It bugs me how weak and common cubes are in this game. IMHO full-size cubes should have been reserved as bosses for co-op missions. Buff up some smaller Borg ships to fill the gap of common enemies.

Staying away from the Discovery Arc is advisable. I played it and instead of smart narrative it's overblown melodrama. Oh, and they bring Stammets back to life by combining spores with a mobile Holo emitter. It's just space magic designed to cover for those who can't write a Star Trek story which means we'll never see 'A measure of a man' or 'Drumhead' ever again.

As someone that has had a LOT of STO experience, I love seeing you as a returning "new player" and all of your "Whoa! This is different!" When you get the chance, open up the map again, and in the top left you can actually move to a larger galaxy map, and see all of the different zones. You currently only saw Beta Quadrant.

@@MrJay_White I found it a decently playable FTP honestly, there was nothing forcing you to spend money for content and I am pretty sure if I put more time in I could do well in even elite level encounters.

​@@MrJay_White It still is. While you can occasionally get a ship for free through the events, you primarily need Zen (Cryptic store currency) to get many of the ships. You can trade refined dilithium for Zen in the Zen exchanged, but it has been stuck at the max of 500 refined dil for 1 zen for the last several weeks and it doesn't appear to be going down. The exchange is player controlled and it appears the price is not going down anytime soon. To give you an idea of why that is a lot, most individual ships cost about 2K - 3k Zen (buying the bundles makes them a bit cheaper). Each character a player has can refine 8k - 9k dil per day (depending if you are in a fleet and/or a subscriber). To purchase just one 2k Zen ship would currently cost you 1 million refined dil. You can of course purchase Zen for real money to avoid all the effort. Does this mean you shouldn't invest into zen or refine dil...nope. I'm still playing, sitting on about 3 mil refined dil until I feel like trading it in. But I have the ship(s) I want, so for me its just others I want in my collection.

@@MrJay_White Oh, you definitely can't do competitive pvp or do world record damage without spending large amounts of money but the story missions are a good 100 hours of content that you can do just fine free to play. I played it mostly because I am a star trek nerd and IMHO it really did a good job of setting up that star trek atmosphere though I stopped playing when I ran out of story content, I think I will pick it back up for a little while now since I think they released more klingon civil war stuff.

The Chimera class was the first Veteran's reward ship they did, you had to have an active account for 1000 days. Fortunately it was an account unlock so all characters got to play with their factions veteran ships. What made them cool at the time was their transformation gimmick, they could switch to an assault mode that changed their stats and activated a Lotus weapon that fired multiple blasts at enemies in range. The weapon was faction specific so Feds got a Phaser Lotus, KDF got a Disruptor, Romulans were Plasma. I still remember when the notification popped, my reaction was between "AWESOME" and "How have I been playing this game that damn long?!"

hey Shack, I have been playing this game for about 9 years now. There has been a substantial amount of model updates to ships, weapons, maps, pretty much everything. Lots more updates coming but the Miranda did get a model update this year alongside a few of the other ships of the Fleets (Federation, Klingon and Romulan).

One does not need to have the rank of captain to be the captain of a ship. Even in todays navies an ensign could be the captain of a ship. Typically, it is a way to give the enlisted people that want to get into a command position some experience commanding a ship. They are usually given command of a patrol boat or something that is not all that relevant to their operations, but with enough responsibility to give the "captain" a taste of command. However in an emergency situation they can also be given command of the ship they were already serving on, it is easier for subordinates to take orders from a familiar person over a stranger in such situations.

pro tip: you turn faster when your impulse speed is lower, the faster you go, the slower you turn. the energy in subsystems of course also plays a role in how fast your ship will go, but slowing to half impulse to make a sharp turn and speeding up again after the turn helps a lot.

when you get a T6 star ship( which cost the in game currency known as Zen) I think there is a Miranda class T6, so if you want to keep the original U.S.S. Extra Parts you can, unless you want carry on the legacy of the name on a new ship or ship with different name. just so you know Zen cost money to get, but there is an in game way to get it it just takes much longer to get that way.

Not sure if your using your High yeld torpedos on ships when the shields are down or not, but this is when you get one shot kills when the ships have a decent amount damage.

Yup honestly STO for most of its existence has been the prize of the series story wise since the end of nemesis...until they had to force the disco stuff into the game....i think they mostly made it work... though they aren't miracle workers

Pro tip power lvls effect energy weapons damage. 50 In weapons is = to base weapon damage 100 is double damage 125 which is cap with out weapon cap boost is = to 2.5 x weapon damage. Shields will not Regen unless 50+ power in shields. Combat impulse does better at below 50 engine power. While hyper impulse does better at above 50 engine power. And impulse engine's run better at 50 power. kinetic weapon's such as torpedoes and mines do not use power for damage. But when one fires it puts the others into a shared cool down. All heals such as hull or shield heal use aux power as well as all science abilities.

STO spacebattles are really cool at the beginning, sadly lategame battles are far less tactical and simply result into spamming dozents of abilities. In lategame battles borg cubes explode in seconds, it's so much less fun. It's a real shame

It’s absolutely worth it. The game has improved so much since the first days. Ground combat is still kinda meh, but the space combat and exploration is great. The worlds are so beautiful too.

It's a fun game, even if the rinse and repeat nature of the missions does wear a bit thin by the time you're nearing max level. Just avoid the absolutely toxic pvp and you're fine.

Random statement, I wanted to get into the star trek tv shows to learn the lore, I started with Star Trek Enterprise, and according to chronological order the next is the Star trek with James T kirk, but I'm having I hard time finishing that one, cause of its pacing, I sometimes begin to lose interest during and episode even almost an entire season in

@@w_shakes_ Star Trek 1 - 6 are chronologically before TNG, i'd suggest watching them first. (7 - 10 are after TNG). Star Trek 1 is a super slow paced movie, great visuals and atmosphere but not really representative of what is to follow, so don't judge all of it by that one, if it is too slow for you, you can go straight to Star Trek 2 Wrath of Khan without missing anything essential. Optionally you can watch TOS S01E22 "Space Seed" before ST2 Wrath of Khan. The Movie works fine without it but there is some big tie-in stuff you may appreciate, especially with the huge jump in tone, pacing and quality from one to the other. TNG also starts slow, the pacing in the first 3 episodes at least is still super reminiscent of TOS pacing, but TNG gets much better over time and is absolutely worth sitting through the slow parts (even in the MEH episodes you still get character development). But you can go pretty much by the IMDB ratings which episodes are essential and which you can or even should skip if you feel like doing that.
