I admit, I shed a few tears of happiness seeing this number. We’ve seen dedication and the emotional connection each crew has to their respective ships/station, and it’s usually portrayed as solemn duty and quiet pride. What’s nice about this anomalous musical reality is that it shows how much the crew really does care for each other and how much proud they are to be on the crew of the Enterprise. Anson Mount’s Pike may be my favorite captain now… not only does he have such a unique arc knowing when and how he’s going to die and trying to make every day count, but I loved hearing him sing, “I’m so proud to be your Captain.”

After this episode, I kinda want a broadway musical now. It was proposed in the 90s but was scrapped after DS9's darker storylines got great ratings. And Scott Bakula has gone on record as saying that the next season of Enterprise would have featured a musical episode that most of the crew were on board with, but then the show got cancelled. Seems like a lot of people behind-the-scenes saw potential for a musical of some kind, injecting a bit of TOS energy into more serious Trek.

This is the episode (even more than 'Those Old Scientists') where the SNW showrunners demonstrated that they 'get it'. Star Trek is never going to be The Expanse or BSG, they contain a level of gravitas that simply is not Star Trek. Taking Roddenberry's love child in that direction takes it away from the pure fun of it's 60's television roots. The reboot movies & the gawdawful Discovery are pew-pew festivals targeting an audience that wasn't alive for TOS, and even the wildly popular DS9, takes itself way too seriously. But SNW strikes a balance that we haven't seen for 60 years. The Gorn are an existential threat, but episodes are interspersed with less dire entries. I was 12 years old when the original series aired, and SNW is the hard hit of nostagia I've been waiting for. I think Gene is looking down, pleased that someone finally understands.
@commenter48985 ай бұрын
For me the core of Star Trek is the philosophical questions, moral dilemmas, and progressive social commentary. I don't mind it going darker a la Babylon 5 or DS9. The problem I have with the Kelvin timeline, Discovery and Picard is that they don't use intelligent dialogue and arguments to convince us nor leave us interesting question to think about. They just tell us those are bad guys and resolve the conflict by shooting, punching, or decapitating.

So...😂 three things...Klingons singing is better than really any song out today, Sam Kirk grooving along with their melody, and Spocks, "not exactly" comment...this was a SUPER fun episode! 😊

The Sonar pinging sound after the Klingon’s K-Pop makes it a perfect “cricket sound” response from the Enterprise crew.

I like how during the Klingon bit everyone is just standing there like "OMG this is so awkward" and then there's Sam very very low key vibing to it xD

This may seem silly... I grew up with Star Trek The Original Series. The characters gave me such joy and sparked my imagination as I grew up. Now I am old, and the same characters will have new adventures until the day I die. How Blessed I am!

God, this is the most fun. I was a little worried about how a music episode was gonna work, but then I've seen Buffy the Vampire Slayer nail it in the past. This one also nails it. It's such a perfect way to delve into the characters and have them expressing stuff they'd never say otherwise and a great way to just have fun with Trek. Which is honestly the best thing you can do with Trek. Just take it, run with it and have a laugh along the way. Also, the Klingons trying so hard to restrain themselves and then breaking out into a boy band number anyway is hilarious. That moment will live in my head rent free for the rest of my life. I can only imagine Worf talking about it over a century later. "Only under a rare occasion would they speak of that event.The singing was a great shame upon their houses. They spend the remainder of their days striving to regain their lost honor."

Buffy did it better. There was more song variety and the songs were more integral to the plot.

I think this is the episode that made SNW finally overtake VOY as my most favorite Trek show. I just love how SNW manages to mix silly, serious, heartbreaking and mystery into a single show. All that I wish now is to have more episodes per season...

Anyone who disliked (let alone hated) this episode 1) has no soul, 2) don't understand Star Trek, and 3) have opinions not worth listening to in reference to Star Trek. This is not subjective; it is an objective truth.

As someone who has always loved both Star Trek and Musicals I absolutely love this . Also it’s fascinating, this is the first time any phenomenon has been attributed to people just singing in stories. One could say all musicals could be the result of this effect and it’s the origin! Intriguing…

This show did the impossible with this big "showstopper." They created a song that I legitimately will NEVER get tired of hearing in my head, or with my ears. I seriously want this to be the last song that I hear before I die, and I WILL make sure that it gets played multiple times at my funeral (hopefully in the FAR distant future). No joke there. Just truth. I love Star Trek that much!

@@WannabeMarsanach Wrong. Favorite is the correct way. You also forgot the ' in the word don't. You kids today are pathetic. However it is due to the fact that your education system sucks. Not your fault that you do not know proper English and how to spell it. You kids rely too much on spell checkers to do the work for you and therefore you do not have the ability to learn otherwise.
