Yoda prepared Luke for that very moment when he was in the cave. Luke saw that killing Vader would put his own face behind the mask. So in that moment, he glanced at Vader's (severed) robotic hand, then down at his own robotic hand... and he realized where the dark path would inevitably take him.

Keep in mind that the sequels are NOT the story George Lucas wanted to tell. In fact, when Disney bought Star Wars from him, they actually REJECTED his story treatments for the sequel trilogy in favor of letting different directors make up the story of each film as they went along, and it shows. They don't really have much to do with the previous films.

This is still by far my favourite Star Wars movie. I still feel like a little kid when I watch it. Luke showing how strong he has become, Anakin’s arc ending, his redemption, the best space battle in Star Wars, Lando only just escaping the Death Star in time, and finally, seeing anakin’s force ghost. I love it so much. There is a good argument to be made for every Star Wars film being potentially the best movie in the franchise. But this one will always be MY favourite.

That little moment of Vader gesturing for Luke to calm down when the fight ended. As Lucas put it, Anakin was overwhelmed and could no longer keep up his persona as Vader. Just needed to see a loved one in danger, his nightmare in real time, to break Anakin away from Palpatine.

Everyone always assumes that when Leia says she thinks she's always known that she has always known that he was her brother. I take that to mean, instead, that she always felt the close bond that you would feel toward a sibling. Not that she actually knew he was her sibling.

The thing about Vader not feeling Leia is pretty easy. Why would he give notice? He was never specifically looking for her ;) Notice the Emperor could not feel either Luke or Leia coming into Endor. Vader had to tell him that Luke had arrived ;) It´s like, Vader might have sensed Leia´s frequency but he either simply does not remember anymore what her frequency is. Or simply does not care. Because....he is not that interested on her. Imagine trying to remember how each person you encounter smells like :) Unless its someone you really care about, you will not remember :p Even if said person does have a very strong smell, you will forget about it :) Vader might even know that Leia could be a potential force user. He might have sensed it in A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back. But it was not his concern back then. And he might have felt another potential force user hanging around with Luke on the incoming shuttle. He might even make 2+2 and figure out it might be Leia. But again, he does not care about her. Up till the end, he has no special reason to care about her or notice her presence. She is not important to the Empire outside the stolen plans episode. The senate is no more and her "home planet" is also no more. She would be a nobody to the Empire.

As per Lucas' words on what would have come next had he made 7-9. Over a span of 30 years, Luke, Leia and the others would eventually build a New Jedi Order and form the New Republic, but not before facing many obstacles including the former imperial remnant and crime syndicates.

Post RotJ we had two made-for-TV movies with the Ewoks. There were also the Droids and Ewoks cartoons from 85-86. There had also been a Star Wars comic published by Marvel and a serial adventure comic strip syndicated in various newspapers. But for the most part after RotJ it became a dark time for SW fans with no expectation of anything further ever hitting the silver screen. Even the novelizations of the expanded universe didn't really kick into gear until the 90s.

The biggest crime the sequels commit is not reprising the “Luke and Leia” music from their little moment. I will literally never forgive them for that. RotJ is peak Star Wars in every way: creatures, family, and outfit slays*! Luke really came in there wearing an Armani jumpsuit, Gucci belt, single black Louis Vuitton glove, and THE GODDAMNED CHANEL BOOTS. He made Padmé proud. ALSO the Jabba puppet was operated by four guys: one for one arm and the mouth, one for the other arm and the eye blinks, a Small Person in the tail, and a radio servo operator for the breathing and eye focus. @33:44 "Is he gonna be overprotective of his sister now?" that's such a good read. you guys get it. @1:03:42 I also agree that this ending is The Perfect One, but I recommend looking up the Yub Nub version just for the jamz.

Return of the jedi is my favorite star wars movie because of the luke and vader interactions on the second death star ! To me it's the perfect ending because I think the story is really about anakin so when he dies that's the end lol and where left with hope for the future for luke and leia ! I really do think the only way for vader to kill palpatine was how he did it if vader thought about and and used his lightsaber palpatine would have sensed it coming! And I think the only was for anakin to fulfill the prophecy was an act of self sacrifice made out of love .

