I agree with you. What I really like about this show is that it doesn't feel restricted to follow one set of characters and instead shows us a world of war where big and important events can happen anytime at radically different places. We can go from huge scale army battles to a quiet and suspenseful duel in a dense jungle with Ventress to a game of hide and seek (and stay alive) with Grievous to the pretty much iconic looking initiation of Anakin as a jedi knight. Also, this show's General Grievous has got to be my favorite character in the franchise PERIOD. In my opinion he is only rivaled by Vader and Palps in terms of intimidation and presence. But against what Lucas said - that he doesn't want a Vader-copy - this Grievous is still unique enough to be his own distinctive flavor of badass. Where Vader rarely needs to run or dodge, Grievous sticks out by completely dominating his opponents with his sheer speed and mobility. Where Vader relies on an even mix of force powers and lightsaber skill, Grievous uses his cyborg body to wield lightsabers to their fullest potential. And where Vader is all clad in black, Grievous shines with that clean militaristic looking white and bulky armor, not to mention his size. In all other media, he always looks like a dirty hunched over bootleg bionicle that's frail and flimsy.

Durge was basically invincible. Anakin literally had to throw him into a star in the EU in order to kill him for good. Gen'Dai are as close to immortal as you can get in Star Wars, apart from Force Ghosts. Maybe if you separate Durge's severed body parts on different planets you could kill him since he wouldn't be able to put himself back together but anything short of that or incinerating every atom of his body just won't be enough.

@@oldboi4365 I wholeheartedly agree. I have and will continue to love and enjoy CW, turn my brain off and let loose with it, but there are many moments in CW that annoyed me profusely. One moment that always comes to mind is when Mace is literally taking on an entire droid army by himself, punching through them with his bare hands, running like The Flash constantly and jumping at heights taller than that of skyscrapers. Honestly, if Mace was really THAT powerful, then he should've just gone to Geonosis himself and saved his friends single-handedly and not bring the whole jedi order along with an army of clones lol. I like the over the top action but man, it just doesn't compare with TCW's level of realism, suspense and excitement. I feel so much more invested in characters that can actually take a beating and actually struggle to overcome their challenges and defeat their enemies. That's how it is in real life too.

We never see her do anything anywhere that's even half as impressive as fighting a dozen Magnaguards at once in Dave Fuckloni's Clone Wars. Hell, in the "official" canon, they severely underpowered her. Remember The Force Unleashed, where Shaak Ti had reached Yoda level powerful and it was implied that she was holding back against the "poor boy" who was sent to kill her? By that point, she could give Darth Sidious himself a run for his money.

1:38: Luminara... I miss pre-TCW 2008 Barriss Offee. She never got corrupted and thus died on Felicia via Order 66 in my book. 3:17: Republic Commando players would always call "HACKS!!!" at that moment. 4:10: This feud gets more personal if you read the Republic comics, which then concludes with the Dreadnaughts at Rendili arc and the Obsession comics. 6:11: Obi-Wan vs. the Mandalorian science-enhanced (and also Mando-hating), Jedi-killing,1,000+ year old, and hard-to-kill Gen'Dai assassin Durge. (He gets killed by Anakin later on via escape pod to a star on the Obsession comics; it has to be seen to be believed). 6:55: Gotta love that space battle zooming shot. Shame there are only Venators and Providences though. Grievous not killing Anakin and Obi-Wan makes sense with the lung damage and also exact orders not to kill them by one Darth Sidious. Plus, the latter was sent against him on Utapau because of his mastery of Soresu, a defensive Jedi lightsaber combat style, his acceptance of the will of the Force letting him through to the otherwise daunting challenge, and Anakin being much needed on Coruscant... we all know how that went.
@tomnorton4277Ай бұрын
I don't want Barriss dead but turning to the Dark side was idiotic on Dave Fuckloni's part. Barriss was one of the most gentle Jedi in the Order, so it's completely out of character.

@@BullSession Hoping Durge appears in The Mandalorian's 2nd season. Here's how I'd do it: three parter. Part one, Mando teams up with a guy claiming to be Boba Fett, only for him to be slain by the grizzled old, Sarlaac acid scarred real deal right at the end, imposter revealed to be Jodo Kast (Legends copycat). Second part, Boba seeks Mando's aid in tracking/slaying Durge who, even now, is still pursuing his eons old grudge against Mandalorians, exterminating whole secret cells, women & child included (Anakin sand people killing reference). Part three, epic final throwdown. Durge's armor gets destroyed, at which point, he's portrayed as a Ray Harryhausen styled stop motion creature. He kills Fett just as Mando contains Durge inside an airtight capsule. Boba, gripping Mando's hand, does peacefully. Mando gives Fett a warrior's funeral (Vader burn, burn). He chucks Durge into the nearest sun, ending his threat for good.

