After all the crazy intensity of holding an exhibition of miniature art, I needed a low-stress scale model build to get me back to reality. And the ancient, old-school Star Wars A-Wing Fighter kit by AMT was just the thing! Snap-tite, terrible fit, and poorly moulded - it was just what I needed for a spot of fun and pleasure. I decided to build it with some extra scratchbuilt details and my own fantasy paint scheme.

Modeling should be fun. Unless you are in the showroom stuff. People do it for contest. And thats fine. But have fun. Take off the stress.

I think the masking errors and overspray makes it look more authentic, like it was painted in the hangar in a rush just prior to battle!

No mistakes Dave, it's just picking the right backstory: He's a down-on-his-luck bounty hunter who sold his ship and had just enough to buy this junker. The fogging on the windscreen is due to a faulty environmental system causing condensation and the crack is a "Let's just hope it holds together long enough to get another bounty" moment. Simply cracking paint scheme - I love it!

Always liked these as fun in-between projects. The guts of two flashlights from the dollar store for the big engines, wired to a switch and battery pack in a base, some nice paint work and you have a nice gift for Star Wars fans.

For a "just for fun" build, you picked a hell of a colour scheme !! 😁 Your cock-ups weren't obvious in the footage but, if they're bugging you, could you not disguise them with weathering or battle damage? Cock-ups or not, it looks pretty good to me, considering what a basic kit you started with.👍 Good to see a video from you; I thought you'd made your fortune and retired.😁 Cheers for now, Dougie.

I bought some of these kits when they first came out, then quit the hobby. Finally got back into it last year and now have an x-wing and snowspeeder on the shelf, completed. Now building my mpc Space1999 Eagle Transporter. Love my scifi kits!

@@DavesModelWorkshop I did thanks. Happy 2021 to you and everyone! I taught my daughter how to make a diorama yesterday! Old school cut a hole in a box TV style (old 📺). I showed her the basics of making flat 2D cardboard figures then “standing them” up inside the box. What does she make?? A crazy alien monster style GANG, led by an outlaw pig and wanted by the law!! 😳😳😳 Should I be proud? Or concerned?

Hi Dave. I’ve just discovered your channel and loving the content. Wanted to ask you a couple of questions as I’m thinking of getting back into model making and thinking of a tank maybe as live ww2 stuff. Firstly, what order do you do your stages in ?, ie, base paint , salt wash (is it) , chipping, rust, mud , weathering pin was, varnishes Etc efc. Secondly, what are your preferred methods of some of theses? Like your chipping (sponge or hairspray) Thank you pal, keep up the great work. Regards, jay
