The only Star Trek movie that is cinematic in that it looks and feels like a film on a grand scope and worthy of the title Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

I agree! Not many will agree with you because the other 5 were more like the TV show, but this was an EPIC sci fi film. The only good work Katzenberg ever did. Now he's completely screwing up the franchise...

The refit reveal for me is still one of the best segments ever put to film.

Robert Norris specifically with the score composed by Jerry Goldsmith.

The thing about this film is how it gave the impression of being in "real time" and thus gave us the feeling of actually being on the bridge with the crew. This film got a 10 out of 10 out of me, and is the only one out of all the hundreds of films that reached my personal rating level. Only The Iron Giant and Liar Liar came very close to it with 9.5 out of 10 from me.

interesting, the unused music cue. All the elements were there, it's clearly Goldsmith, it's clearly TMP, but without the theme it's a lot like five seconds grabbed from all over the score and squeezed together! I'm glad that theme emerged.

I loved this film back in 1979/1980 and I love it even more today. Guess which Trek film out of all 13 has the BEST soundtrack? This one. Thanks to the legendary Jerry Goldsmith.

Actually, the V'Ger cloud sequences shown weren't done by Alison---who I taught how to render---they were done by me. Alison did some and I did most of them, but the two shown were the ones I designed and rendered.

Those shots of the cloud exterior (at 3:10) are some of the most beautiful and haunting I've ever seen.
@swifty19696 жыл бұрын
that's what I was going to say, you beat me to it..;) That entire sequence is awe inspiring. And to think many people think of TMP as garbage and that included Leonard Nimoy (r.i.p).

Beautiful sequence! I would love to see ALL the work that was done for this that didn't make it into the film. It truly is amazing work.

Still my favorite of the Star Trek films. It is the only one that is completely true to the spirit of Star Trek and the only one that feels like a big cinematic experience.

They don't mention the the failure of the first effect shop, Robert Abel and associates, after a year of work, they couldn't produce a suitable effect shot.

I don’t know if Jerry was being prophetic about Jeffrey Katzenberg, because he would later be Chairman of the Walt Disney Studios.

Part 5 is the comparison between the theatrical version and the special longer version

How can inflation not be relevant? 1 million tickets at $5 / ticket is less than $10 / ticket. Maybe they should be counting tickets sold instead of gross revenue.

This video mentions a part 5. Why do that if you only make 4 parts?
@TrekkieChannel8 жыл бұрын
If I remember correctly I changed the "concept". Originally the first 4 parts were supposed to be a mini documentary made out of archival interviews documenting all the time between the end of the original show, through "Phase II" and the production of the movie, and then I wanted to do comparisons between all 3 versions of the movie. I have done comparison videos but I don't really remember if they are labelled as part 5 etc. or if I dropped it

TrekkieChannel why not create an updated version of this documentary to celebrate the 40th anniversary of TMP?

Good thing no one had a chance to preview the film before its release. I remember being 9 years old when this came out and I couldn't wait to see it on HBO. I will never forget being so bored and disappointed by a film. Star Trek: The Motionless Picture.
@swifty19696 жыл бұрын
yeah! that's why it made 82 million (400+million adjusted for 2018) and made Star Trek relevant again. But that's ok everybody has different tastes. Let me ask you this, do you like The Wrath of Khan?