In Grievous' defense, in the microseries, Dooku told Grievous that to be able to best the Jedi, he must have fear, surprise, and intimidation on his side. If he was lacking in any one of them, it would be best to retreat. My reasoning behind Grievous being less badass in the movie, even when the 2003 version was canon, was because Anakin and Obi-Wan didn't fear him. From what I know, fear clouds a Jedi's vision and they are unable to use the Force clearly to predict their opponents attacks. That's the canon explanation for why Palpatine was able to take out three Jedi in two seconds and I'm guessing that's the case here. However, when a Jedi is in control of their fear, they are able to focus and Grievous loses that advantage. When the Jedi first met Grievous on Hypori, they had no idea who he was, and they were already afraid before they confronted him and then he straight up crushes one of them and then disappears into the shadows. I would be pretty scared. Then he drops down from the ceiling and starts spinning his ribcage and doing a whole bunch of other stuff that catches the Jedi completely off guard because they've never seen anything like it before. His fighting style is erratic and unpredictable. Then when he breaks in to Palpatine's office, Shaak Ti is there and she is a survivor of the first attack, so she's already afraid which makes the other two Jedi afraid. And I bet hearing Grievous tear through the clones didn't help either. Then he pulls the four arm trick and you can tell the other two Jedi are scared. And while this might be a bad example, I'm still gonna use it anyway. But when Mace comes, while he doesn't actually fight Grievous, he still cripples him. Grievous turns around is ready to fight. He even pulls out all four arms to try and intimidate him, but Mace isn't afraid and just crushes his chest cavity, and then Grievous retreats. And while he was probably incapable of fighting since he was injured, it was the first time a Jedi fearlessly stood up to him and he ended up retreating. And that might be another reason why he ran in the beginning of RotS. When RotS came out, the micro series was still canon, so if we're pretending for a second that it was still canon, then perhaps Grievous was still recovering from Mace's attack and wasn't in the best condition to fight. And maybe, his fighting style got less wild because he couldn't breathe as easy as he used to, so he was forced to tone it down a bit. We know the same thing happened with Anakin. After getting burned and becoming Darth Vader, from what I know, he had to completely recreate his lightsaber fighting style because of the suit's restrictions. The same thing could've happened to Grievous in the old canon. Another thing to back Grievous up in the new canon is, 1) he was usually pit against Jedi (in the 2008 series) who were in RotS, so he couldn't kill them. 2) He was always put in situations where, if he didn't retreat, he wouldn't be alive to be in RotS. In some ways, I still consider at least the Grievous moments in the 2003 series to be canon because there are ways to work it out that make some sense. As for his first appearance, it takes place before Anakin is knighted, which he already was at the beginning of 2008, so it's possible Grievous didn't have his cough. And while he still doesn't have it at the end of the Clone Wars when he breaks into Palpatine's office, I'm willing to ignore that fact if it means I can watch it in a marathon. A very complicated marathon since I'll be watching Siege of Mandalore, the Battle of Coruscant, and Revenge of the Sith, pretty much at the same time, but I'm a Star Wars fan, I'll make it work. And if Disney can disregard canon, then so can I.
@Bucket_Buffoon2 жыл бұрын
Shaak Ti being at the Senate's abduction was, at least, canonized by the final CW2008 season. Could be wishful thinking but I'd like to think there's a Dee Bradley Baker Fordo floating out there in the Disney Canon. He's a chad and deserves to survive the death of the good continuity.
@michaelandreipalon3592 жыл бұрын
It might feel a little weak if you're more into TCW 2008 and Disney Canon/the Alt-universe, but if you're very much into the Legends continuity and especially its CW Multimedia Project content, it actually gets better with all the foreknowledge and hindsight one gets with such an expanded universe. With that in mind, I prefer this, novels like the Dark Lord trilogy (consists of Labyrinth of Evil, the Revenge of the Sith novelization, and Dark Lord: Rise of Darth Vader), the 1998/Republic comics, and games like Battlefront II 2005 and Republic Commando over the TCW 2008 any day. Also, the recently released Tales of the Jedi miniseries feels like a travesty, especially with that title that belittles a rough yet otherwise charming Old Republic era comic books series.

GodhandPhemto rogue one I love but I prefer Kyle Katarn’s story about getting the plans do I don’t accept it in my head canon but it’s still great

@@EmperorFist323 Yeah I forgot about the Madalorian, sure add that one in as well as the OG EU comics and books, although some of those stories were meh. But non of the new comics, because they try to rewrite shit like Palpatine was a puppet and I cannot forgive that.

I generally prefer more emphasis on character development but I'll give this a watch once it comes to Disney+.

It's all action yet they somehow do Anakin's story better than the cg series and the movies.

Sometimes I wonder what would happen if Tartakovsky made a Warhammer 40K show. I imagine it would be 100 times more intense than this.
