In the corridors of a starship adrift in the vast expanse, Lieutenant Barclay, a mind ablaze with possibility, Tinkers with the fabric of time itself. His fingers dance across the controls, A symphony of calculations and algorithms, As he bends the laws of physics to his will. Picard, stoic captain with a heart of valor, Stands by, his trust unwavering in Barclay's genius, As they embark on a journey beyond the bounds of time. Through the swirling vortex of the temporal rift, They emerge in a world shrouded in darkness, Where the cruel tyrants reign supreme. Barclay, with his brilliance undimmed, Devises a plan to topple the oppressors, To free humanity from the shackles of tyranny. Picard, with his unwavering resolve, Leads the charge, rallying the downtrodden masses, As they rise up against their oppressors. In the heat of battle, amidst the clash of swords, Barclay's mind is a beacon of hope, Guiding them through the chaos to victory. And as the tyrants fall, their reign of terror ended, Picard and Barclay stand as heroes, Their names etched into the annals of history. For in the crucible of adversity, It was their courage, their determination, And Barclay's genius, that saved the human race.

Nice that you're already at season 3 on Patreon. But I still won't spoil anything for the remaining episodes of season 2. You made note of Picard's use of the term "Number 1" towards Riker. As I always like to try, I'd like to offer some Star Trek lore for context. It is my belief that, show creator, Gene Roddenberry wanted Picard to refer to his first officer as Number 1 as a call back (lack of better term) to the original pilot of the original series and show notes for that intended iteration of the show. The Captain would refer to his first officer as "Number 1" and the character's name would not otherwise be known. In the pilot, that character was played by Marjel Barrett (Mrs. Roddenberry ),who would go on to play Nurse Christine Chapel in the series. Marjel also plays Deanna's Mom and the voice of the computer. Riker's first name, Will is a call back to Star Trek: The Motion Picture. The name of the Captain (demoted to serve as Kirk's first officer), Will Decker. Will Decker was the son of Commodore Decker from the original series episode Doomsday Machine. Further parallels between Riker and Will Decker is his past relationship. Decker has a past relationship with a Deltan (Ilea) and Riker's past relationship with a Batazoid. Now I have a question for you Jen; where are you getting the Star Trek merch? I love that you're wearing it for the show.

Something that I've always loved is, when Kargon pulls his disruptor pistol on the bridge, Data immediately: 1. Gets out of Worf's way, giving him a clear shot. 2. Steps between Picard and Kargon, protecting his Captain.

@@0lyge0 The Next Generation's first great episode! *It is also the first episode I show anyone when I introduce Star Trek to them.* It includes everything important about Star Trek to someone who knows nothing: 1) It introduces you to the core cast of the next generation, which is better than trying to introduce them to everyone by showing them encounter at farpoint. 2) It explains the federation, starfleet, and Gene roddenberry's version of Star Trek in general 3) The courtroom setting is familiar to people who aren't used to watching Sci-fi, and may balk at actors in weird forehead makeup and space battles.

For the record, it wasn't a video game that Riker and Picard were playing. Instead it was a phasar practice range, where each person had to shoot the coloured lights that corresponded to the colour of the half-circle that they were each standing in (for which they would then get points)! It also allows people to advance in level (difficulty), thus perpetually honing the user's targeting skills! 😊

"Everyone is reasonable and I like it." That pretty much sums this show up in a nutshell and why it's so loved. Too often we have characters who are dumb and make stupid decisions or are entirely selfish or irrational... and that nonsense fuels the plot or creates the conflict or the comedy... TNG is different. The characters are rational even if they all see things differently, and they work together to overcome real intriguing obstacles and philosophical dilemmas.
@JosephDavies
@JosephDavies 3 ай бұрын
The "everyone is reasonable and competent" part of TNG is one of the enduringly appealing aspects of the show, and sadly something that later writing teams don't seem to understand quite as well. IMO it's a crucial part of the optimism we see on display as an aspirational future.

WOOT! WOOT! We got Brian Thomson as commander Klag, Riker's new Klingon buddy, and one of my favorite Klingons in Trek. Thompson is well-known by genre audiences, and this is the first of several forthcoming Star Trek appearances. He can also be seen as the Alien bounty-hunter in the "X-Files", has two different character appearances in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", played the Bruja clan-leader, Eddie in the short-lived "Kindred the Embraced," and even got to play Hercules in the "Jason and the Argonauts" TV movie back in 2000. He can be spotted in lots of movies too, from "The Terminator" to "Mortal Kombat Annihilation" to "Dr. Mordred." Great guy, a fun character-actor, and always a treat to see pop up. Oh, and Christopher "Chris Latta" Collins as captain Kargan. Fun all-around!

