The fact that the empire didn’t equip their troops with thermal imaging is a real George Lucas oversight, imagine some AT-STs with thermals blowing up groups of tightly packed Ewoks waiting in ambush

A primitive force like the ewoks probably wouldn't bunch up like that when ambushing. American Indians used to spread out and make it seem like there was more of them when attacking colonists, to great effect.

You forget...Ewoks are furry...any damp Ewok or wet Ewok or Ewok dipped in viscous mud is going to be nigh invisible to thermal imagery...

Farming will make a great difference to Ewoks and their impact on the galaxy. _Hunting is a great limitation on food supply_ and the numbers that can be sustained, besides it's time consuming, risky and unreliable. But if instead of hunting Ewoks, *they* were farmed in large heards then the supply of Ewok meat could be greatly increased, and they could go from a rare delicacy that has to be sourced by intrepid hunters to a staple that is available on demand. Suitable planets could be cleared and forested, to be used to farm Ewoks, after all free range Ewok is better than factory farmed. Although with Kowakian Monkey Lizard factory farming is the best option, as making the annoying little bastards miserable is worth it just on general principles.

I'm a fan of culture Ewok steaks. Ewok meat factories, "culture vats(?)", can be rapidly and nearly infinitely scaleable. The Rebellion needs to capture the next Death Star and convert into an Ewok meat factory and Ewok meat food truck. Just a little marketing could make this take-off. Call it guilt-free Ewok burgers. Or cruelty-free Ewok steaks. Or it could backfire. Maybe the galaxy's people have convinced themselves that Ewoks taste really good as a pretext to slaughtering as many of those annoying self-righteous Ewoks as possible.

One speculates...as a carnivore,(which I am) are the young Ewoks more tender or are the old Ewoks more flavorful? If one could manipulate Ewok culture to the point you suggest, a sustainable harvest of elderly Ewoks self reporting to euthanasia facilities as an "end of life" ritual, could provide economic support to encourage optimum Ewok breeding population expansion....and like chickens...Ewoks would take over the galaxy...soon being seen in significant populations EVERYWHERE...imported because they are tasty....but then...THEY ARE SENTIENT! and the next thing you know.. the Great Ewok Hegemony is Come!

I was a young Stormtrooper on my first deployment on the planet of Endor. Rough night but those of us who survived feasted on ewok steaks the next morning. Most delicious steak I've ever had. That's why I now run a business bringing in ewok meat.

Interesting that Endor has 85% the gravity of Earth. The short, thick bodies of Ewoks would suggest that they come from a high gravity planet, compared to Earth.

I have actually read studies that have suggested that hunter gatherer societies did not work more or expend more energy than agricultural ones. Some even claim the opposite, that hunter gatherers had even more freetime than today. Of course, I can't remember what these studies were called, but some googling should solve that, if anyone is interested. :)

In my head canon, Wookiees and Ewoks are genetically related species, and Kashyyyk and Endor are in neighboring star systems. This would explain their physical and cultural similarities. BTW, I've never had a problem with the Ewoks. It seems like people just dislike them because they're adorable. No one would have a problem with ROTJ if it had featured technologically primitive Wookiees instead of Ewoks, even though both scenarios (i.e. primitive species defeating the Empire) are equally plausible IMHO.

No..no.. I wrote a short story where Luke Skywalker saves a ewok running in the street from the fancy upper crust restaurant that had accidently let him escape his cage before the people who preordered the meal arrived... so theres atleast one story with it.... whether its officially recognized or not is another matter, fyi Luke buys him and warns them anymore will just be taken for violating dubious laws on eating sentient creatures and brings him to surprise Wedge and the rest of Rogue Squadron with as a surprise

Aww no mention of the Endor Apocalypse comic? the Ewoks weren't waiting for the republic to swoop down as there great white hope. the Ewoks had a coordinated harassment and psychological war fare campaign going against the imperials for months... Patrols would routinely dissapear in the forest with only there bloody helmets planted on spikes infront of the barracks in the morning with out tripping the perimeter sensors as a warning to the storm troopers, and the constent beat of war drums to let the humans know they could never sleep and would never have peace.
