Klingon populations by consuming their food resources, remember how fast they multiplied on the USS Enterprise 1701 after being aboard for only a short time period, consuming the new grains slated for various colonies on various planets? The only reason they found out about the grain being poisoned was with the Tribbles and their appetites for devouring it. The Tribbles may have also caused passing certain diseases not affected by other races of alien civilizations/colonies, etc. This would definitely cause anxiety and fear to happen among them. Maybe this is a reasonable exclamation or not , but something upsets the Klingons when they encounter them. Or it might be that they are so lovable they can’t stand it….lmao.

Great, but two modest clarifications: 1) Klingons aren't scared of tribbles, just annoyed by them. 2) To left should be replaced with 'starboard'.

STP2, I'd like to preface by saying I am a 48yr old fan of TOS. I was watching the series first run, and subsequent syndication from 1972 to present. I have watched all of your full length episodes, and am 100% impressed at the care you have taken in each!! every last detail I see IS TOS! The acting is improving, and the screenplay as well. I noticed you film in NY?? I am on Long Island, and currently a comm/media major, could I become involved, if looking for intern/volunteers?

My father said i should go back and watch some of the first episodes casue there might have been something i missed, i told him i already seen it all . Now i think that i was wrong, after seeing this scene, now i know i actualy should go back and watch it again. Where in the series does this lost footage actually come from? we know it has to be before episode 8 the Kitumba, i never knew that Khargh was in more than one New voyages episodes besides number eight. so which episode is this footage meant to be from?

I've never seen the "New Voyages" before so I wanted to start in Chronological order... but WTF was this?!? I'm looking for like "this is how you should watch the show" order, I'm really hoping there's some back story in an episode that eventually explains this weirdness. Not that it wasn't still cool, but what the heck...
