Staggering? All they did was give him the same type of gun (which was originally to be Boba Fett's unique personal weapon but they cut that aspect of his character for some strange reason and just gave him the same generic type blasters that everyone else uses). They wear similar armor because that is traditional Mandalorian armor. All Mandalorians also have the same skillset those two have.

People always say that Boba was super lame in the movies and that they added things in the expanded universe to make him actually cool. But this was Boba's first appearance and he was already cool in it. He seems lame in the movies because he never gets to play to his strengths. As we can see in this, he actually uses deception (and animals like that space loch ness monster) to capture his prey, so he's not supposed to be a good fighter.

fidly4 no he was and is supposed to be a good fighter but they were just teasing him until you saw him at full power in rotj. The reason he is the best is that he is a jack of all trades. He is a good marksman, can decieve his enemies and play with their minds time after time. He can also has great armor and a jetpack with all these different types of equipment, perception and all. Thats what we saw from Jango and that is what Boba is. He tricked Obi Wan in the beginning of attack of the clones and kept his calm when Kenobi tracked him in person about a conspiracy and his involvement with the army. Then when Kenobi wanted to fight he gave him one first starting from blasting him from the air and then beating him up in person. Jango was basically the idea of Boba in the prequels.

Clearly this first version of Boba Fett was the inspiration behind The Mandalorian. From the look of his armor which was almost the same as Mando's before he upgraded to Beskar armor, to the tuning fork rifle which became Mando's amban phase-pulse blaster in the series. Even the off-world planet with alien citizens and stormtroopers on patrol was used in The Mandalorian

I actually would've rather this be the holiday special than endure the torturous 2 hours of listening to unfunny skits by Harvey Korman, B Arthur, entirely irreverent music numbers, Carrie Fisher's atrocious british accent, and the fact that 70% of the movie is focused on a bunch of wookies where we are literally forced to guess what they're talking about (since there aren't any subtitles).

I was lucky to have watched the whole special when it aired (I was 12) and although I was a monster SW fan, I just didn't get most of it. This cartoon though, made it all for me. Boba Fett just fascinated me and I wished I could have watched it over and over again. It also turned me on to Nelvana (the animation studio that made it). I'm Canadian so there were a few of them they made in the late 70's and early 80's.

To his mind the Rebel Alliance was a dissident force of chaos and lawlessness, an affront to his core sense of morality; hence why he would never accept Rebel employment.

Honestly if Nelvana cleaned the animation up a bit and the cast was good with continuing to reprise their rolls consistently then this could’ve been a badass Saturday morning cartoon series in the late 70s. Definitely could’ve acted as a great bridge of events between IV and V.
