Ahh great point! They did address this though in Picard (new series), probably writers got wind of this. I pulled this off from the internet. "only to be left behind in the rubble after the USS Enterprise-D has crash-landed on Veridian III. (We may assume that the latter is just a replica.) The artifact will eventually be stored in Picard's quantum archives, as seen in PIC: "Remembrance"."

1:10 “On a ship that’s perpetually on the verge of exploding”… that actually happened in the movie Generations and they referenced this artifact. At the end Picard went through the rubble, found the artifact, and tossed it aside because he was looking for his family album. They did that to show just how much he valued his family after the ordeal of the movie. Such an important artifact was of little interest to Picard because it wasn’t as important to him as a seemingly simple family album. Maybe simple isn’t the best way to describe the album. After all, it did have glitter outlines around the photos.

This one needed to be developed into a feature length script or at least a two parter. The themes explored are pretty cosmic and epic (basically how humanoid life was seeded in the galaxy, doesn't get much larger than that in terms of cosmic questions of importance). I don' t think an hour does the nature of the material justice. The Romulan contacting Picard makes perfect sense when you analyse the scene from the context of the history of relations between the two races. I am sure there are many Romulans in the Empire who tire of constant threats of war with humanity (we sort of see that mindset even with Toreth in Face of the Enemy). I think this Romulan represented that war-weary Romulan solider and again the script if developed into a two-parter or feature could have explored this thread much more thoroughly.

I always thought that this was supposed to be foreshadowing of the Founders. The make up design is nearly identical and the whole concept would fit into their nefarious plans to control the Alpha Quadrant, by having a bunch of species and races that don't get along and can be manipulated. Anyway, it could have been a good two parter as this was simultaneously the first season of DS9.

The reason they went for the Romulans giving a message of hope at the end was because they are the biggest threat in TNG. The Cardassians and Klingon are way more friendly towards the federation than the Romulans ...But yeah, if they wanted to do that it would have been nice if they included the romulans earlier in to the episode. Tho I agree more with a B- than a C

Maurice Roves was in a Doctor Who story circa 1984. Linda Thorson was one of The Avengers. The episode has so many actors sleeping while delivering their lines, probably having listened to the ill-fitting incidental muzak soundtrack... Roves and Thorson excepted. A shame the Romulan wasn't Admiral Itsafake from DS9... For season 6 standards: B- For TNG as a whole: D. So many season 1 episodes do more with lesser ideas.

This episode kind of puts a cap in a recurring theme from TOS, although it's only referenced obliquely. A number of TOS episodes raised the question of why so many species resembled humans, including ancient Romans and native Americans. And somehow the Amazonian tribes in Voyager tie in. They speculated that an ancient race called The Preservers had seeded the primordial oceans of various worlds.

In "All Good Things," Q takes Picard to primordial Earth, and they watch a puddle of liquid where life didn't form because of the anti-time anomaly. This video stutters periodically. It's most obvious at 8:22 when the disruptor beam freezes but it occurs throughout the video. I'm a little surprised at the relatively high rating. It was around this episode when I became conscious that TNG was running out of gas, and I remember there being some surprise that it was renewed for a seventh season. I didn't know at the time how creatively split the braintrust was between continuing TNG, launching and maintaining DS9, developing Voyager, and and planning the movies, but the magic started to wear off a bit with TNG, even more so next season. That said, I like the next one, "Frame of Mind", and "Timescape" a few episodes later, both of which are Brannon Braga creations. But the rest, especially the finale, which feels like it was written as they were filming it, have the same running out of gas feeling.

you said single minded, but I think you meant 1-dimensional 😂 . But seriously, you're right. the different races of beings in Star trek are so...stereotypical and non-complex. at least the Klingons and the Ferengi. Like the Klingons are aggressive and love fighting and that pretty much sums them up. You can pretty much predict anything they'll say or do.
@shawnfisher74342 жыл бұрын
This should have been a two part episode. As it is, they condensed it so much that it makes little sense why the Cardassians and Klingons and later the Romulans are so interested in this discovery. There wasn't enough build-up, it was all about getting to the conclusion as quickly as possible. Then the discovery is just....forgotten. Everyone shrugs it off as false and it's never brought up again. We saw this happen again in S7 with the 'Warp drive is destroying sub-space' episode, but at least they had throw away lines about having permission to exceed Warp speed limits for the duration of the mission. This is a huge idea, but it's kind of shrugged off as false-canon and never mentioned again. It's TNG's version of Star Trek V. I agree with the C grade, this is the definition of a middling, mediocre episode. We're getting close to S7, so it's only downhill from here. There are maybe 3 or 4 good episodes left.

at least humans and klingons are literally the same species. a species is a group of organisms where any two random fertile individuals can produce fertile offspring. we are shown at least 2 half-human half-klingon females who are fertile. torres has a baby with a human. worf's mate(i always forget her name) has a baby with worf(who is a klingon). and there's a minor character in one tng episode who is like 1/4th romulan, so that means one of his parents is 1/2 romulan, and thus romulans and humans can interbreed and have fertile offspring. and since romulans are just an offshoot of vulcans we can assume vulcans and humans are also the same species. in ds9 gul dukat has 2 different children with bajoran mothers. we never see either child have a chance to reproduce, so it's still not confirmed if bajorans and cardassians are the same species of if the kids are just hybrids, like a mule. in a tng episode a cardassian engineer told obrien she could give him offspring, so i'm assuming that means cardassians and humans CAN reproduce......so they might also be the same species if their offspring is fertile. i'm not aware of any half ferengui.....
