Man...for years, I rejected any Star Trek incarnation that wasn't either The Original Series or The Next Generation. Then someone suggested I take a look at Voyager and after watching this 1st, 2-part episode, I was absolutely hooked! What a great overall storyline!! I loved it when I first watched the series 7 or 8 years ago and now I'm going to start all over again watching the full series on Netflix...starting...NOW!!! Voyager is a terrific Star Trek incarnation!!

This is what made "Voyager" different from "TNG" - the opening scrawls were a transition to darker more violent storytelling! Gritty. "TNG" was like 80s Golden Age hip hop. "Voyager" was like gangsta rap, more darker and hardcore. "DS9" is more "Star Wars"ish so they don't count. This show on the other hand was OG as fuck like "TNG."

@robertballasty3954 жыл бұрын
Stadi (don't know if I'm spelling that right) tells Paris crew complement is 141. Some die when the ship gets pulled to the Delta quadrant - her (Conn), Chief Engineer, First Officer, Chief Medical Officer, and Chief Nurse; probably others. I don't know if there was ever an on-screen reference to how many dead. I assume a dozen or two. Maquis ship was small. I don't know if it was ever said what crew complement was. I assume two or three dozen at most, and they must've had some fatalities. One clue would be the scene in the caretaker's array when they find Chakotay's crew in cold-storage - I don't know if a still would suggest how many people survived. Anyway.... (141 - some dead) + (36 - some dead) + (Neelix & Kes) = _______? Some early season episode (maybe The 37s ?) made reference to a combined crew of 150. Sounds like a reasonable figure to me.

I loved the first season of voyager when there was some sense that they were stranded, and there was a little bit of a Robinson Crusoe feel, but I started to really dislike it after it basically turned into tng which made no sense be stranded alone in the delta quadrant It just became absurd that they were one stranded ship playing high diplomacy and winning wars against major, sector spanning powers, including the freaking Borg, and basically living in luxury, with that much freaking time on holodeck. That and the writing got atrocious. I started to see it as a step below tng and ds9. I own the DVDs of tng and ds9 but deliberately do not get voy.

I remember not liking Voyager very much for a lot of its original run at the time, but now after having been exposed to so much gutter trash in modern Scifi like ST Discovery and ST Picard, not to mention the abomination of Star Wars' sequel trilogy; now I love Voyager and think it was phenomenal; though DS9 and TNG will always be better. Just a matter of perspective.
@siegessaule Жыл бұрын
It did have a TNG feel at first, I think they played it safe and coasted off TNG's success because it was the flagship series for UPN at the time. The writing quality for the episodes was there from the beginning, but I think it took the cast a while to gel and create some chemistry. Once they replaced Kes with Seven all of the recurring characters were likeable. The plots of the episodes were a lot more original and fun than TNG in seasons 5-7. TNG had many excellent episodes but several that were pretty generic sci-fi plots.

The show that introduced the real Warner Bros. network just a week after Tribune's lesser known and more forgotten competition and fucked up real badly by exploiting the "Wayans Bros." which was true talent, and likely made for UPN, as a 3 option, originally, in addition to Fox and NBC, which were their first two originally designated and pitched networks. Warner Bros.-like, my ass. UPN was way more Warner Bros. and it did have Warner Bros. blood because UPN was the spawn of PTEN. UPN was messier than The WB, but The WB was generic and a lame attempt at imitating CBS. They wanted to remake WB, for God knows, what reason. UPN was experimental, but they outstomped The WB every year, concurring with its lame run (1995 - 2006). Let's not forget "The Strip" was a popular show, though like "The Love Boat," was not as popular. But the fact that UPN had a good amount of failures did show that they were willing take risks, which The WB wasn't. And The WB had a lot of forgotten shows which only lasted a year, only it was more pathetic and forgettable in their case. BTW, when it comes to flagship and star-studded John Jay College type fame, UPN heads up. And "Wayans Bros." doesn't count cause The WB and Warner Bros. had major conflicts which each other. It didn't seem like they were happy with Tribune when they made PTEN (which WWOR was actually briefly an affiliate of from 1993 to 1995). "The Wayans Bros." don't count cause I know the story and Warner Bros. wasn't happy with The WB. But Warner Bros.'s first TV sitcom hit in 1995, was a UPN show called "Minor Adjustments," which actually aired on both NBC and UPN simultaneously Anyways, who do you guys think could win in a fight, the Intrepid or the D? I know the D is the fame flagship and it was advanced. But I believe it wasn't as flawless as it made themselves out to be. Now, the Constellation class was built for combat. For one, while they had good weapons, they weren't built for combat. They were fast, and they were advanced. But Voyager was newer and they were a product of the post-Wolf 359 time, which means they had to be built with the Borg in mind, if not in weapons, at least in speed and evading their presence. Which Voyager did well. But in weapons, they too had to be more advanced, given they came after. "Voyager" was a show of survival, even before being thrown in the Delta Quadrant. The whole atmosphere of the show means, that compared to "TNG," they dealt with their fair share of battles, indicating the show was "DS9" in nature and less innocent. Janeway did not strike me as too complacent the way Picard was. I think she was a realistic and very war-weary. Her personality showed it. In many ways she was more like Jellico, but less rigid. Anyways, I think Voyager could give the D a run for its money, and possibly, if not defeat them, at the very least do damage. They were more advanced, and the ship looks more rigid and warlike. Yes they were for exploration. But it was more modern, and while nothing like "DS9" in the darkness of the warring Defiant, was built with war in mind if necessary. They had an advantage over the D in speed and superior proportion, cause it was newer. Even before Seven improved the ship with Borg technology, they managed to be formidable. The Kazons are a lesser power, much like Pakleds, but in the pilot they proved to be a serious nuissance as they were armed together to take Voyager down as well as the Caretaker. It took a kamakazi-like attempt (short of suicide) to destroy them, as Chakotay and I believe B'Elanna take the ship down. But Voyager did damage to them, make no mistake.