I remember Lucas talking about his fondness of "the poetry two's" and how he used it. The last scene/shot of the OG trilogy mirrored in the prequels; the end of ep 4 and 1 being the celebration/actor's stage bow, ep 5 and 2 of the Skywalker couple and the two droids arm in arm, it was all good, I just wish he continued it with ep 6 and 3... Ewan/Ben at the end of ep 3 could have been looking off in the distance like Luke, before Owen (like Leia) brings him back to sit by their fireplace. Oh well... Lol, forget for now my memories of seeing the OG when they came out (1977 was a hot summer, like reeally hot, lol. To this day some scenes trigger/give me some pavlovian response and I can instantly smell that rancid butter and tin-like air-conditioning in the air, lol), I remember when Return of the Jedi was about to open, one of my teachers said they were taking the day off on the date of the premiere, and that none of us better call in sick that day, and went on to say "....so help me if I see any of you in line that day..." 😂😂😂

Vader is scared of the Emperor. After his maiming he stood no chance against Palpatine. His suit is the only thing keeping him alive, one blast from Palpatines lightning and that's it. He's done. Luke may have the Force, but his training remains incomplete, minimal even. That's why he often does things like a normal person, and not as a Jedi trained throughout his conscious life would do. As for Leia, the Force in her it is still latent, and therefore Vader does not feel it, as he feels the one in Luke.

In between Empire and RotJ, Lucasfilm lost all of the Imperial rank insignia plates. They replaced them for RotJ, but strangely, they aren’t as good quality as the original ones from Empire or ANH. Also for some reason, they chose to give ALL of them the rank insignia plate of a Commader, (3 red above 3 blue). Doesn’t matter the Imperial officer’s actual rank, they got a commander’s rank insignia plate. Also there is a deleted scene where Vader kills Moff Jerjerrod and almost fights two of the Emperor’s Royal Guards. I’ve seen two still shots of the scene, but haven’t been able to see the clip. It’s when Vader goes to see the Emperor after the Rebels get thru the security in the Imperial shuttle on the way to Endor. Jerjerrod tells Vader that the Emperor has ordered not to be disturbed. 7:57 and Blake, you are absolutely correct, the name of Vader’s SSD is the Executor.

In 1997, before starting PM, they broadcast the OT but with added features i.e., the whomp-rats entering Mos Eisley, the banthas in the Tatooine and other special effects like adding Cloud City, Tatooine, Naboo, Coruscant. I believe Clone Wars is some of the best Star Wars out there. The last 4 episode is outstanding, love everything about it. CW completely changed the prequels for me and mind you I always liked them though I am old enough to have seen and read the OT long before they came out. Anakin's turn is more gradual, the Clones are flashed out ( shoutout to D. Bradley Baker for giving them a personality...excellent work by that man ) to the point that I actually care for them, the way they carefully tie it into the movies without changing anything but adding tons of context is amazing. As I've said it changed the prequels for me I appreciate them a lot more and this is coming from someone who already liked them. I can look past the weird dialogue and strange choices of scenes sometimes but the overarching story is amazing, I loved the politics ( Palpatine's manipulations are great especially goes really well with the Plageuis book ) and watching the Jedi Order destroy itself is great. Not to mention the best soundtrack in the history of cinema and the 10/10 lightsaber choreography by Nick Gillard. The OT was OT they did what they could with the tech available, the prequels just killed it, ther are a lot of behind the scene footage Ewan and Hayden just going at it for months, nothing about that was sped up, and the less we talk about the sequels the better. CW has a lot of fun fights and its cool to see how they got better and better animating it. We must remember that Lucasfilm animation didnt exists until CW so they had to lay the groundwork and work out their way to make the show that was efficient and allowed space for constant improvement. Would be nice to see you guys watching the animated stuff. At this point I think you could watch some episodes of Tales of the Jedi ( its the Prequel ERA so just skip the ones about Ahsoka ).

Fun fact: Death Star II was an improved version of the original battle station. It is larger in diameter, 200 kilometers compared to Death Star I’s 160 km diameter. It has a totally different main hyper matter reactor design, more efficient hyperdrive units, higher yield and faster recharge rate for the super laser, along with a center mounted carrier beam that the feeder beams join with. DS I’s super laser design had eight feeders combined and aimed using a conical magnetic field. This new design uses seven feeders combining with a powerful central carrier beam. The intentional design flaw Galen Erso built into DS I is not a part of DS II, but since DS II was incomplete at the time of the Rebel attack, access to its main reactor was still available through internal construction pathways. Palpatine was overconfident in DS II’s working super laser and deflector shield, and underestimated the Rebellion and the Ewoks. Not even the dark master of the Sith could for see little teddy bears kicking storm troopers’ butts, or that Luke would never turn, or that Anakin still had a soul and would sacrifice himself by saving his son. “Your overconfidence is your weakness.” Luke Skywalker, Jedi Knight. Edit: yes, Vader’s red lightsaber was lost down the shaft when his artificial hand is cut off by Luke. Luke threw his own new green saber at the Emperor’s feet, and later retrieved it after Palpatine’s death, before bringing Anakin to the shuttle to die gazing at Luke’s face, with his own eyes. A father finally sees his son for who and what he is, and despite the evils done, that father respects his son. It’s a very powerful message to all of us who’s alienated from a father, or mother, and wishes for catharsis, healing from the emotional pain. I was never able to make things right between my Dad and I before he died of dementia, and it haunts my reality all the time, the guilt and regret never go away, and taint the soul. The opportunity I missed. I let that man die thinking I hated him, and that’s so far from the truth. I miss him, and wish I could tell him I didn’t hate him. I hope he’s at peace and knows this. I love and miss him so much. Nice reaction!

