Male filmakers are calling because they want to make a Star Wars movie while no women apply for the job. Maybe that's because the genre has predominantly male fans? Why are women supposed to be the central thing in scifi? Are they these days making male centric romantic comedies? And if yes, does anyone expect something like this to be a success?
@workingjellyfish Жыл бұрын
It was a strange gatekeeping decision, for sure. If talented filmmakers wanted access to Star Wars, and you were knocking them back because of their sex, is that not (by definition) sexism?
@petrairene Жыл бұрын
@@workingjellyfish It is sexism, if they reject qualified male candidates to give the job to an unqualified female. What also puzzles me, all these "strong female" characters win their conflicts with physical fighting. What is that supposed to advertise for the female viewership they target. Do they want to encourage women to start training in martial arts or enlist in the military? Do they want to encourage women to solve their relationship conflicts with male partners using force? I really question what the message of these movies is supposed to be.

Hey there Working Jellyfish. Just randomly was recommended one of your SW videos recently and have been bingeing them the past say or so. I love your takes and your style of humor. I'm glad to hear someone else have this opinion with SW, specifically the whole Ahsoka being a Luke-replacement for the seemingly up and coming Heir to the Empire rehash. Once I saw how Ahsoka (the series) was focusing so much on her, Sabine, Hera, and Ezra, as well as adding live action Thrawn to the center, and the obvious callout line of the book title, I knew that's what Filoni was planning. I will admit, I did at one point think that Filoni and Favreau could be th saviors of SW under Disney. (Full disclosure, I actually hate Clone Wars, I think Ahsoka as a concept is detrimental to Anakin's character arc, and more but I'll digress.) I surprisingly really liked Rebels, mostly, but have serious issues with it, and despite disliking the very idea of Ahsoka, I will be one of the first to stand up and say that she has one of the best character developments of any New Canon character. But more to the point, I realized that Filoni has... well, to be blunt, he's too obsessed with his own creations; he doesn't want to make Heir to the Empire, he wants to make Heir to the Empire starring HIS characters. I don't want to see that story with other characters, I want to see that story with the characters FROM that story, and to basically retell it with Rebels and Clone Wars characters... it's as you said, insulting. And don't get me wrong, I am happy for Ahsoka fans, I'm happy for Mando and Grogu fans, I'm happy for Rebels fans and Clone Wars fans to get more of characters they love in new stories. But at the same time, I have long since grown sick and tired of being told by various parts of the fandom and pop culture that I'm the one in the wrong, that I'm some sexist SW boomer who only wants OP Luke dancing around nuking AT-AT's with the Force when ALL I want are the stories I love and am passionate about being given life outside the theater of the mind. Now? We won't get the nuanced fact that because Luke and Vader took down the Emperor, we see the consequences of that from the Imperial side through Thrawn, Pelleon, or Mara Jade. We won't get the inspiring story of Mara overcoming psychic and emotional trauma done to her by Palpatine and his Last Command. We won't get to see the beautiful moment of Luke showing Mara his faith and trust in her by giving her his father's old lightsaber. We won't see the developing bond of Leia, Han, and Chewbacca through her pregnancy, the unfair expectations of running the New Republic at her feet, the difficult transition of Han from general and man of action to a political figurehead and becoming a family man. We won't see the atrocities of the Empire against the Noghri, the exploration of the criminal underworld with charismatic and pragmatic Talon Karrde (unless Blade Runner: Andor counts, which imo it doesn't by a long, boring, yawn filled shot). I still love SW, I still care about it. I just have grown very weary and distanced from what they're doing to it. And Filoni is a big reason as to why. Kennedy too, as well as Johnson, of course. It's no singular villain. But alas, I'll end this mini dissertation. Thanks for your time, looking forward to watching the rest of your content and what you bring forward here on out.

This was my first star wars celibration the only thing good was Joe Hogan and the artist alley. I had no information on any of the stuff going on, to be fair I was only able to go one day. But when I tried to go to an information booth they didn't know anything either and sent me to another infomation booth. What I was trying to look for was where the main merch store was located only to find out it closed halfway through the event. Later on a staff member told me they had a line for none ticketed people for the premiers then turns out by another staff member we all had to get out because we needed to win a lottery for the tickets.

Yeah, I had always felt that "The Mandalorian" was intended to be Boba Fett, but for some reason they decided to make him a generic character instead......and then they actually give us Boba Fett, but make 2 episodes of his show an expansion of The Mandalorian, and THEN don't have him involved in the re-taking of Mandalore, when he was the very character who exposed us to Mandalorians in the first place!! 😡
