Hi. I think you are right: I believe he was going to go with "The Traveler," so, why would he return for the movie and say he was going to join Riker's ship? Maybe that is why the scene was cut. Still, he was seen, not speaking, in the original theatrical version. Curios. Or, is it, Fascinating?

There's a great Star Trek book series where they explain that Wesley was just visiting the wedding as a Traveller and dropped into the event naked thinking it would be a traditional Betazed wedding 😀