150 mile diameter battle station. Deflector shields and armoured. TIE fighters and turbo laser batteries to hit any battleship coming near them. At the bottom of one trench, in the northern hemisphere, shielded from energy weapons and protected by laser batteries, there is a 2 meter wide exhaust port. It's WELL defended and it is only an issue if someone shoots a missile EXACTLY down the 2m pipe into the reactor. It's like shooting a battleship with a hand gun and trying to hit an air vent and maybe hit the ship's arsenal. It's NOT a design defect is it? It was basically impossible. Only Luke could do it because he practiced, IN A CANYON on Tattooine and could shoot a womp rat no bigger than 2m. Obi Wan calmed him down and told him to use his instinctive skills.

Vader didn't know about Leia. That's why those no connection between them yet. My man in the middle swings from sounding like he knows his Star Wars lore to being confused by storytelling choices in the actual movies as of he's never seen them. It's bizarre.

yo Igli you can read the relatively short Shadow of the Empire, the story of what takes place between Empire and Return of the Jedi. it’s good fun and fills in tons of gaps with Luke doing hella Jedi training and Leia and the rest trying to get Han back.

From the prequels, Anakin wanted society to be run by an enlightened dictator. As time went on I think he saw the Empire as a complete failure. His military underlings were idiots and Palpatine scared everyone into complying but was not really interested in ruling well. When he heard that Palpatine was killing Vader's son, he found out that all that nonsense about saving Padme was just a trick. The worst part of the first 6 movies for me other than Jar Jar is that the movies dont really tell you what kind of society the rebellion really wants to build post Empire. Then the sequel trilogy messes all that up.

The battle of Endor is…. Hard to watch when you think critically. Every time I watch it I have to shut my brain off. There is no movie or show that has stronger plot armor than this film but I still love it. The story is why this film is so good.

I think it’s meant to be that the Empire, first of all is dumb, and second of all, did not expect natives of the planet. They don’t know how to defend themselves against the Ewoks traps and such. But definitely, this part was a little silly and aimed more for kids lol

I have to disagree with Blake about the first 6 movies being about Anakin. The numbered episodes are supposed to be the Skywalker saga and the saga starts with Anakin's story and continues with his children's stories. And this this the main complaint I have about the final trilogy among many others. I would write more, but I don't know how much Igli knows about the final trilogy.

my honest reaction and reason is hayden shouldnt be the force ghost reason 1: he didn't destroy the sith reason 2 - george lucas reason was that was the last time he was good. Me: No!! The last time he was good was when he saved Luke and destroyed Palpatine and that was Sebastian Shaw. So having it be hayden makes no sense. Last time hayden was Darth Vader/Anakin he was evil.

What do you mean "There's nothing on video until Ep.7"??? Only novels?!? If he wants to know what happened in the aftermath of the Empire in this universe, then Mandalorian takes place 5 years later. The Disney sequels don't happen until at least 20 years later (and they are a total garbage-fest).

Igli's reaction is the reason why I recommend the Machete order to first-time viewers. You have no reason to hate Palpatine without seeing the prequels. You know he's a bad guy and Vader's boss. Vader bows to him, when you figure Vader could kill him anytime he felt like it. In the prequels, you see the manipulation that Palpatine puts on Anakin. When you see the prequels before ROTJ, you get Anakin's background, not Vader's. So when you see him unmasked in ROTJ, you see Anakin again, not Darth Vader for the first time. That's what got you in the feels, bro! I also thought the revelation of the twins in Episode 3 was WAY better than the way they sloppily threw it out there in ROTJ. Great reaction, guys, I enjoyed all of it!
