Force Awakens actually got my hopes up in that department. The Resurgent is arguably the best star destroyer in Star Wars history. And then we got the Supremacy. A ship 60 kilometres wide with no rear weaponry. None. Seriously, what can you hope to get from Disney after that?

I would have loved to have seen most of the FO's tech be in the style of the Resurgent, the Stormtrooper armor, or the AT-M6. Instead we get what is essentially palette swaps with some modifications. I mean, the FO TIEs would have looked far more interesting if they had the Silencer's cockpit and maybe a different dagger- or chevron-like wing shape. It would allow some visual simularity but still make them seem more advanced or new. And we know they're capable of stuff like that with the Starhawk, which was more than worth the wait. That is one beautiful ship. What i guess it comes down to is the artists' and designers likely trying to play it safe since there's likely a large portion of the fanbase they want the movies to appeal to are in their forties and fifties and grew up with the Original Trilogy. The hardcore fanbase(s) is(are) a minority, albeit a vocal minority. The vast majority of Star Wars fans have never seen anything aside from the movies or a few books or games.

It's funny, I don't focus too much on the little details that your ship videos go into (although fun to learn about) but I actually felt disappointed that Fallen Order relied so much on Original Trilogy designs because it takes place only like 5 years after the Clone Wars. It really should've had more Republic or In-between stuff but with how much the game takes the lore seriously, it was likely a demand from higher ups to include more iconic things. I mean it is EA, they would prioritize marketability over story....still amazed that Fallen Order turned out as amazing as it did.

Hey #askeck ... Did fallen order show the gun batteries of those ISDs? If not I'll say just view them as ISD 1.00. Empire original ISD design didn't have tractor beams and this caused problems so they did a minor design change and plunked tractor emitter on top. Enter the ISD rev 1.2. the new "standard" while ISD II design was going on. By the time of A New Hope as you mentioned ISD Refit Final ver moved the tractor beam emitter as Engineers had been getting complaints for years that the placement of the tractor beams on the 1.2 caused interference with their sensors when active.

I am not like into the lore this deep, but I have a trained eye on these aesthetics. And the ISD happens to be one of my all time favorite sci-fi space ships. So when I’m looking up images to satiate my eye hunger for Star Destroyers, i was always irked on the inconsistencies between images. It’s good to know they are different ships.

I also have an issue with Fallen Order, mostly the fact that they're using the alien character designs from the Disney era (the weird bald monkey with 4 arms, the generic brown yak-like faces etc.). It's a shame because the Prequels and the OT had a huge variety of non-human alien designs. TBH I kinda wish Cere was a twi'lek instead of another human.

I got the impression the Second Sister used the only TIE Interceptor in service. Since there's a fair few prior examples of Inquisitors being issued prototypes. That ISD model over Nur and Kashyyk was a disaster though. In that shot when you fly under it it looks like a model from X-Wing Alliance or something. Really jarringly low-detail and weirdly lit.

I understand your point completely. especially as someone who would like to see more focus on the military art of star wars, its disappointing. a game that really infuriated me was Battlefield V, where you saw in the intro, a Tiger I in Norway 1940 ? and Aftrica Libya 1941? also there were Shermans in that scene, that also weren´t supposed to bethere. now, it is pretty clear to me, why they did this. simple lazyness. the Tiger is recignisable and they didn´t want to make new models. simple lazyness, that is completely inexcusable froma company as big as EA and DICE. now after reviewing the scene, there IS actually a Pnazer IV F2 model in the Libya scene, which just infuriates me even more. so...did they not do their research, or did they just not give a shit? yeah. stuff like this just grinds my gears.

What bothers me most is that the campaigns of both Battlefield V and Battlefront 2 have such disregard for their source material. I can forgive being lazy with a trailer, and multiplayer gameplay need not be that accurate for games like these, but can they really not even try to portray history/lore correctly in singleplayer?

