Dude I also played this with my dad on PC! We had a piece of paper in the game CD case where we wrote down our lap records with our names next to it, so whenever I'd sit down with the game I'd try to beat my dad's record or vice versa, so we could cross out the other's name. I like to imagine this as an alternate future for Anakin where the Jedi didn't visit Tattooine (say that last laser shot that damaged Qui-gon's Ship just ever so slightly missed), so instead of becoming a Jedi, Anakin Skywalker instead made it big in the Pod Racing scene, married and freed a pretty local slave girl, and lived a decent life outside the notice of the Empire.

Well, releasing Episode I: Racer on GOG or Steam might be a problem, but not because of Disney or LucasArts and their copyright claims (EA has nothing to do with Episode I: Racer). The gameplay and atmospere of Episode I: Racer is marvelous, however, this game has a lot of issues... First, the game development. LucasArts had developed Episode I: Racer for two years, but still rushed the final development stages so it could hit the stores along with the official theatrical release of Episode I itself in the USA (and along with Episode I: The Phantom Menace and Episode I: The Gungan Frontier as well). That lead into several performance bugs, graphic glitches and stability issues, which have never been fixed in early weeks and months after release IIRC. Although the game has received many positive reviews and awards, it slowly drifted into oblivion...three years later, when Episode II had been released, nobody remembered it at all, including myself. Second, the inadaptibility for modern systems. Since it has not been treated as one of the LucasArts fine jewels and due to lack of patching and fixing the bugs, Racer could not keep up with the hardware and software development. I remember trying to run it on old Asus F3 laptop about 4 years ago. That laptop had 2,4 GHz dual core CPU, 4 GB of RAM, Intel GMA integrated graphics and OS WinXP - shitty piece of junk at that time, but ample for that game. It wasn't much a pain in the ass to lauch it, but making it playable was a true hell! It took me about a week with a help from Vogons.org community to fully fix it! Imagining that every single person who wants to play this game nowadays must go through similar obstacle course as myself, and maybe even worse since both HW and SW have advanced much more since - well, good luck! That is why GOG nor Steam do not wanna make Episode I: Racer available for purchase in current state, because in order to make it playable for masses, it would mean to radically solve all these issues, which could easily turn into nothing more than a huge waste of time, energy and resources, not to mention how much it would cost if they would have decided to sell it after all...how much would you be willing to pay for it, btw? IMO better would be to remake the game using some latter, more stable and reliable engine and to release it as Special Edition, just like they did with Monkey Island 1 and 2. Besides, next year will be 20th anniversary of Episode I's theatrical release - can you imagine what a marketing move it would be if they could manage to do so?

I loved this game as a kid. i never finished it though Side Note: Can someone please explain how the Junkyard works. Why does the podracer stats keep changing after every race. One minute the top speed bar is full and after the next race it's way lower etc Also why is there a: Buy parts, Vehicle Upgrades and Junkyard What's the difference
@archangel24273 жыл бұрын
So if you notice, each part has a health bar next to it when you select it. The health bar goes down during races because the part is being used. That's why low level parts that are fresh and new will raise your stats higher than a burnt out, "better" part you've been racing with for awhile. The shop will have a variety of parts that are all new (health bar is full and green). The junkyard is all used parts (health bars are all different levels). The vehicle upgrades screen will take you to the hangar bay and show you all of the parts you have at the same time. You can select each part and it will show you where on the pod that part is. I always felt like you should be able to do more on the vehicle upgrades screen, like I always felt like I was missing something, but maybe it really is just for you to look at your pod up close.
