Would be awesome but at the same time I wouldnt trust disney to not butcher it like Sony online did. Not bashing the idea because I would so want an SWG clone but I mean a clone, of pre-revamp SWG, not that cookie cutter crap they forced on everyone that killed the game in the first place. With better graphics though. What we would end up with sadly would be a watered down version filled with loot boxes and micro transactions because these corporations dont know how to be happy with the billions they get from 15 dollar subscriptions

If some company was smart they would remake this game with how it originally was intended! Incorporate all the new lore and ideas into it! Would be amazing :)

They wouldn't be able to make any money from it, legally. That said, it could be created by fans, from scratch, with up to date graphics (no need for anything OTT, though) and animation. You would have to say it's for educational purposes. People getting involved will have the opportunity to learn every aspect of creating that kind of game. Pretty much how the emulator projects work for WoW, and I guess SGW and others. Developed as an educational tool. You'd also need to make it totally open source. Thus allowing others to learn from it and easily contribute. As a programmer and 3D modeler, I'd love get involved in a fan run SWG project. One done from scratch. Hmm, kind of tempted to kick one off myself, but I am not very good at sticking with things :D

Speaking of jump to lightspeed I found out not too long after the Force Unleashed came out that Haden Blackman the creator of the Force Unleashed he had a lot to do with jump to lightspeed that was an amazing part of the game I tell people all the time that no Star Wars space simulator touches jump to lightspeed I mean you can fly out in the middle of nowhere and attack of fucking Star Destroyer and then go mind some asteroids all the way across the galaxy somewhere else it's crazy crafting your own ships bringing up as many people as you can into your Soros sub ship AKA I luxury yacht ship crazy like I said I can talk about this game forever

I loved playing this game and actually met my guild in person after playing together for years. I miss the open play sandbox. Questing and being lead through games is really annoying to me...an updated version of SWG that takes place after Rise of Skywalker would be so amaze-ballz!!!

You should have explained the difference between pre-cu, cu and the NGE. Someone playing the pre-cu is probably going to hate the NGE and vice-versa.

I tried SWG Emu multiple times but people just sit in Mos Eisley cantina and don't play the game. If any server is ever lively and full of people everywhere, I'd hop in ASAP.

That was my experience to a large degree back in 2013 when i tried it, unfortunately, on live back in 2004, you had this idiotic dynamic called "solo grouping" that halfway ruined the whole point of grouping up with other players in PVE, and this made it to the emulators, unfortunately. Back in the day not everyone took advantage of that grouping exploit, so, in the live game days you would find people to group with.

YES! swglegends.com has an extremely active server and continues to add content to the game. You do have some AFKers, but nothing compared to swgemu, which feels lonely and a snapshot of a time long ago. Legends feels like now with activity everywhere. I can't say enough about how much I enjoy this server.

I played this game for months before I ever even did any combat - was playing musician and doctor it was so fun to just hang out and basically have a profession. Crafting was even fun in SWG. Then I discovered creature handler (is that the right name?) and it was all over. lol

I played this game from the month it was reeleased all the way up to the mass exodus brought on by Sony onlines hellish revamp that absolutely no one wanted and thus killed hands down the best MMO ever created to date.Nothing, and I mean nothing ever to exist can even come close to comparing to what SWG was. It literally was a living breathing Galaxy completely player driven and dynamic. People played this game and wre nothing but politicians, some bounty hunters, others soldiers in yet another players army, Planets were fought over, cities conquered, entire industries to support endless wars, All at the hands of the players. In my time playing, My brother and I were a nobodies, worked our way up into perfect gear, bought some ships, explored every planet, lot swapped to build a fortified town, made more friends, built a massive and I mean massive mining sector, Hired other players to manage the mines, built rebel bases, recruited other players as soldiers and built up an army made up of over 50 players, took over tatooine, Invaded naboo and secured that entire planet, raised a fleet of star ships, Had other players who literally just crafted perfect gear and foods for my army,and when it was all said and done I was manage war efforts, finances in the billions, and keeping supply lines moving. At the end during the mass protests I could see Sony wasnt going to listen and painfully made the decision to donate my entire fortune to my second in command because he just didnt want to give up on the game. It literally took 2 days to transfer all the bases and buildings over to him. I still remember the final item I gave him was a bacta tank, literally one of, if not The, rarest item in the game. It was a sad day for everyone. I still hold true to the idea that the ONLY reason WoW became as big as it did was because most who left SWG went to WoW, It was alot of people, so much so that a year later I still ran across familiar names from SWG in WoW and after talking found it was the same person. In fact, it was over a year before I joined guild in WoW and when I did almost half of them had come from SWG. To this day I cant wrap my head around why Sony did what they did nor can I figure out why no other company has even tried to recreate something similar. If someone asked me to name a game that is at least similar to how SWG was, I would say I cant, a game like that doesnt exist.

i like swgemu basilisk server. i just kind of wish everyone would play on one server since the community is so small as it is. it really sucks having the herd spread very thin all around. weather it be legends or swgemu since they are seperate games but it sucks when you see like 10 pre cu servers and 9 nge servers =/ that are kinda populated or as populated as you can get. I wish we could some how get this game back on steam with servers to easily bring in new players

