The new version looks objectively better, no quarrel there. But somehow the analog-y feel of the old one is lost. I like the analog-y feel.

I'm pretty sure the blue in the nacelle was a compositing error - it was Earth, which is behind the nacelle, bleeding through.

Either that or maybe it looked like the nacelles were already powering up and getting ready to jump to warp speed when the Enterprise is still meant to be under maintenance at this point.

Wow, I didn’t realise how much had changed. I notice too that in all the recomposited shots during the tour of the Enterprise, the images of Kirk and Scotty inside the shuttle have been ‘unwarped’ (I think the effect was originally achieved by projecting them onto a flat card placed inside the shuttle, which meant they looked strange at oblique angles).

I bought the mega 4-disc collector's set of this, props to Paramount for coming through and delivering a real labor of love for the fans. I think other studios would have just lazily upscaled it, not going back to the original camera elements. Even the entirely new stuff is top notch, still has some of the best CG Enterprise shots ever done.

7:04 The office complex was lowered to match previous shots of the shuttle pod leaving it. 6:10 The pod is shown as leaving with the drydock facility shown as being slightly higher than the office. It also makes it so that the pod is taking a direct route from the office to drydock.

Watch the motion of the TOS-style shuttle in the 2022 version. It gets smaller as it flies into the background but then it just sort of stops. Somebody missed a keyframe, or the angle made it look weird or something.

Strangely, the San Fransisco shuttle looks better in the 2001 version than the 2022 version. The latter version has the perspective all wrong.

2:24, Weird! What have they replaced the 1960s style shuttle (top right) with? Looks tiny!

I think that is still meant to be the TOS shuttle. Just looks a little different from the CGI recreation.

No, you're all wrong! In the original 2001 version that shot was meant to be a "very wide angle". The new version on 4K is meant to be a "lesser wide angle". How can you tell? Look at the San Francisco bridge, the 4k looks kinda flat while the 2001 looks warped, (a.k.a as a very wide angle). That's why the shuttle has changed size? or that's how the computer angled it for the new wide angle in the 4K. Or maybe it's just a mistake by the 4K computer artist.😄🖖

7:09 it reads better as the space dock looks to be on the same level as the office complex when seen from the complex.

a tip: mute one of the audio tracks when you overlay clips. the echo effect comes when you are allighning them slightly off.

Are the changes such as the text on the Epsilon 9 screen showing the Klingon ship attacked or adding the ship to the space station also present in the remasted theatrical cut blu-ray or have they only been done for the director's cut remaster?

If you buy a Blu-ray you have HD ...no matter which Version you buy. Just dont buy DVD, because the DVD is NOT 1080 HD....

The rebuilt Director's Edition has been released on standard Blu-ray as well so I recommend getting that one. 🙂

This is the only major Hollywood release I’ve ever witnessed to be improved over the course of decades. The ‘99 release was so important, and the ‘22 release improved on that even. I was there for both releases. What will they have for us in 20 more years?