yes, it is frustrating. especially BF V as it is about a real historical scenario. I have no problem with adapting the source material to make it fit better, but I can not understand why they did what they did. for example in the intr of the campagne they show Norway in 1940 and then there is a tiger tank. in Norway 1940. also every british soldier there has a Sten gun, that wasn´t in service till 1941. then there was another scene of libya saying it was 1941with a tiger tank at the battle of Tobruk, fighting Shermans, that also weren´t in service at that time. also there are Panzer IV F2s in the battler who also shouldn´t be there. now there is no excuse for this, this is pure and simple lazyness. they wanted to quickly show those early battles, but not actually put any effort in it and make accurate models. its easy to see why they did thsi. they went with what people know. everyone knows what a tiger and sherman is and the Panzer IV F2 is also well known. but why depict them in battles they did not participate in? I also have an answer for that. marketing. they had this dumb slogan "showing untold battles" and such. and it would have been nice to see the early waryears shown in a high budget campagne, but aside from handwavily acknowlaging that WW2 did run during the 40s at least, they did not commit to it at all and despite their "TeLlInG uNtOlD bAtTlEs" marketing bullshit, they did the exact same 1944 stuff we have seen countless time, to include the recognisable hardware. I see through that bullshit and I am gonna call them out on that. what is really infuriating, is that those fanboys are defending that bullshit for some reason. I would really like a big budget titel telling the lesser known parts of WW2. now, the norway campagne was a good idea, but was totally perverted. aside from the female character thing that went on there, in the aftercredits they made it sound like the operation prevented the Germans from coming up with a nuclear bomb first, which is not the case. truth is, despite the bravery of the british commandos, who went there in reality and the marvelouse sucess, the real impact of the operation was non existent. there was no nuclear race, because it was barely procecuted by the germans. that is twisting history right there. you see there is a huge rabbithole to go down there, and you kindeled my history rage.

Well in Legends Mace Windu was noted to be the youngest Jedi Master the Order ever had (at 28) and was on the Jedi Council by 44 BBY so him being on the Council in canon during Master and Apprentice doesn't seem too contradictory.

Which is true for a lot of things. Star Wars has had issues with canon consistency since the beginning, more or less. I was active on the X-Wing Alliance Upgrade forums in the late 90's/early 2000's and there were discussions of hundreds of posts about the various little differences and inconsistencies of the same ships across various media as they tried to find concensious of how to depict them. Heck, I think the ISD 1 and 2 had the same 3D models in the X-Wing games, as did the VSD 1 and 2. The differences were only in the stats. And this was loooong before Disney were involved and The Phantom Menace was brand new. Just look at the history of the Super Star Destroyer and how its official size in that period ranged from 8km to 17.6km

Not completely. Force Unleashed PS2 had the Executor in it which is 2 years before A New Hope, but the expanded universe explains that the Executor was commissioned after A New Hope. The Xbox and PS2 versions of that game conflicted. PS2 has an operational Executor, the Xbox version had an Executor under construction.

While I'm not necessarily hung up on those particular details, I can certainly understand why it would bother you. And once somebody points something out that I hadn't paid too much attention to, I tend to notice it more often and it starts to annoy me as well. Like Fallen Order. I just started playing and now that's going to probably irk me at least in a minor way. I also feel it can be endemic of how invested those in charge respect the material. It shows me they don't care as much as say Filoni or Favreau who routinely drop extremely subtle Easter eggs and nods to the older material.

Changing everything essnetially overnight also makes sense when you realise it's not happening quite how you think. Palpatine has been planning this for years, and wants to immediately make it clear that the empire is not the republic, he would have began production of empire era tech long before the empire officially began, and just kept it hidden, like he did with the Venators before the clone wars. So the few hundred thousand or million clones with their mk2 armour, would be easy to re-equip with the "new" storm trooper armour that was probably designed and put into production before the war ended. As for why it's so different, that's simple. The clone armour was designed to be effective, and used in war, so a high unit cost was acceptable, clones were hard to replace, so good armour makes them last longer. Storm troopers though, are basically disposable, the armour needs to look intimidating, but doesn't actually have to hold up nearly as well as clone armour, it needs to be cheaper, your not producing 1 or 2 million suits now, your producing potentially 100 million or more (just crewing the 30000 + star destroyers needed 30million storm troopers). As for the ships, it's only natural some wouldn't match up to basic designs, look at modern warships, dispute having a fixed class, nearly every ship in a class has some unique features, you get many variants of the same ship. Infact having every ship be the same is if anything less realistic. As for the Inqusitors, having advanced ships makes sense, they would get early prototypes allotted to them and their personal forces.

Each of those locations logically has an Inquisitor at it, and they have their personal forces out and about looking for you, and they may have loaned their TiE to one of their pilots, after all they aren't using it all the time, and probably have been requested to get lots of test data for it from both themselves and normal pilots if possible.

TIE Interceptors weren't put into service until about the time of the Battle of Yavin. Having them in service for anyone nearly 15 years before their introduction to the fleet is ridiculous. Also, suggesting inquisitors would use unshielded starfighters without hyperdrives is nonsensical. Finally, X1 Vader flew was a prototype. While there may have been a couple of copies of it, there weren't any others in service with the Empire.

