Rey's abilities never bothered me. There is no evidence that being self-taught in the Force was not a thing before the Jedi. Also, Rey is significantly less privileged than the two counterparts. She is basically a slave, who had the opposite of Anakin's rescue moment when she was a child. If there are force-sensitive children all across the galaxy (something which is hinted at in the next movie) they could be training themselves (something which is also hinted at in the next movie).

Rey expertly piloted the Falcon despite it requiring two pilots, learned the forced exists, used a mind trick with ease despite being the hardest ability to perform within the same day, and defeated the grandson of the chosen one who possessed 20 years of training, with a sword despite spending her life using a staff. Being force sensitive makes a child different, it doesn't suddenly make them a superhero without training.

@@willfanofmanyii3751 Rey has already flown ships before as she says. The mind trick was just done on her by Ren. And she resisted there already, didn't she? "and defeated the grandson of the chosen one who possessed 20 years of training, with a sword despite spending her life using a staff." She still uses the saber as a staff. The way she's swinging it around is very much imitating Bojutsu, which involves staves. And also, she only wins once she realizes she is force-sensitive, against a wounded guy who just killed his own father, and isn't all there. "Being force sensitive makes a child different, it doesn't suddenly make them a superhero without training." If she was a superhero, Ren wouldn't have been able to capture her at Takodana. There are many criticisms to be had of TFA (I don't particularly like this movie) but none of these are anything more than CinemaSins style nitpicks. The film has much deeper, narrative problems.

No solar system had gone missing...this film is the first time it gets used. How did the Republic not notice? Because senators who were sympathetic to the Empire sent Republic money to the first order. Really? You didnt see how deadly that bowcaster was? Kylo took that blast to the torso. Kylo was nearly mortally wounded. This is said explicity in dialogue in the next movie.

Right, we can do all sorts of crazy things there are monsters and spaceships and light speed, but they want "SOME" of the people in it for "SOME" reason to suddenly follow real life logic whilst everyone else can happily bounce around like pin balls fly through the air do giant leaps and back flips cut through hundreds of enemies read people's minds, and bend people to their will. But only "SOME". It is a bit of an irony that all of the excuses for this behavior are glaring neon signs of their mental and moral thought processes while they think they have logic'd it enough to pretend it something based on some FACT. Since the 70s I have watched these movies and tv shows and they have always had stinkers and always had chosen ones who do whatever the plot demands regardless of if that makes any sense in our reality.

Why what made it different? Since the very first movie decades ago the protagonist is capable of doing whatever the writer and director want them to and cannot do what the director and writer do not want them to do even if they should be able to. It's like that for the many movies and shows and books the protagonist is able to do something because the story needs them to or somehow cannot do something they should totally be able to simply because the moment in the story requires it.

The movie really is a creatively bankrupt rehash of ANH, (consider what new world building or original ideas of its own this movie brought forward) regressing characters and the universe backwards (I guess the winning rebels just let their enemies continue making stormtrooper armor and tie fighters for 20 years after the empire fell lol). Snoke was another JJ Abrams mystery box he had no intention of fleshing out, as was Luke's recovered lightsaber ("somehow Luke's lightsaber returned lol"), Finn started off really interesting but then was quickly sidelined and his stormtrooper history only affected his character for 5 minutes, ANOTHER death star but BIGGER ! Luke doesn't want to be found but leaves a map to his whereabouts lol, you could write a whole book on the things wrong with this, and this was easily the best of the new trilogy smh. People try to excuse the writing for Rey by comparing her to Anakin, forgetting that the only thing Anakin could do before having years of training surrounded by Jedis, was use reflexes to podrace and mild sensory stuff lol. Everything after that was 10+ years later with heavy training from master Jedis, and all without the heavy personality flaws that balanced Anakin out. In this movie, Rey doesn't even know the force exists and thinks the Jedi are a myth and then uses a Jedi mind trick an hour later ffs. Jedi mind tricks are shown used by a middle aged Obiwan, Quigon, and Luke in his third movie, all reflecting amounts of effort or instruction. Rey : it's been an hour, I can do that". Her whole character is a cheap shortcut that feels like fanfiction. She lives alone in a desert but can sail ships and swim, understands droid speak, speaks wookie, flies a customized ship she's never been in better than it's longtime owner Han, then fixes it better than Chewie, outshoots stormtroopers which are now said to have been "trained from birth" after Han shows her how to use a gun 5 minutes ago, then beats a trained lightsaber fighter with another weapon she's never touched before and overpowers his force pull which was shown earlier to be strong enough to stop blasters mid air like it was the matrix. All in her first movie within an hour of finding out the force was real.

Rey is a dyad linked to Ben and vice versa, it’s as simple as that (whether one chooses to accept that or not, and whether one likes that construct or not). As Ben becomes more powerful, and more highly trained, Rey inevitably becomes more aware and more attuned to her force sensitivity, quite apart from her own development.

