The thing that really got to Anakin the most that pushed him over the edge was the suffering and loss of his mother and the overwhelming (FEAR) of losing those he loves the most, which naturally at that time was Padme. The Emperor capitalized on those fears to turn him totally down the path of the Darkside and it turned out he became the unwitting agent of the very thing he feared the most and became a powerful conduit for the Darkside or spirit, which hardened him into a brutal self-centered, self-absorbed, murdering tyrant. That is why Yoda told him when he was a youngling. “Fear is the path to the dark side… fear leads to anger…anger leads to hate… hate leads to suffering”.

Dooku realized who his master truly was and that he had been played all along... That's why he looked so shocked, you are on point. He also realized that he was gonna be replaced by Anakin... Dooku was just a temporary replacement for Maul and a reveered figure behind which the Separatists could align without fear. Anakin is about 23 here. Obi Wan dies on a Death Star, Vader and Palpatine die on a Death Star, "his fate will be the same as ours" has also that meaning ! Obi Wan knew that there was something between Anakin and Padmé but didn't know the full detail. He didn't report Anakin because he knew it could make him happier. And in the Clone Wars, Obi had a love interest of his own and lost it in tragic circumstances... Watch the CGI series to know more. Nowadays politicians get pregnant all the time without necessarily having an official relationship. Even with the technology, nowadays, some women don't want to know the gender or the number of foetuses until they come out. The opera scene is a masterpiece in acting from Ian McDiarmid. Not all Jedi were the most skilled at Light Saber nor all were the most skilled at using the Force. They try to be at least average good in what isn't their strength and develop the rest. Yoda fights well but he's the best at just using the Force. Obi-Wan never was the most powerful Force User but he was one of the best at Saber defensive style, hence why sending him to fight Grievous was the right move, he pretty much was the only Jedi which Grievous didn't steamroll down (watch the non CGI animated series Clone Wars, different from the other one but still shows a great deal of story telling, Grievous there is a real menace, the equipavent of a Terminator...) The Sith had their asses kicked serveral times by the Jedi in the past, Darth Bane created the Rule of Two to prevent the Jedi to see the Sith rising again, sharing power only between two people, the Master to wield the Power and the Apprentice to crave it and whose goal is ultimately to take an Apprentice of his own and take down his Master. The stratagem took a millenium to slowly take over and get the Galaxy to fall under the Sith rule once again, meanwhile, the Jedi were totally oblivious of it, the Sith masked their presence and let the Jedi be consumed by their arrogance after having no real challenger for a thousand years straight. There are several deleted scenes you might want to watch on YT that show Padmé dealing with other politicians and come to the conclusion by herself that something isn't right. She even comes to distrust her former Senator and not really liking to see Anakin brooding in his shadow... Also, there was a sub plot that they threw away to not confuse fans about Luke and Leia's paternity. The plan was to make people, and Anakin, believe that Obi-Wan could have been Padmé's lover to have an incentive of making him jealous. You can see hints of that in some scenes. Mastering the Pleaguis plan would take years... Not enough time for Anakin to master before it is too late. Palpatine lied to Anakin, he had no plan to really tell him anything when he had the opportunity to subvert the Rule of Two for his own gain... Palpatine is there for himself only. Even Anakin is just a toy.

Great video. I think I read somewhere that it's Naboo tradition that things like pregnancy and romantic relationships are treated as deeply personal and is considered very rude to even ask about. The father of Padme's children was her business. I do agree that Palpatine's machinations were brilliant, evil as they were. He helped set up the situation for the war, playing both sides. He created an army that the Jedi were forced to trust. He used the system to destroy the system. In the end, they willing hand him everything.

I've seen many reactions to this movie and I love how you acknowledge how dangerous Palpatine is and his ability to manipulate. Throughout the prequels, he's manipulating the Senate, the Jedi Council, the Separatists and Anakin. He is very sneaky using the Dark Side, "Quicker, easier, more seductive..."