I played Star Wars Galaxies from 2 2003 to 2010 when it turned off and it was the most amazing MMO way before its time, honestly they should remake Star Wars Galaxies in a newer engine I love the game I played on several private servers including blood fin and stardust of course and originally the core 3 I was all over that emu when first was coming out everything about that game is Star Wars and the cannon and the lure and everything you can explore answers a lot about Star Wars that you never would have thought about I could go on for ever about that game the crafting a Jedi grind Forest Village, player cities, player housing, Harvesters shit no game touches that game

Heya thanks for sharing. I never played this before but i heard that SWG was changed during it's lifecycle kinda ruining the game to a degree. Is there a way to know which servers are based on pre changes and which are based on the newer system- Thank you

Yes, when they overhauled the game into what's known as the NGE a lot of people quit. But, by the time the game closed they added a bunch of cool stuff back into the game and TONS of content, which the early version of the game severely lacked. There's really only two servers to play on, the early version swgemu.com, which is fun, but lacks content and the space portion, known as JTL (jump to lightspeed) OR swglegends.com which has a very active fanbase and picks up where the NGE left off when it sunset, plus they've added new items and are even bringing Bespin and Felucia to the game at some point soon. I personally enjoy playing on swglegends, there's so much to do and the community is great, with around 1300 characters logged in at any given time. The things that people mostly gripe about the NGE are that they took like 30 something classes down to 9, but there's really more than that and you can change profession and respec your character at any time. Also, the combat on the early version is jank af. Try both, they're free. I play both, but I have to say that swglegends and the NGE version is just better overall.

I never played this game and i wanna try it, i downloaded the launcher of the Sentinels Republic but i it seems empty, maybe because i started in the planet Naboo, i wanna know if it is worth to play in this server? and for what i understood the pre-cu servers seems better imo.

I'm just going to throw this out there; Project SWG is the first NGE related server to be established, and is probably the only NGE server to be coded from the ground up by hand. Granted... we are still a long ways from getting to where other servers may be, but we definitely feel it will be worth the effort. It's been coded on the Dev's free time, and is still a long ways off before it can truly be playable, but it's a game of patience with the development of the game itself. It's a huge work in progress, but we've got the commitment to make a stable and optimal server that everyone came check out. There are benefits to coding it by hand, but how long it will take is currently unknown.

Legends has NGE as it was when it shut down (without atmospheric flight thank GOD!) plus added content and the most active player base of any emulator. I wish all the NGE lovers would come together and make Legends special and all the pre-CU lovers play on Basilisk and make it special.

While I wish you well with your project , Star wars galaxies died when they introduced the NGE. While I miss certain things from the NGE like deco stuff ships and loot, the core combat mechanic is dreadful and nothing but a poor WOW clone click fest and the profession progression is shocking compared to pre CU. Sadly there is no halfway house here.

Pedro Albuquerque Santos both have their benefits. I would recommend NGE if you’re not super experienced with MMOs. Pre-CU is good for experienced mmo players looking for a more challenging, unconventional system.

PRE-CU given that NGE is pretty much what ruined the game. NGE was trying to shoehorn a WoW dynamic on SWG when the game wasn't remotely like WoW in the first place. Same goes for CU. Both the CU and the NGE were Sony's attempt to cash in on WoW, but it just ended up making everyone leave the game. I can't believe it, but still in this day and age you have these moronic MMO developers trying to make WoW clones in 2018. Thank god this is almost exclusively an MMO issue.

Yeah but.. Legends is not an emulator, it is using stolen source code from Sony Online Entertainment/Daybreak Games. Bad representative for our community. SWGEMU based servers are doing it without breaking the law.

Oh and before someone gets on and says it's abandonware, it's not. The legal status of the game is not even gray... it's still owned and copyrighted. Emulation is the only legal way.

Correct, Legends would probably not be classified as an emulator, which is why I was careful to use the terms emulator and private server (respectively). I included them in the description, because - whether it’s legal or not - all of these servers are an option for players at the moment. I’m leaving it to the discretion of players to decide which servers are worthy of their time. Thank you for your thoughts, though! I’m sure people are grateful to understand the distinction!

fair enough, it's your video, and it's informative... EMU is working on legal JTL emulation right now. When they're ready... players can truly choose, I suppose. Legends is kind of like Voldemort to the community... always going to stir a response from those of us doing this legitimately. All of the expansion content they offer is available on legitimate EMU servers as well.

Dale Pearce I personally prefer the play style of SWGEmu to Legends (nge isn’t my favorite) but my characters on Basilisk are maxed and I lost the motivation to play without space. I will definitely return when it’s available though!

That game is totally outdated and only giving a headache after 10 minutes. Played about 30 min and DELETED. Horrible UI, ugly graphics not suited for 1920x1080 res....NOT FOR NOWADAYS at all. Sentiment, nostalgia - well, ok, but not at the cost of MY EYES' HEALTH. Sony was right- too much reading, too complicated, too boring... It could be an awsome game with a total revamp, new engine, etc..
