Jabba was first seen in ROJ. This scene didn't make it to the original release. And, even if it had, Jabba was an actor, an Irish guy, if memory serves , not a puppet or, as you say, a CGI effect. Also, if I'm right, this isn't even the original CGI version. Lucas went bac YET AGAIN to 'improve' Jabba.

I don't mind it myself. Only thing I wish they'd done in the Special Edition is change the subtitles for Greedo's dialogue back to what it was meant to be before they cut this Jabba scene from the original release. When they cut this scene, some of Jabba's dialogue was given to Greedo, replacing what he was originally gonna say. Plus Han now says "Even I get boarded sometimes. Do you think I had a choice?" in both scenes.

A New Hope was the beginning of a cultural movement. The movie promoted its own real life religious groups of Jedi and Sith and it brought so many people together over their imaginations.

In the original Jabba was human, Lucas didn't feel happy about it but didn't have the budget or the CGI to do any other. In the revised version for the 25th anniversary the CGI update was created and edited in to better fit with Lucas' original vision of the character. Han stepping on Jabbas tail served two purposes, 1) to show Hans disrespect for power, 2) to ensure the edited flowed seemlessly into the original. Amazing what you learn by watching the extras on DVD sets!

Lucas ruined his story by doing the special editions by readding scenes that didn't make sense, particularly with Han stepping on Jabba's tail. If Lucas wanted this scene in the movie that bad, why not just change the name and let 'Jabba' be the right hand man to "______ the Hutt". That way, Jabba could remain a human and Han could easily walk around him without any problems. Of course, there 'is' a fan who recreated this scene and added a droid projecting a holographic image of Jabba, and as Han walks around Jabba, he bumps into the droid, and the holographic image flickers. I mean, Han Solo wasn't that special. He was just another smuggler to Jabba. So the idea of having him come down to Docking Bay 94 'personally' doesn't make sense, especially when he turns right around and puts a big bounty on Han's head.

Han has bad grammar and he's a little meaner in part 1. He says "ain't", and "don't" where he should be saying "doesn't"; and makes other grammatical errors; effecting an uneducated slang; in part 1. And he calls Ben a "fossil". In part 2 and 3 he gets nicer and his grammar improves.
