4:25 so glad Troi got promoted to Commander so she can blow off commanding the ship to take a bath… 5:22 This is why Crusher got sacked from being the Head of Starfleet Medical… she identified a venom sack on Worf’s neck, then asked him to open his mouth while stood right in front of him. I can only imagine the horrors that happened because of her during Season 2… 5:36 In DS9 “Wrongs Darker Than Death or Night” Dukat heals Kira’s mum’s scar with a little gadget. This scene was set well before even this episode (during the Occupation) but yet in “Future Imperfect” Worf having a scar didn’t seem out of the ordinary to Riker, only that Worf couldn’t explain when and how he got it. 9:43 Nice touch that the fish in the ready room aquarium has been turned into a jellyfish thing. 11:16 Of course the writer doesn’t understand evolution; this is the same guy that will one day write VOY “Threshold”, the hyper evolved freaky salamander sex episode.

This episode was one of my least favorite Star Trek episodes until Threshold introduced both the breaking of the warp 10 barrier and Tom Paris evolving into a post-human salamander. I’m beginning to think that, between Data and the EMH, artificial intelligence in Star fleet think that any mutation equals evolution. Also let’s have a Spider-Barkley and Cronenburg-Tom Paris action figure two pack.

Usually it’s the enterprise that comes upon a derelict ship that something has happened to the entire crew. Having it happen to the enterprise crew themselves and still hand waving it is insulting. I’m sure one or more of the children on board was at least attacked if not eaten, and several members of the crew were lost, possibly a very high percentage. There’s no way they just fixed this in a few days, and I’m sure there would have been a lengthy investigation.

This is one of those episodes that if it had happened to another ship it would have been a derelict for the enterprise to find long after the crew had eaten each other with only a hand full of survivors saved right before the warp core explodes, with the rest of the episode showing the enterprise crew trying to cure to poor bastards only to find in the end that the surviving crew wished they’d rather been killed than live with what happened.

In "The Chase" humanoids weren't stated to have a common ancestor, but to have come from planets where the life there was manipulated in some way to produce humanoids through evolutionary processes. There isn't a conflict between "The Chase" and "Genesis", although there are many, many conflicts between both episodes and known biology. That being said, "Genesis" was one of, if not my favourite episode as a kid. I tended to like the ones that have the really bad reputations these days.