Kemi your insight serves you well. I’m on the edge of my seat to see your reaction to the next part. While I know that Palpatine was only using Anakin as means to achieve his goal in conquering the galaxy, the Jedi Council were no better as they too were using him as means to ensure peace that they no longer could keep. I honestly believe that given Anakin’s situation of having so much expectations as well as the fact that he was older than a Jedi Youngling normally begins training as well as having strong emotional ties to his mother that the Jedi Council should’ve trained him in a unorthodox manner. An example would be his emotional attachments; instead just plainly teaching him that it’s forbidden, they should’ve taught him that when blindly acting upon your emotions, it could lead to regretful repercussions. 🌌🛸😴💭😰⚔️💙❤️

Palpatine is about 20 moves ahead of where everyone else is - especially the Jedi. And this was so, from the very beginning. (The Will of the Force, is actually ahead of Palpatine, and always was. But, the Will of the Force is something that we never directly see, and is not a "character" in the Star Wars films - not in the usual sense. We can only see the Will of the Force by taking in Episodes I thru 6 as a complete story, and think of the six films as a unified whole.) Palpatine’s nominating Anakin to be his personal representative on the Jedi Council, was a chess move. A top-level chess player’s move will accomplish multiple things with one move, and that’s what happened here. Each thing that the move accomplished, was something that Palpatine wanted and was part of his plan: 1) Palpatine’s action increased the feelings of division between Anakin and the other Jedi. 2) The move also served to increase a feeling of closeness between Anakin and Palpatine. “Palpatine wouldn’t give this job to just anyone. He must really, really value me. His actions suggest that I’m more important to Palpatine, than to any of the Jedi.” 3) The film doesn’t cover this detail, but the novel version of the story does: If Anakin had been granted the rank of Master, that privilege would have granted him access to parts of the Jedi library that are only open to Masters. Those areas deal with the Dark Side of the Force, the abilities that a user gains from them, etc. In other words, in Anakin’s mind, the Jedi Council’s blocking him from the rank of Master, is denying him the only thing he really wants, and wants VERY badly: the information needed to save Padme’s life. Note that the Jedi could have returned to Tattooine after the events of Episode I, and freed Anakin’s mother (by buying her freedom, if necessary). They chose to not do this. (Did Palpatine use the Dark Side to manipulate the Jedi years ago, so that they’d decide against freeing Anakin’s mother? Was that also part of Palpatine’s pre-arranged plan?) Now, again the Jedi are making a decision that will, Anakin thinks, result in the ONE and ONLY woman in his life dying prematurely, when that outcome could have been avoided. So, the Jedi are more loyal to some abstract code, than they are to him - a flesh-and-blood person who is supposedly one of them. The Jedi may be (they are) the Good Guys, but they are not ‘good’ with regard to him. Their failure to ‘pay any price, bear any burden’ to rescue his mother, and to rescue Padme, are not the actions of friends or of family, as we understand these things.

