I loved the media idea behind Shadows of the Empire, (Novel, Video Game, comic, action figures etc) it really got me hyped because I never seen Star Wars before and it got me started down this wonderful path of learning of the Force.

I still have my copy of Shadows of the Empire! When I was a kid I was really scared of that assassin droid boss fight early in the game so I just played the battle of both on repeat lol. Great video and thanks for getting those new units ready and a comprehensive breakdown of their strengths and weakness. Also Don you did a great job painting those riot troopers I would be very proud if those were mine! You did a great job too Joe :)

Was cool seeing the riot troopers. They don’t seem super insane. Sleeper agents seem quite good but are definitely glass cannons which is fair. Was an interesting game.

Shadows of the Empire was the very first Star War game I've ever played and will always have a special place in my heart. That boss fight on the train was crazy for it's time lol. That was a good game! I think both the sleeper cell and riot troopers got to shine in their debut. The sleeper cells are deadly up close and the riots are pretty tanky once they get into melee. I can't wait to see what other combinations you guys use with these new units. Keep up the great work!

Good game, sleeper cells looking fantastic can't wait to try them out. Favorite part from Shadows of the Empire was split between fighting IG-88 and speeding through the streets of Tantooine fighting the swoop bike gang.

Oh man, best terrifying memory I have of Shadows of the Empire is fighting IG-88 in the trash heap. Scared the crap out of me as a kid when you'd round a corner in that arena and it was RIGHT THERE. I had the book and soundtrack to Shadows of the Empire. That CD might still be in a box somewhere in the basement. Great to see the new units. That’s a cheap 14 dice attack, but also easy to whittle down.

With the strength range 2 has, riot troopers really need to close the gap before they are caught in that range band. Maybe a laat transport might be needed to help a unit of riot get into the charge distance.

Oh wow, that's a pretty red Imperial Special Forces. Makes me think of Crimson Empire comics and the royal guards. As soon as you said Shadows of the Empire my childhood got excited. I blame Shadows of the Empire for the Flare-S Swoop being my favorite star wars ground vehicle. Hell I bought swoop riders just because I love swoops. I read astromech as being like tactical and agile and trigger both. I...actually have no idea on the melee thing with Sabine and wounding a death trooper. If you guys find the answer let me know lol. I'm torn on who I was cheering for. On one hand, I always want Rebels to win. On the other hand, you used the Marksman not just once, but twice which made me boo you :p

Thanks for showing off the new units, as well as some of the older units we’ve not seen for a while. You make a lot of good points on the units. For me, it feels like Riot Troopers are a slightly cheaper melee option for Empire. Like if you don’t want to bring Vader or Inquisitors. Though I think they fit well with those units for thematic lists. Paint them as Purge Troopers and run an anti-Jedi theme. Could be fun.

Oh Jyn... I remember when she first came out she was so much more impactful. The range 3 hero gun was pretty new and unique at the time, and the dice pools were still small enough that her charge card was somewhat useful. But that period did not last long, and she has drifted in and out of relevancy ever since. Nice to see that her courage value makes a big impact now. I hope her melee weapon or Rebellious gets a touch-up in the new cards; it's a cool, thematic card but doesn't really hit in a way that's valuable. And always love to see Sabine and Clan Wren, two of my favorite units in the game!

Great discussion at the end about how the new units along with the classics are fitting into the new rules. I agree with the thoughts about the Characters having a tough time with large dice pools getting thrown around. Nice nostalgic mention of Shadows of the Empire 😃

For the sleeper cell. If you really want 14 black dice for cheap, (you do lose the dodge droid) but you can bring the rebel comms tech for 9 points

Star Wars Shadows of the Empire's first two Hoth missions made the game one of the best Single Player N64 games of all time. The game just get's better from there. Question about the Legion game: Don, do you need to use Underworld connections to run a mercenary that isn't Empire Boba Fett? Or can you not have to use Underworld connections because Cad is still a faction based Merc like Boba even though his faction is technically Separatists?

Cad can be played in Empire, Separatist, and Shadow collective. Underworld would be needed if you wanted to run an additional merc as an operative or to assign him orders from The commander. Thanks! -Joe

Great game! I think the sleeper cell units are going to be very common in rebels lists. They don't really have a hammer unit and that gives them one. Also I still have my shadows of the empire game and I plan to make a Junk heap board 😁

From the shadows of the empire comes the riot control squad. I think their major weakness is getting suppressed and unable to move forward - Krennic or Vader to compel them is huge (like those fleets needed). I agree that the marksman on both them and the sleeper cell is a non-starter. The sleeper cell always wants to move and shoot - they basically have mobile quick thinking with the droid.

Need a "Shadows of the Empire" Battleforce that introduces Xizor as a Commander and Guri as operative. I feel like they could do a lot with the "Legends" idea already introduced for the franchise, even if they aren't tournament legal and no physical product released. They could hire some of the community 3d modelers and then do the "license" model of sales and sell STLs on AMG site.

The sleeper cell seems to be awesome, but the riot troopers leave something to be desired in any Republic match-up they will probably get eaten up by the arc troopers. The marksman needs to be reworked potentially. That's just my first impressions of the new units. There's going to be a shadow over the Empire.

In round 1 you picked up an operative token and then went with Clan Wren. Did you just fix it off camera? Great game, Rebel Cell are a great addition to Rebels. Great dice pool. I reckon you got it right giving them two dodge tokens with two moves. The marksman is pointless though. He needs halving in price. Ive never played shadows of the empire.

I never got to play Shadows of the Empire unfortunately 😢 Sleeper Cell looks really good, and you can actually get 14 black dice for cheap since you can add a Rebel Comms Technician for 9pts. I guess technically it's 13pts since you have to take a Comms Upgrade and the cheapest one is 4pts. That might be the way to run them with Up Close and Personal.

Never played Shadows of the Empire unfortunately despite playing a lot of the old school star wars games. Ill have to give it a shot sometime. As a rebel player ill definitely be getting some sleeper cell units they look super fun. That sniper is a hard sell though. Maybe if you got a move with it like Mando or something itd be a little more useful but idk. Great game as always guys!
