Can I comment that resin dust is toxic and breathing it in should be avoided. When sanding use a dust mask fitted well when available. For the sanding use wet and dry abrasives and wet them to encourage dust to adhere to the sanding medium. Your model skills are excellent and I enjoy your posts Immensely.

I would have had the top and bottom folded edges wedges out slightly for an overlapped joint then clamped those down hard to secure and a tiny tab inside glided to hold the seam, just my 2 cents but might have given a cleaner finish to not need hiding

Hey Dave and thank you for the video on the canopies. When I dip mine in Pledge (i have two different bottles) they start getting cracked. I mean the surface, not the plastic. Have you run into this issue before?
@DavesModelWorkshop17 күн бұрын
@@mattwurst1339 so the Pledge coating cracks? Is it very hot weather when it’s drying? I’ve not encountered that before. Maybe if your Pledge has gotten thicker over time, try an experiment watering the Pledge down a little, on a canopy you don’t care about?
@mattwurst133917 күн бұрын
Well my pledge bottle is very old. But i can't buy it here in Europe. Yes there are multiple hairline cracks after it dried. In any weather and temperature. It can be thinned with water? Really?
@DavesModelWorkshop15 күн бұрын
@@mattwurst1339 same in Australia, I can’t purchase it any more either. It sounds like it’s either drying too fast somehow, or it’s too viscous and cracking as it cures. My idea for the water might help with the second, but I really would experiment first before committing to a special model.

My nichrome wire broke and when I attempted to undo the bolt from below everything fell apart. Any idea how to reattach a new wire?
@DavesModelWorkshop2 ай бұрын
Are you talking about the bolt that the wire is attached to, under the tiny pinhole in the base? If so, it should easy to spool out more wire, thread the wire through the pinhole again and then wrap it around the securing bolt again.

Hmm, probably, but I'm not sure what you would add: paint, ink, etc? You'd need to do some experimenting first to make sure the colour mixed properly and didn't separate.

Beautiful work! It is gratifying to have one’s “hobby” be considered ART. The good modeler IS an artist, a miniaturist. I do mostly figure models, but I’ve moved from simpler environmental bases to extravagant ones, much like your buildings. Mine are closer to 1:9th scale. It has tripled my fun. It also led to an exhibit in an art museum. Again, you do incredible work. At some point, how about doing another video taking the time to linger over each piece and explain your process, and the special challenges for each one; the failures you endured before you got it just right (or close enough for country music.)…like your little lock.
@robertfulton48293 ай бұрын
I ran across your video yesterday looking for a rust weathering technique. It was perfect as I has steel wool and lots of vinegar. I let it soak overnight outside. It didn't look like much today, but I could see some rust color on the wool. It brushed on clear, but dried in minutes. WOW, perfect rust patina that popped when it dried! I don't have the chunkyness of yours yet, but I'm going to seal it up and let it sit for a few months and see what happens.
@DavesModelWorkshop3 ай бұрын
I'm glad it worked so well for you! If you're going to leave it to develop, just check after a week or so. It requires oxygen for the reaction, so if you "seal it up" as you mentioned it might stop the process - just check after a week, and if it's not doing anything maybe open the jar and see if that gets it cooking again :)
@robertfulton48293 ай бұрын
Sounds good. I can leave it out on the porch and see what happens. Thanks!

@davidhourigan97693 ай бұрын

Does anyone have a good source for colored pictures of panthers in snow camo?
@smellyfella50774 ай бұрын
Over at the Artist Opus Brushes channel they suggest storing brushes laying down on a table instead of upright in a jar, or whatever, because regardless of how clean and dry you think the brush is after use there is always a minute amount of thinner/cleaner left in the bristles that will seep down into the ferrule and will shorten the brushes lifespan more and more every time this happens.
@DavesModelWorkshop4 ай бұрын
That's actually a very helpful suggestion - thank you.

Modern Tamiya kits virtually build themselves---just shake the box. Even the greenest of beginners can build a very decent looking model if it's a Tamiya kit.......if they cant....then maybe they should consider getting into a different hobby like golf or whatever.