Judging by the movies I think the Jedi didnt appreciate Anakin enough, which was one reason as to why the praise from Palpatine had such an outstanding effect on him.The Jedi kept disregarding his deeds, calling him "young apprentice" and "young padawan" which insinuates and reaffirms his lower level despite the greatness he achieved during the clone wars and basically surpassing Obi-Wan in every field except self-control. Obi-Wan praised him twice in this movie after the intro segment, but other than most Anakin hears from his Jedi peers and superiors is kind of belittling. Especially in ep 2. You dont need to call someone apprentice every sentence, you can compliment someone for their bravery, skill or strength without that. Then again, the Jedi are inhumane. They dont want you to have strong feelings in any direction, only to be a mind-slave to their own, old and rigid rules and doctrines. You basically have to be a programmed droid wielding a light-sabre. If the Jedi order didnt shun feelings and attachment they could have developed ways to prevent many Jedi turning into Sith. Basic human psychology is all you'd need to create a new peace-keeping order of force sensitive protectors, one that embraced the full spectrum of emotions that humans, and humanoids in this fantasy universe can feel, that way the ones struggling like Anakin could get actual help and support instead of being told "Just stop caring", because that's something a large portion of people cannot do as we're not machine and cold-hearted demons. It's definitely a contributing factor, the total neglect of negative feelings that make Jedi go bonkers and then lose it totally, thus going to the dark side to exercise the feelings of hate and anger they were forced to lock up inside for so long.
@Fark2005
@Fark2005 11 ай бұрын
I think the movies shows us that the Jedi appreciated Anakin plenty (though certainly not to the level Anakin himself thought he deserved) - he is even given greater responsibility than many Jedi his age it seems, and is given missions such as being entrusted with Padmé’s safety (AotC), rescuing the leader of the Republic from the Seperatists, and spying on Palpatine, who is hording power and is thus slowly, but surely, turning the Republic into a dictatorship (RotS). What they don’t do is stroke his ego - which is what Palpatine does. You say the Jedi keep disregarding his deeds, do you have examples of this? If you sense of worth is diminished because someone calls you what you are (and there is nothing derogatory about being a ‘young apprentice/padawan’) then you have a frigile ego and lack humility, and that is something you need to work on. As Yoda says in ESB: “Wars not make one Great”: being a great Jedi is not about having the greatest Force abilities, or defeating most opponents, or being successful on the battlefield, it is about mastering yourself and defeating the darkness within you so that you will not use your powers for selfish purposes but in aiding others. Ah, yes, and now comes again the good old unsubstanciated claims about the Jedi that seems to flourish on the internet. Unsurprisingly, I disagree with you. Where in the PT or the OT is it shown or said that the Jedi suppressed their emotions? Rather what we see is a focus on emotional control. When Anakin openly admits his fear of loss to Yoda in RotS, he is not told to ignore it, instead he is counselled on how to deal with that fear through learning acceptance. The Jedi are supposed to be in “control, calm and at peace”. Just because they are dispassionate doesn't mean they are void of feelings or emotions, they just know that while it's natural to feel emotions, one cannot allow those emotions to take control of you. Yes, in RotJ, Obi-Wan does tell Luke to bury his “feelings deep down” when facing Vader and Sidious because, while they “do him credit”, the Sith are masters of emotional manipulation and will use his emotions against him. Luke is therefore (wisely) advised to not give them away (which he inadvertently does and immediately Sidious and Vader exploit them, nearly succeeding in turning him to the dark side). Also, in the PT, attachment is not linked to love or bonds in relationships, but to possession and greed, and there is no evidence in the movies to suggest that the Jedi were not allowed to have deep emotional bonds as long as they did not become attached. From what I’ve seen in both the PT and the OT, the Jedi are never taught not to feel, but they learn the dangers of certain emotions and a part of their training is to learn how not to let these emotions cloud their judgement and actions, and not to be ruled by them. I can’t think of any Jedi in Lucas’ SW who does not acknowledge their emotions or tries to supress them, except for the one person who does not want to deal with his emotions, does not follow the Jedi way and instead cherry-picks the parts of the Jedi teachings that suits him, and who seeks power for his own selfish purpose: Anakin. “prevent many Jedi turning into Sith” I’m curious as to who those many Jedi-turned-Sith are? In the PT we have two: Dooku and Anakin. That’s two Jedi among the countless of Jedi that has existed in the milennia the Sith was thought to be extinct. That is an impressive track-record and a pretty good indication that what the Jedi Order was doing was working.

