OK WTF i watched half the video and it doesnt even show the game in the title WOW..........golfclap Spend more time talking about an Atari game in an NES video? This videos title does not match the video it should be called Star Voyager Atari. Also the game you have displayed is also an Atari game when the title is an NES game???? Sorry but i have to dislike because the video title is a lie and i don't like being lied to.

@stt5v20022 жыл бұрын
In the pre internet era, we had to just figure this stuff out. I played this game so many times .Here are they key tips. Search planets until you find the super laser. Dont fly too fast in combat, and change speeds to get the enemy ships into your sights. Target the enemy mother ships and destroy them. The fighters are fun to destroy but largely irrelevant. In hundreds of hours of play, I found the monolith once. As far as I know, there is no way to tell where it is. Jumping into empty sectors to search for it is a waste of critical time, as the enemy are heading for your base. The one time I found it was due to a hyperspace navigation error.
@FridayNightArcade2 жыл бұрын
That's it exactly. And also odds are if you owned this game, this was just the game you had to play for awhile so you really had no choice but to try to figure it out and get better at it. Regarding the monolith.... supposedly there's a way to tell if you keep an eye on the map. The objects are all constantly moving. Planets, enemy sectors, space stations, etc. The monolith appears in an empty space that's never occupied at any point and it never moves. So if you keep track of the map and can eyeball a few spots that seem like they're never occupied, the monolith might be in one of those. But it's still gonna take some luck or you're risking precious time and resources.

You're right, so many games were based on this premise. I played Solaris on the 2600, but my favorite was a PC game, and I forget its name. I just remember that there's an "Ark" ship whose resources are going fast, and you're in charge of an earth battleship that needs to fight off bad guys and make contact with benevolent species. The NES and PS1 tied for my favorite consoles, but I never heard of this game.

I've seen this game a lot out in the wild. I 100% approve of the use of the Monty Python 'Intermission song' during this video! I think this game looks pretty neat. I will pick it up the next time I see it, at $6 its hard to get too upset. The space map reminds me of Solaris. So really this ship gets the same gas mileage as a 1970 Buick Riviera with a 455 under the hood. Yea, a 50% efficiency rating would make the game more fun instead of being a fuel grind. Great to see another video from you. I hope you, your wife and the twins are doing well!

I love how when explaining the hyperdrive you omitted how to know how many squares you need. Also screwing yourself over by using to many squares. Also, the monolith is in a unmarked sector. I have it in my mind that you find them near the black hole or asteroid field, but I am not sure if that is true or if that was where I just happen to find it. I would delete the video because it is really important to the game to know how to warp. You left out the most important part.
@FridayNightArcade2 жыл бұрын
I read that section in the manual four times and still didn't fully understand what you were supposed to do. Please by all means, make a better video explaining it and post. I'll watch.
@TheStarTrekApologist2 жыл бұрын
@@FridayNightArcade The number between the radar and the compass is how many squares you need to warp. You could just warp one sector at a time, but you do space fuel by using the right number of squares. I am not sure if that is programmed in or just a function of not having to accelerate. Also you need to go slower when landing or docking. About Two to three on the velocity meter. Never beet this game. I also tried to figure out how looks in 3D using the radar screen blueprint, and the intro. It looks like it should make sense but never does.

I bought this back in the day when I saw it for the NES as I really liked Star Raiders. I was a bit underwhelmed. I've played through it a few times both back in the day and more recently. I think the biggest problem with it is that it feels slow and takes too long for what it is. Hunting down the Hyperdrive and Laser upgrades in Star Voyager is just an extra step that drags the game out. Star Raiders on the 2600 is a bit too fast and lacks some strategy (only one fleet and one base to defend). Starmaster is a nice middle of the road between Star Voyager and Star Raiders and probably the best take on this concept. Starmaster plays at a good pace, has some strategy, but doesn't overstay it's welcome or add unnecessary mechanics.