They were also using them chronologically after this in the timeline, so it makes no real sense that they'd go from using a "newer" style production ship to then somehow having an "older" prototype ship as their primary service vehicle. I mean, sure, assuming that either were available, it would be possible, but... it would be nonsensical, I'd think.

Consider that everything IN canon has an in-universe date attached to it, a comprehensive visual timeline would be easy to establish for content creators and writers. If you're going to anchor your story around a date then you can easily research what was and wasn't available during that time. It's a bit like seeing a WWII movie and watching a Korean War era MIG fly through the scene.

Star Destroyers have always been a bit jerky, and really it’s weird that both Imperial-I and Imperial-II were in service at the same time. Usually ships tend to be phased out by the standard of years, unless the Star Destroyers are able to phase to between both model. Perhaps both Imperial Star Destroyers were modulated, meaning that Imperial-I could be made into Imperial-II in a short time.

A lot of Imperial 1s got Imperial 2 Octuple Barbette turbos and scanning arrays, and the slightly shifted secondary armament. Usually the only remaining difference is the engines still having the tell-tale ISD-1 flaps.

That's not all that uncommon. It takes a lot to build a new class of anything and until enough of a new class has been built the older class will serve alongside the newer one. Sometimes, even when there is a new class that has completed its production run the older class sometimes still serves alongside. Another thing that happens in real life that people don't take account for are changes or upgrades to a class over the years. In the US ships are built in what's called flights with each flight representing a particular configuration for a given class of ship. Sometimes the changes between flights is all internal and not really noticeable while other times there are noticeable exterior differences. A good example of this is the difference between a Flight I Los Angeles class SSN and a Flight III LA, the Flight III moved the dive planes from the sail (conning tower) to the front of the bow and has vertical launch tubes in the front where the Flight I only had torpedo tubes. In the case of ISDs, they could have easily been built in flights with newer flights being slightly different from the older ones while still being the same class of ship.

Nothing jerky about it, the ISD-I rolled out at the very end of the clone wars and had an armament of lighter guns, the ISD-II was the same base design but built to a more modern spec with heavier guns and a twice as powerful broadside due to the switch to from 4x turrets to 8x turrets on the main guns. ISD-I production had gone for decades, then once the II rolled out production lines switched over and ISD-Is started recieving components from the IIs design during refits, but a refitted I would still be a bit weaker than a stock II.

Did the armor gradually change from Phase II clone armor to stormtrooper armor after the clone wars instead of just switching straight to stormtrooper armor?

Yeah, this doesn't even happen in real life militaries. Normally just update the new uniform and everyone switches to it and everyone who is new, gets the new uniform, not the old ones. Considering that the stormtroopers are humans and not clones, they would get the new uniforms, especially since Palpatine had been planning this for a long time, makes sense that he would have already had that commissioned. Plus, we don't see any clones, but I'm sure the clones would still have the old uniforms.

And clones went from phase 1 to 2 armor in like 2 years, so it’s not that crazy for there to already be new armor in a five year period.

Imperial 1 destroyers are white. 2's are blue. (Well, alright, a light blue-grey, but the difference is quite distinct) Imperial 1 destroyers have a vertical orientated tractor beam sensor. 2's carry them flat. (There is the suggestion that the array is articulated, which would render the point moot, but there's no canon evidence of that.) Imperial 1 destroyers have cup shaped main engine nozzles, 2's have tubular ones. (with three recessed foils inside the engine) Imperial 1 destroyers have a completely recessed bridge. 2's have a prominant bulge. Imperial 1 destroyers have completely spherical shield domes. 2's have slightly oblate domes, featuring a series of vertical spines. Sorry this is kind of unrelated to the video but I think it's just a great idea. How about a video of theorizing a perfectly designed space army? Design the main cruisers, their ground forces, the smaller fighters, maybe even the economy and society that would sustain such army, while limiting ourselves to modern physics rules with the only exception being faster than light traveling(of course, things that are unknown to physics today are free to be fictionized in every way). I believe AIs and droids would probably be the best option for the main backbone of the army. But their design would obviously be insanely different from what we normally see in fiction(for start, they would not be humanoid).

Playing devils advocate here... the Imperial I was actually designed towards the end of the Clone Wars as the Imperator Class correct? So maybe seeing the Imperial II at Kashyyyk were early production or prototype models used based on the Wookie slave trade for the Death Star being so important to the Emperor? As for Admiral Versio’s Star Destroyer, maybe it was a variant or being an Admiral he was able to customize it to some extent. It seemed much better at starfighter defense than your average Imperial ship, shooting down his own daughter. I do agree that companies are using shortcuts these days or not fully researching models before using them. That being said, keep up the work. Don’t always agree with your conclusions when “hard” canon data is unavailable but your videos make people think one way or the other and what more could someone actually want.