14:20 - This is the first thing you've been wrong about. Obi-Wan was more of Anakin's brother, while Palpatine had slipped into the "father figure" role. 17:40 - If you watch the Clone Wars animated series (which isn't the "kids show" I thought it was, so I recommend watching it at some point), you'll see that there are clues that Obi-Wan knew about Anakin's relationship, as did a few members of the Jedi Council. Okay, this is a MINOR spoiler, but something you asked, and I'm not sure if you'll watch the show or not.... so.... Anyway, Obi-Wan pretty much knew, Yoda highly suspected, and I'm sure they weren't the only ones. It was like a "poorly kept secret" to the Jedi Council. Also, I highly recommend watching the live action series, the animated series, and the Anthology movies, as well. All of them are considered "Canon" (real parts of the overall story). Animated series are: The Clone Wars, The Bad Batch, Tales of the Jedi, and Rebels. For live action series, we've got Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and the brand new Ahsoka series begins tomorrow night. The "Anthology movies" are "Solo: A Star Wars Story", and "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story". Both are good in their own rights. Solo isn't one we NEEDED, but it's a fun movie set in the Star Wars timeline. Rogue One is simply a "must view", because you won't watch Episode IV the same way ever again. It's just THAT damned good! 19:45 - Heh.... Of course she had to have a "Baby Daddy".... She's not Shmii Skywalker. LOL! But seriously, a lot of people didn't actually PRY into Padme's private life, but I'm sure that those closest to her "knew" about her relationship with Anakin. During the entire Clone War, they were very close, and Anakin was quite protective of her. So, I mean, it wasn't hard to sus out who the father was, if you took the time to think about it. 20:40 - The funny thing is, those of us who were alive when the original movies came out, KNEW that Palpatine was the Emperor's name, as it was given away in the novels of the movies, as well as the comic books. So, to us "OG" fans, we knew this going in. So it's kinda funny watching younger people first being introduced to this universe, to have to try and figure it out. 25:55 - Pay attention to these few scenes. Anakin feels insulted by the Jedi Council, and Mace Windu openly states that he doesn't trust Anakin. This will come into play later, but also, remember, Palpatine said, "I need your help, *SON*".... indicating how he feels about Anakin. Yes, Obi-Wan has been Anakin's "Master", training him as a Jedi for 13 years at this point.... but their relationship is still more "brotherly", as opposed to "father and son". Part of the reason for this is that Obi-wan isn't that much older than Anakin, really. He may be about 15 years or so older.... which isn't really that big of an age difference, if you think about it. Anakin is about 23-24 here. Padme is 5 years older than Anakin, but Obi-Wan.... was in his early-mid 20s when he became a Jedi Knight, and took Anakin as his Padawan. 26:40 - First, Palpatine pulls Anakin in one direction, then the Jedi Council pull him in another direction.... and now.... his WIFE is pulling him in a third direction. Everyone seems to be putting Anakin in a position he doesn't want to be in. 28:30 - If you read the books, you'll know that Darth Plagueis was Palpatine's Sith Master. What Palpatine tells Anakin here, is from his own point of view. 30:20 - Also, "He could influence the midichlorians to create.... life." This was a not-so-subtle hint that Plagueis may have been the one to create Anakin in the first place. While it's conjecture, since it's never outright confirmed one way or the other, it's possible that Plagueis either directly created Anakin, or that Anakin was "The Force" responding to such manipulations by a Dark Side user. We may never know for sure. 38:40 - Again, we see Mace Windu doubting Anakin, and pushing hard against him. Displaying once again that he doesn't trust Anakin, and Anakin sees this, reinforcing what he has suspected for some time. 39:35 - Notice, during this scene, Obi-Wan is standing in the light, while Anakin is standing in the shadows....

For any future Star Wars reaction will probably be kind of tricky. The two spinoffs movies, the animated and Live Action TV shows, and Episode 7, 8 & 9. My suggestion would be to do the spinoffs movies first, as they are closer to the movies 6 movies we have now seen. Then we can star with episode 7 and continue to 8 and 9. With Episode 7, 8 and 9, you have probably heard, or soon hear, about the negative feelings people have got from them these past few years. But you should derive your own conclusion and your own feelings towards them, and ignore the opinion that some people want to force upon you.