Yeah, fans get upset when I say ST got better once Roddenberry was gone but his stance on conflict in his "utopian" future was a bit too sterile and made more uninteresting storylines. His feelings of non violent conflicts just is not a great plot mover.
@chrisnielsen9885
@chrisnielsen9885 7 ай бұрын
@@angelohernandez6060 my feeling is interpersonal drama is at the core of good storytelling. Take that away and you’re left with spaceships and aliens. And add the ‘big red reset button’ at the end of each episode so every episode has to stand alone so casual viewers don’t get lost. It has minimal character growth through the course of the show because of this. It’s why I prefer B5, it has drama and character growth. Also terrible CGI and cringeworthy dialogue but you can’t win them all 😂

Even TOS wasn't really Roddenberry's Star Trek. Gene Coon had a LOT of input on that series. Roddenberry was most directly involved in Season 1 of TOS, TMP, and the first season and a half to two seasons of TNG. Outside that it was all Gene Coon, Harve Bennett, and Rick Berman.@@-M0LE

@@chrisnielsen9885 I can see where you feel on this and do agree on some of it. But Roddenberrys idea of solving conflict non violently was having the kid that he wrote in, because it's himself, into the show to save the day with no violence almost every week. Now that I find that unimaginative and tedious. I absolutely agree with B5! That show is what STNG should have been. B5 had action and profound moments in a world that let characters grow. I never felt that STNG ever let anyone besides Data grow. Essentially by the time Roddenberry left the show all the major remaining characters (besides Data) were exactly the same as when they were introduced. Yeah, loved Babylon 5 !

FUN FACT: Doctor McCoy HATED the transporter as well.
@NZBigfoot
@NZBigfoot 7 ай бұрын
Well by all metrics their right... a transporter is a literal death machine. Your scanned and your make up at transport time is saved, your then disintegrated (ie you are unequivocaly dead) into energy (if your not you and completely refined to your base energy you are, without a doubt dead) which is stored in a form of battery, then that energy is sent as a stream to a location where your then remade from that energy based on the stored data mapping you out... its more or less a long range, large scale replicator. Its something that even for ST would be unimaginably impossible based on the shear amount of data that would require for a single human, meaning the only way is there has to be short cuts and data compression going on meaning like a JPEG image large parts of that data is homogenized meaning say sure most of your liver is rebuilt like the old one, but the new liver is mostly new 'uncompressed' cells made up based on a base data of those cells... ie only the extremes of variance in your cells and matter would be retained in your new copy, any 'normal' or average cells would just be filled in... so even your new copy that comes out the other end isnt even remotely like you were. So like McCoy and Polaski you sure as hell wouldnt get me in one of those damn transporters... and no i dont go with the idea the transporter is really a tunnel through subspace, thats just a cope out they threw around to get around the logic of how stupid the idea of a transporter as a mode of transport is. Not to mention transporters would be literally if you get around the death machine part, the greatest device ever created given the things you could do with them from medicine to science to warfare and everything inbetween. Their the ultimate deus ex machine.

Dr. Pulaski is more like McCoy than people like to admit. She is basically a female McCoy with less developed social skills.

@@NZBigfoot its the biggest plot hole in the franchise. Transporters should be able to resurrect or clone anyone at anytime. They should be used routinely for beaming explosives next to the warp core on enemy ships when possible. Yet these things happen very rarely throughout the entire franchise.

Souls are pretty conclusively real in Star Trek, and we see people conscious in the matter stream a few times, so it's less 'death' and more 'instant reincarnation' :p Also, the circumstances with transporters de-aging people and what caused those effects are strange enough and hard enough to replicate I can see that technology not becoming standard for a long time. Especially since transporter accidents are absolutely horrific if anything goes wrong.

A Matter of Honor is one of my all time favorite episodes that doesn't always make the top ranked episode lists. There are a lot of episodes like that in TNG. The ones that don't always make the top 10 lists, but are still really special.

He was the second helmsman (flight control officer, also known as conn officer, or simply conn/helm) on the battle bridge on the 'Encounter At Farpoint' series premiere episode. Also, happy St. Patrick's Day, today, March 17th, 2024. Just sayin'.