For me, the movie started off very well, but started falling apart once Han Solo came in. I hate that they reset his character arc he went through in the original trilogy. He went from a selfish smuggler, to a rebel hero, back to a smuggler. I could yap on for ages about the things I don't like, but that's pointless. It's still better than the other two though.

I went with a friend who felt it was just ANH & of course the similarities are obvious, but I just didn't mind. Now for the bad: there are way too many coincidences (just JJ I guess but it is lazy writing); Rey being overpowered (Snoke should have said "You let this little girl disarm you?"); Kylo being an emotional teenager; stupidly OP weapons - you only need to blow up 1 planet at a time! LEEEEEEEEEIIAAAAAAA! (love Carrie Fisher) anyway 😮‍💨 The Force Awakens certainly is a movie that was filmed. The set ups, themes and everything had so much promise! So many little elements could be absolutely exceptional if they'd all been tied together in the right way. The pull to the light, Rey's call to the force, Finn's backstory, Poe's introduction, the OG cast being back all could have been done justice. It's actually kind of hard to rewatch these scenes and see the choices they made in directing these characters. Not that I hate the movie, I still get goosebumps and teary eyed at certain moments but it's just really so dated in its writing style. It's basically all tell (& yell) and then the show is some pew pew and running around. The prequels at least added to the lore while having actual characters that build to the OGs but The Force Awakens is just a series of zany skits that the actors do their best with. There's some very good additions to the OG actors here but the whole thing turned out to be an overproduced imitation of a meaningful blockbuster with a bottomless budget. JJ abrams is good at directing explosions and action... Maybe I'm too harsh 😂 but its just my perspective on it. There are some really, really genuinely cool moments I like and some jokes do work but as a fan I wish they'd done better by the actors. I aways thought after 9 that most of this was an excuse to cast friends as background characters and play around on a Star Wars set for these Directors bc the series is popular and cool while the actual films became after thoughts. However it did lead to a revival of the series and at least some shows and Rogue One(❤️) so at least that's something. it's interesting that following this they changed characters and went out of their way to "combat criticism" from people who said they were fans by giving Finn less to do in 7 & 8 but didn't try change the cheesy elements that people ragged on, or even the flimsy plotting that actual fans did have an issue with... but Finn and even other progressive elements like women existing were the problem for some reason 👀 lol my rant seems like a Kylo Ben temper tantrum 😅 sorry! it's actually just a fun movie lol another great reaction and Igli's insights are great to see from a first time watcher, aways love the deep discussions you all do at the end. I really appreciate that about your channel. Look forward to more reactions and hope you're all having good New Years holidays rn ❤️

@Blake that "bruh" at 25:04. I felt it man everything that is to come was in there. Luke was just confues this random girl showing up with his lightsaber. He had no idea how to ask the obvious question: "Yo girl hi there...ermmm....listen there was a hand there as well...did you find it?? Huh? The HAND!! Did you bring the hand??!!" :) I hate that scene with the laser splitting into smaller beams and killing all the planets. I have a few question. They shot that laser, that would take THOUSANDS of years to get to other starsystems unless their base literally in the same system lol. And why is it splitting like that, light doesnt behave that way. There are so many problems with this movie but I would be willing to look over most of them if they went and hired ( or just look for them in house ) a decent writing team who can write interesting characters and a half-decent story. JJ is not that person. He is doung absolutely outstanding lens-flare effects tho I give him that. Arguably the best thing came out of this movie was Rey's theme. John Williams is just great. Such a shame it could've been a flawed but watchable trilogy. So sad it went the way it did.

try actually watching the movie. Your complaints have lost ALL credibility. "Waa waa beam would take a thousand years to reach" HYPERLIGHT-SPEED WEAPON. Clear description IN DIALOGUE. The beam fired from Starkiller Base travels through hyperspace. That's also how you could see it from sectors away.

I love watching you guys talk StarWars even though I disagree with the Sequel hate. The whole premise of Rey at the beginning of the film she believes Luke is a myth. Once Han explains that the force and the Jedi are real, she begins to believe. When Kylo taps into her head she begins to see things from his mind, which explains why she can do the mind trick. Her defeating Kylo at the end shows that he isn't all there after killing his father (plus Chewie shooting him). Snoke explains this at the beginning of TLJ. I love the reactions! I prefer this (disappointing) trilogy to the (atrocious) prequels, which I haven't watched in many years. The second sequel is absolute garbage but I still think it's a better movie than any prequel. Ewan McGregor was the only thing that I found redemptive about them. Tragic, since I was a huge fan. I saw this movie with my daughter and was happy that she could grow up with a female protagonist and I appreciate Adam Driver. But man, Star Wars has gotten much more wrong than right, overall.

I think people have given too much retrospective credit to the sequels. Palpatine's corruption of Anakin is very well done & it certainly has the best lightsaber fights but to me, even with its terrible dialogue, only ROTS comes close to the OT. While I despise TLJ, it's still a much better film than the infantile Phantom Menace which was such a let down when I saw it on release - 2 days later I saw it again just in case I'd been unfair to it but I hadn't. McGregor concentrates too much on his Guinness impersonation in Episode 1 but improved a lot in the later films.