Your insight is correct about Count Dooku. Dooku was one of the most powerful Force Users who went toe-to-toe with Yoda and Mace Windu, a duelist that even Sidious himself fears, but in that moment when Anakin embraced the Dark Side he finally surpassed him in power, if not in ability. In that Dooku realized that Sidious had planned on Anakin replacing him the whole time once he no longer needed him to run the Separatists. For all his power, and gifts in the Force and in politics, somehow Dooku did not seeing it coming, nor understand that being so good, in both the Force and in politics, that Sidious would never let him live because he was too much of a rival.

Great Reaction! *FYI:* The best cartoon series to have watched between SW chapter 2 and chapter 3 should be "Star Wars: Clone Wars (2003 TV series)" by Genndy Tartakovsky. Not to be confused with "Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008 TV series)" by Dave Filoni. It explains events and newly introduced characters that happen in chapter 3. It is slightly more than 2 hours long in total. George Lucas considers the Filoni 2008 series to be a continuation of the 2003 Tartakovsky series.

I love this style of reactions. I just wish she could see the corruption of the Jedi Council, and how the death of Master Qui Gon was detrimental for Anakin, because he was so much more in tune with the force in its balanced state than the members of the council. Also, some members of the council had been blatantly violating their vows to the Jedi Order for decades. Anakin was a lightweight in those misdemeanors.

@@ScenecrlyK.S.O.Yes, I believe that too, you are correct, and I believe it could be taken as a metaphor for how, in my faith, God always finds a way to fulfill his plans, because Anakin did destroy the Sith after all. However, both Anakin and the Jedi Council had many chances to take the calmer, brighter and more humane path into the fulfillment of the prophecy. That's how I think Qui Gon would have helped Anakin as a commited father figure and not a reluctant brother, as Obi Wan did, because Qui Gon was totally devoted to the force, and was elevated enough to challenge rules when they did not allign with the will of the force. As you pointed yourself, Yoda asked the impossible from Anakin, and Anakin had always been just an inconvenience to everybody, except his mother and Qui Gon. The Jedi Council just paid, as much as Anakin, for disobeying the force.

Keep in mind that the sequels are NOT George Lucas's story. In fact, when Disney bought Star Wars from him, they actually rejected his story treatments for the sequels in favor of letting different directors make up the story of each film as they went along, and it shows. It barely has anything to do with the rest of the saga. After the tragedy of Ep.3, I usually recommend watching "Solo: A Star Wars Story" next. It's what comes next in the timeline anyway, and it's a fun, light-hearted break from all the drama. Then you could watch "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" which is all dramatic again. Or after Solo, you could watch the Obi-Wan Kenobi show, which is like Ep.3.1. Then you could watch The Mandalorian. There are a lot of ways you could go, but you can leave the sequels for last last last. They're the last things in the current timeline anyway.

you wanted to know *who* Anakin's *father* was. you were given the dark answer. in the Opera scene, Palpatine told of The Tragedy of Dark Plaguies The Wise. *he* IS the father of Anakin Skywalker. not genetically though. it was his actions that caused the creation of The Chosen One. in the novel "Star Wars: Darth Plagueis", it is revealed that it was Plagueis' meddling and manipulation of the Force that caused the knee-jerk reaction necessitating the creation of the One who would destroy the Sith. it was foretold that a being of immeasurable power would rise to Balance the Force by removing the Sith and the Force created Anakin to punish the Sith once and for all. the Sith are cancerous or "unnatural" as Palpatine said. they do not obey the Force like every other Force religion, light or dark, they bent and break it to their will. the Force needs relief... Balance. and with the destruction of the Sith, there will be.

Obi-Wan suffered worse than Anakin and stood as jedi, Obi-wan is an exemple. Obi-Wan saw his love die in his front by his nemesis and couldnt do nothing about it, while Anakin literally killed his wife himself because of what his passion made him become. The jedi were right all along, Anakin that was too selfish to accept anything. The jedi are not perfect nobody is, but use that to justify Anakins actions and Blaming the jedi for his fall is to commit the same mistake Anakin did.

I’ve heard some say that it was actually Palpatine who ended Padme. He reached into The Force and exploited the connection between them. From that connection, he used her lifeforce to keep Anakin alive.