I did wonder about the TIE Interceptor when I was playing Fallen Order. I'm not clued up when it comes to the timeline by any means but I was always of the impression the Interceptor was a model introduced during the time of the Rebellion, given we didn't even see it in the OT until the Battle of Yavin. Aside from the regular TIE Fighters perhaps we could have seen some V-Wings in Imperial colours like we did at the end of Episode III, given that even five years following the end of the Clone Wars its hard to imagine the entire Imperial inventory being entirely replaced with newer Imperial classes of warships and equipment. Stormtroopers are fine I guess I didn't really have an issue with that, however seeing Victory class Star Destroyers would have been sick, given that we never really get to see them despite their introduction late in the Clone Wars.

Spoilers: don't read if you don't want to see some spoilers... but it's been 2 years, get with the program. Basically, Desert Scavenger chick teams up with a traitor and a Resistance droid, find a saber that was lost ages ago (and honestly, who could find that? Would have been more likely dropped further into Bespin) and fights a trained Dark Jedi with a badass saber and the mentality of a toddler and wins despite having no training, then saves the traitor (who wakes up in some weird bacta suit) and gets off the planet that is basically another death star but bigger before it explodes due to some torpedoes hitting stuff. Oh, and some patricide. Then the bad guys find their base, but can't bombard it due to some Resistance gunner-turned-bombardeer having the willpower to grab a dropped remote (looked like it was out of arm's reach) and dropped bombs in space onto the bad guys's ship then dying. Rey finds Luke, but he's grouchier than my grandpa, finds out her parents are nobodies (maybe?). Kylo turns swol, have some conversation using the force. Meanwhile, a fleet chase scene ensues, giant 10km wide ships keeps tracking the fleet, then traitor wakes up and tries to flee, but is stopped by gunner's sister. They then fly to a casino where they try to find a hacker, but find a conman, save horses (but not the child slaves AND wasting time...), get betrayed, almost lose their heads until some purple haired chick space Kamikazes their ship into the big ass ship, chrome chick dies, land on planet full of salt, all hope seems lost then Luke appears! Nah, just his force projection. AT-M6 (big AT-AT with big gun. Looks like a gorilla with a geonosian Sonic cannon strapped to it) fire on him. He toys with Kylo using a blade that was already destroyed when Kylo tried to take it from Rey... Rey evacutes like 16 people and that's it for now. Tbh, I liked TFA and it was setting up a story... But TLJ pretty much made me go "what the freaky deaky fuck is going on here?!" Feels more like a Star Wars spinoff than trilogy material now, sadly. Just another "Star Wars story"

Huh. Never noticed any lore mistakes but I did notice the design mistakes. I think as far as lore goes, they can edit it later and Wookieepedia is good enough for me in the meantime. I would say "cut them some slack" but there are some pretty dumb mistakes. Maybe they're being rushed and they get sloppy, I don't know, but after reading the amazing concept art books for the new movies I probably expect too much from modelers and artists. That's not to say things can't get better, it's just a shame.

I’m with you on minor inconsistencies with ships in Star Wars properties. I spent the late eighties early nineties pouring over every piece of technical data I could find on the ships. Most of it was West End role playing game books, and Starlogs to a lesser degree. So I notice things others don’t which has led to my friends shaking their heads and saying “only you” quite a bit, lol

Something that would have been cool to see was a mix of phase II and stomtrooper armor in enemy squads. I don't think they needed an in between armor set. In real life when a military changes equipment it can take a long time for everything to be swapped. When i was getting out the US Army they had just began the swap between the UCP uniform and the multi cam and so it was very common to see "mixed units" where some were wearing one style and the rest another.

While this is a nitpicky point, I think the core-problem you are mentioning here really is important: Star Wars *loves* to stick to a handful of super iconic designs. I pretty sure that is one of the reasons we so rarely see the Empire deploying a proper and diverse fleet roster or why so many worlds in an entire galaxy look so very similar to one another. Star Wars media, especially games, should try and embrace the diversity of the setting and really lean in to it.

I definitely agree with you, jedi fallen order apparently takes place 5 years after revenge of the sith so the fact that we didnt see the empire use the some clone wars vehicles kind of disappointed me but it was good to see purge troopers which are believed to be the last batch of clone troopers and the rebels we see in jedi fallen order use laat's and DC-15s blaster rifles