As you say each to their own, I personally love the sequels and can’t watch the prequels much though have a soft spot for the phantom menace as watched it in the cinema when I was young (the other 2 apart for the last third of Revenge are a chore to watch because the acting and dialogue is so bad). The Last Jedi is probably my favourite after Empire (though I was unsure after first watching it in the cinema), the more I watch it it gets better and better, it’s visually stunning and I love the scenes between Rey and Kylo, Hamill gives his best performance too. I can watch it over and over like Empire.

Anakin was afforded abilities at a young age by the force. Never understood how people think it couldn't be the same for Rey. It does beg the question, would the notoriously toxic Star Wars fans be so vocal if Rey was a male character? I was six when Star Wars came out. I had all the toys. So much love for it. I feel like all the sebsequent trilogies had issues. As far as the story elements of these trilogies, no one cares what you wanted. We got what we got. It just highlights the difference in generations. Us Gen Xers are used to disappointment. So, when it happens, we move on.

I don't remember anybody having a problem with Rey being female & if 10 year old Anakin could suddenly be able to fight powerful Sith or use Force Persuade than you might have point. BTW a lot of people found the pod racing ridiculous not least because what mother would allow it. To reach Rey's level Anakin "the chosen one" spent many years training but other than that the only ability that developed without seemed to be piloting. Not many argue "The Phantom Menace" was a good film with young Anakin annoying & later Hayden Christiansen was seen as quite wooden. BTW the notoriously toxic Star Wars fans was a narrative Disney fully embraced once "The Last Jedi" was not well received - The Force Awakens" was. Although it probably had its origins in the Jar Jar hate which there was no excuse for.

"Anakin was afforded abilities at a young age by the force, never understood why it couldn't be the same for Rey." Maybe it's because the only thing Anakin could do before having YEARS of training surrounded by Jedis, was use reflexes to podrace and mild sensory stuff lol. Everything after that was 10+ years later with heavy training from master Jedis. In this movie, Rey doesn't even know the force exists and thinks the Jedi are a myth and then uses a Jedi mind trick an hour later ffs. Jedi mind tricks were used by a middle aged Obiwan, Quigon, and Luke in his third movie, all reflecting years of effort or instruction. Rey : it's been an hour, cool I can do it too". Her whole character is a cheap shortcut that feels like fanfiction. She lives alone in a desert but can sail ships and swim, understands droid speak, speaks wookie, flies a customized ship she's never been in better than it's longtime owner Han, then fixes it better than Chewie, outshoots stormtroopers which are now said to have been "trained from birth" after Han shows her how to use a gun 5 minutes ago, then beats a trained lightsaber fighter Kylo with another weapon she's never touched before and overpowers his force pull which was shown earlier to be strong enough to stop blasters mid air like it was the matrix. All in her first movie within an hour of finding out the force was real. But nah I'm sure it's just cause she's a woman lol

I couldn't care less if she was a female or male. All they had to do is write a decent plot for these movies and hire a decent character writer team becasue they are clearly incapable of doing it themselves. It would've worked even better with KK's "The Force is Female" agenda if the characters were interesting and layered. Not sure if you have watched any of the animated stuff but Assaj Ventress was a female and she had an amazing character arc. The Expanse? Camina Drummer, Bobby Draper, Chrisjan Avasarala, Naomi Nagata just to mention a few, all females and they were interesting and total badasses, nobody cared about their gender and nobody questioned their character. Battlestar Galactica? Kara Thrace ( Starbuck ), Laura Roslin, Sharon (8) and Caprica 6. Same thing, all badasses. In fact Starbuck was a genderswap from a male in the original show, some people were salty about it but her character was written so well and acted perfectly by Katie Sackhoff that shut everyone up after a few episodes. Game of Thrones had so many great female characters they were coming out of my ears. Nobody cared. Lets ssee movies. Sarah Connor ( Terminator 1984), Ellen Ripley ( Alien 1979 ) , hell Princess Leia in EPIV, Imperator Furiosa, Katniss Everdeen, Hermione Granger, Miranda Priestly, Black Widow, etc... there are so many great female characters in movies but as long as its written well and has a good arc most people dont even think about their gender they just enjoy the story and the development of the character. Rey's story is that she is a girl and she knows everything. They tried to address this in the last movie but it was too little too late. That movie is only good for one thing, laugh at how JJ shits all over TLJ.

@@neutchain7838 Princess Leia does more than her fair share of blasting in OT. She doesn't seem to have innate abilities but is no less the badass for that. Regarding Starbuck. My favourite thing about original BG was the character of Starbuck. He was a lot of fun, even with his seeming death wish, so I was a bit apprehensive of the reboot. Needn't have worried as Katie Sackhoff was superb. Think they let Starbuck & Balthar down a bit in the final series as they had been the 2 most interesting characters, but BG is unbelievably tightly written which is why it won so much praise.
