Your EFX are light years better than the original ... That said, 2 suggestions: 1) When the Bird of Prey fires its Phasers at Voyager 2, give the craft some reactive / reflective (you choose) LIGHT on the hull as the bright pulses and subsequent explosion would sell the shot better. 2) When we see NIMBUS 3 on the view screen on the NCC-1701 Bridge, there is no shadows on the planet and her moons. As the next frame is out in orbit and we DO see the shadows. And last but not least ... I'd hire you guys in a hot New York minute to do Visual Effects on a film or TV. Yep, you guys are that good. Bravo, amigos. D.A.

Really nice work, but it needs one thing. I know you were just working on replacement shots, but right after Kirk says, “I miss my old chair,” we need a shot of the Enterprise arcing around and leaping into warp.

That show at 3:54 is particularly cool with Earth in the background. 6:31 is also impressive, with the push into Spock in the lounge. Gorgeous :)

What's funny is, and I mean no disrespect, but these effects are about TV level, but still MUCH better than what an entire movie production came up with back then!

Wow those came out really well. I especially like the shot closeup transition to Spock in the observation lounge. Though the window should be much larger. Having just pulled up the scene it was a static star field where it should’ve a moving like yours. Nonetheless great work you have done here. As usual the fans are making the actual studios look like amateurs. For all of its production issues having to contend with: a writers strike, a reduced budget, and not to mention ILM not doing the Fx work, I still like Star Trek V. The three leads interpersonal banter had never been better. Along with Deforest Kelly’s performance when having to relive his father’s passing and being the one to do it was superb acting.

"Star Trek V: The Final Frontier" is one of my favorite movies. If it had had a bigger budget and adjustments to the script, it would have been a greater success. Still, it is a good film that masterfully touches on the human and the spiritual. For example, the way it presents how different races and beliefs call Eden can very well lead to understanding that in life as the greatest adventure, we can highlight points of harmony and common challenges to overcome. The greatest spiritual force is to grow as human beings. With constructive awareness, each can well captain the ship of his or her own being and the course of his or her unique calling. Forward wisely and heroically.

Thank you very much, great work of art! Your FX are so much better than the original. Two things you could consider to improve it even further: 1. I think you forgot the markings on the belly of the Enterprise (or maybe I just couldn't spot them). That's a thing that distinguishes the NCC 1701-A from the original refit 1701. The 1701-A has a few markings like the yellow circle with a red outline on her belly. 2. You should add a little bit of grain on your footage, so that is fits perfectly into the rest of the film. Keep up the great work, I really appreciate what you are doing!

Is Star Trek 5 a good movie? No. Will updating the visual effects make it a good movie? Also, no. But it is very pleasing to see someone use their own desktop computer to do what an entire Hollywood special effects house couldn't do in 1989.

TR£K V The Editor's Extended Cut is a better movie. But the novelization is really good science fiction!
@thomastarwater29892 ай бұрын
I commend HIKEANIMATION for coming up with far better visuals on STAR TREK V: THE FINAL FRONTIER (1989). Originally the visual effects were supervised by Bran Ferren who did receive an Academy Award in the Best Visual Effects Category for his work on THE LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS (1986), but that was a small, intimate musical comedy. This was a STAR TREK movie that demanded superb visuals to match the epic vistas of galaxies and planetary systems which only Industrial Light and Magic could deliver. Bran Ferren gave it his best shot, but he was out of his element, was all. Probably Richard Edlund could have done a far better job, but he was a busy little beaver during the 1980s. But if not him, maybe Douglas Trumbull or John Dykstra could have come up with some spectacular visual effects. Random thoughts.

It always bothered me that Checkov didn't change his insignia if he was going to play captain as a diversion. Sure, he could be a Commander and command a Starship, but whoever was on the other side of the vidscreen might notice and realize he wouldn't have the experience of a full Captain.

Such an odd movie -- the score was topnotch, the photography was nice, the production and sound design was totally fine; yet crippled by post-production SFX. I know some found the story not great, but it was no worse than any other Trek film. ST:V had the misfortune of not being able to use Industrial Light and Magic as its primary SFX house because they were overtaxed on Indiana Jones 3 and Ghostbusters 2. They had to find outside effects houses and they had half the time to complete them due to Paramount insisting it be released in Summer 89.
@joemaxwell39022 ай бұрын
I knew STV was in trouble when the opening titles looked unbelievably cheap and rushed. Then the STVI titles looked like they'd lavished a lot of time and money on them and I felt better lol

Typical Amateurish attempts to "Improve" on an Artists work. Copying the TMP Enterprise shots instead of doing anything new or consistent with trek II-IV FX. No cohesive design, filling every Frame with bright space backgrounds. Replacing the brilliant live action shuttlebay shots & Real scale shuttle landing in real environment with a tiny CGI Shuttle drifting in front of basic starfield & mid shot of obvious CGI shuttle Landing then cutting into original live action shot with crew leaving the shuttle.? Bright Green ship on Bright Purple Background? Filling every frame with everything they can think to include with no sense of the original Cinematography. Like the Original FX Artist would have done the same but couldn't when he actually made those choices due to artistry.. Just because you can do a thing doesn't mean you should. Cringe. Why do people keep thinking these is something missing from every FX shot in this film & think they can do better? None of them fill the few lacking elements of the original or improve on the original. All Just cringe.
